I bought a Scott fiberglass 16' Prospector in Halifax the summer of 1987. Paddled the hell out of it until 2007 when I couldn't kneel anymore because of arthritis. I passed it on to my son who used it until a few years back when it became a cottage canoe for short trips around the lake. It was reasonably easy to carry on portages and was a joy to paddle.
The yoke facing the stern is nice when paddling solo backwards from the front seat - it means you do not need to spin the canoe around on either side of a portage...
Call me an idiot but I went down the Madawaska rapids in a Scott Echo 14 (keeled lake canoe) with a kayak paddle and didn't die even once. Wouldn't recommend though.
