What’s happening in this movie clip?
Memnon (Steven Brand) and Mathayus (Dwayne Johnson) fight each other. When a soldier is about to throw an arrow at Mathayus, the Sorceress (Kelly Hu) runs to protect him but Mathayus protects her instead and is hit.

What’s the movie about?
Mathayus (Dwayne Johnson) is an Akkadian assassin hired by the free tribes to stop evil king Memnon (Steven Brand) from demolishing their lands. However, King Memnon has the sorceress Cassandra (Kelly Hu) on his side which makes the task more complicated than expected.

Them making Mathayus such a likable hero in this actually made his fate in Mummy Returns kinda sad. Too bad they didn’t have the foresight to bring him back in Mummy 3 cause then he could have a redemption arc.

Apparently, this is a different version of the Scorpion King. The one we see in The Mummy Returns movie was a descendant of Mathayus. Same name, two different people. At least, I think that's the explanation they're going with.

@@Xylarxcode What ? How can one of Mathayus's descendant's be the scorpion king in the storyline and universe of the movie " the mummy return's " ? . And plus his descendant in the storyline at the beginning of the movie "the mummy return's" looks exactly like him too !! Like it makes no sense. How is that possible ? The Mathayus shown in the movie "the scorpion king" is definitely the same exact person who is shown in the storyline during the beginning scene of the movie "the mummy return's".

Pretty rare for a hero to be so outmatched in melee combat by the villain, having to resort to archery, usually a coward's way, to win.

Well Memnon wasn't exactly fighting fair Himself He threw hot ash into Mathayus's face and lit His swords on fire to give Him the upper hand, they both knew they were fighting to the death and when your fighting for your life there is NO SUCH THING as a fair fight

@@MRWIL246 He and Cassandra, (The Sorceress) married. After she died by an infection, Mathayus's empire fell. It's likely that after he became king, the power went to his head and he became a tyrant, the very thing he destroyed before, and became a conqueror, just as Memnon was.

I want believe Mathayus was at first a just king a good one but eventually down the road a good king lose sight of who and where they came from being lost by their blinded of overzealous justification for expansion or by power or ego a hero fallen from grace and became the villain at the end and forever cursed by an evil deed

Memnon's death has always reminded me of a line from the Song Hallelujah "Your faith was strong but you needed proof, you saw her bathing on the roof, Her beauty and the Moonlight overthrew you, she tied you to a kitchen chair, she broke your throne, she cut your Hair, and from your lips she drew the Hallelujah" Cassandra was Memnon's greatest strength, and His greatest weakness, His faith in Her is what ultimately sealed His fate

I never did understand why the villain decides to stand there and try to deflect the arrow. If you have enough time to pick up both of your swords and adopt your 'arrow deflecting' stance you have enough time to move out of Mathayus' line of sight and lie down so he can't shoot you to begin with. It's not like he can chase you from down there. All you have to do is wait for your guards to overrun him and you're set. It's pretty cowardly to do that, ofcourse, but considering the prize is an entire kingdom, I'd say a few seconds of cowardice is worth it.

not sure why an asian woman was casted when it should be a white woman. asian woman is fine, but it's rare for them to be in that region. blacks, browns, white all are fine though.
