To be honest, I don't know what to think about the Wendigo... I mean, the Native Americans have a huge deal of stories about the supernatural and it's very closely nestled into their culture. I don't doubt the supernatural per se, as I have seen way too much to deny that there are things we will never fully understand. From personal examples... I come from Sweden, and we have our fair share of supernatural beings, dwelling in the Swedish forests and around mires in our history and mythology. Some of these beings can, as stories tell, be outright dangerous and aggressive while some simply do not want to be disturbed and rather just don't want you around them. But about the Wendigo, I understand the concept of it and I know powerful spirits are at work there. But I am not sure wether the Wendigo is seen as an aggressive being? The legends come from the Algonquin tribes, and I suppose the word comes from their language. The outmost taboo in their culture is cannibalism, which is seen as the very core of the Wendigo's existence; a human eats the flesh of another and this practically allows a Wendigo spirit to possess this person, turning it into something absolutely horrendous. However: is the Wendigo a real threat to innocent people, if we say it exists, that is something I have never fully understood?
Very real, I am northern ute, from the unitah ouray reservation in Utah. Around here they are called Skinwalkers. I would always hear talk of them when I was younger. But the adults would quite down around the children. They have a documentary or two about them on RU-vid.
Ah yes the ancient demon spirit that soured the Micmac burial ground and cursed it plus reanimated the dead bodies possessing them even Gage to Timmy and Gus (in the film version's sequel) and turning them into demons
I remember i don't tell much about this story but I guess it wouldn't hurt, I came face to face with this thing they call a "Wendigo" they say it looks like a half eaten animal but this thing was 6'7 or 7 foot it smelt like a corpse , like something died and died over again. It stayed back a couple of feet i thought I was a goner it looked at me and I couldn't move a muscle and I wanted to cry so bad but something was telling me "it's ok don't cry let it look at you and it will pass by it's not after you" I blinked because I didn't believe my gut and by hell when I opened my eyes all i saw was a footprint i kept this footprints to remember this Zombiefied creature exists and I carry a gun for now on i never felt the same after that day and I'm glad my gut was right or i would be his supper DON'T GO OUT AT NIGHT it out fears in my eyes and I'm a grown man with an axe in my hand and I couldn't swing at at because I was to scared for now on i carry a gun and an axe i don't care where I'm at
@@chuygarcia3111 Probably is but I myself have actually heard this scream/howl/call before in Ohio out in the country one night I was out walking the back roads to my house. To this DAY I can remember the sound of this and the night as clear as day. I never saw anything but I FELT something weird in the air. Like a presence of some kind. Not good, not bad, just really different as if the energy and world around me was being disturbed. Never again have I heard that sound. I checked it out the day after and years later. Anyways I know it sounds wild, and I personally don't believe in about 95% of the supernatural and paranormal stuff I read about or supposedly have experienced BUT this ONE moment in my life I do believe I encountered something. Was it a Wendigo? No idea, but it was something not normal. Reality is strange. I think there's still things out there we haven't discovered/ doesn't wanna be discovered.
@@madezra64 A couple years ago something wierd terrorized my area - I live in a rural area in Louisiana where there's lots of farms and no town for 20 miles. Whatever it was it was around for about 3 months. People's pets and livestock started to either go missing or would be found dead and half eaten. I had 3 cats go missing, separately about a week apart. Out of the 3 months or so it was in my area, it spent about 2 to 3 weeks of it VERY close to my house. It would make strange noises almost every night during the time it was near. Sometimes it would make coyote sounds, sometimes deer and some nights, it sounded as if a woman was screaming bloody murder as if being skinned alive in the woods behind my house. One night the wife asked me to get our cat in (at the time we had the one of three remaining). Usually rattling the wind chimes on our front porch was enough to get the cat(s) in and if after a few minutes that didn't work, I'd walk around to the back of the house to call to them or tap a flashlight against the metal part of my cigarette lighter, since they would hang out in the woods behind my house. But after doing so on this particular night, I suddenly got the same feeling you described. Like something wasn't right. Like something was terribly wrong. This was confirmed by a sudden blood curdling animalistic scream that sounded like it came from something screaming directly into both my ears. I took that as my queue to get the f*ck back in the house. We never saw our last cat after that. And whatever it was it only stuck around for a few more days/nights and after that the wierd shit just stopped happening and hasn't happened since. We do have Indian reservations and history in my area. But don't ask me if it was a Wendigo or Skinwalker or what. I don't know. Whatever it was I think it's gone and is someone else's problem now.
@@theamericanway4698 Crazy weird shit man. It's hard to believe what you say. Hell I don't even believe the weird moment I experienced that night BUT I'm not unreasonable and closed minded. Whatever it is that we experience but never get to truly see, it's fucking weird and freaks me out. Like I said, I believe about 99.99% of the time you walk out into the darkness anywhere in the world, nothing will see you and nothing will bother you, but I also believe that just maybe, in the weird thing that is existence itself within the last 00.001% chance that maybe there are some things out their that we will never be able to explain because whatever these things are don't want to be ever fulled discovered. Sounds cooky and conspiracy filled but fuck it, somethings in life just can't fucking be explained and I experienced it once and I guess you did too. Hope you never have to again :)
Viper The fennec fox yes and no. Wendigos can mimic. That’s there no one hunting tactic to lure prey to a secluded spot and then strike. Elk noises are most common with coyote or other canine noises too, even some human languages.
They don't sound like that. No clue what the sound is, definitely freaky, but it's not a Wendigo. Liked the video though because it was still an awesome sound.
