THE SCUTTLERS WERE YOUTH GANGS FROM THE VICTORIAN ERA THAT TERRORISED THE CITY STREETS OF MANCHESTER & SALFORD.
THEY SPAWNED FROM THE SLUM AREAS OF THE 2 CITIES AND DECLARED WAR UPON ONE ANOTHER. THEY WASN'T MOTIVATED BY MONEY BUT BY BRAGGING RIGHTS...WHO WAS THE TOUGHEST GANG! THEY CAUSED HAVOC AND CARNAGE AND THE POLICE COULDN'T REALLY CONTROL THEM. EVENTUALLY THERE WAS HOPE. THE OPENING OF LOCAL LADS CLUBS GAVE THESE YOUTHS A SECOND CHANCE. THEY SWAPPED THE STREET GANG FIGHTS FOR SPORTS SUCH AS BOXING & FOOTBALL. THEY PLAYED OTHER RIVAL LADS CLUBS IN THESE SPORTS SO MUCH SO THAT ST. MARKS LADS CLUB FORMED WEST GORTON FC WHO 10 YEARS LASTER CHANGED THERE NAME & THEY BECAME.. Manchester City.
Scuttlers were members of neighbourhood-based youth gangs (known as scuttling gangs) formed in working class areas of Manchester, Salford, and the surrounding townships during the late 19th century. It is possible to draw parallels with the London street gangs of the 1890s, whose behaviour was labelled hooliganism.
Gangs were formed throughout the slums of central Manchester, in the townships of Bradford, Gorton and Openshaw to the east and in Salford, to the west of the city. Gang conflicts erupted in Manchester in the early 1870s and went on sporadically for 30 years, declining in frequency and severity by the late 1890s.
**Some of the photographs that I have used of people in this video are not them. I have used old photographs taken from victorian mugshot crimes to represent certain characters for entertainment purposed only.

Absolutely love the way you dig in and excavate the gold out of Manchester’s hidden yet peeping out from the thin veil of in your face mysteries. Certainly Ant, you are a true guardian of these treasured portals and an amazing explorer that helps preserve on film these Aladdin’s lamps of magical histories. Recorded in the bricks ,roads and even the high tall palaces that reach up into the clouds. The ghosts of yesterdays shadows and secrets walk beside us disguised in the ordinary as the extraordinary Missed by the distracted crowds. The energy and frequencies of melted light waves that open up their time-tunnels for your good inquisitive soul to wander through. Are very much aware that you seek them out so they clear the smoky mirrors of the past to appear and dance for you. The imagination is the magic flying carpet of the eternal creative mind.. This wonders that you are fascinated by are thought forms from experiences and memories crystallised into the tangible expressions called things of life that manifestation likes to conjure up and bind. Stay blessed. Best wishes from Ged Austin aka the urban poet.

Excellent to see that photo of the earliest team to represent what we know today as Manchester City wearing the white Maltese cross on the black shirts. It's also worth noting that amongst all the regeneration of eastlands by our fantastic owners, they have put a college on the site of our training complex, and it's called the Connell college. Excellent documentary, well done kidda. If only more people from the North West, had your views............... We could and should, petition local councilers, etc. to get more boys/girls, clubs opened up, this would give our new youth to look at giving back to their local community, by becoming role models, to the up and coming youth, a little younger than themselves. This could be a chain reaction the young un's wouldn't even know was happening. The money for this would never come from the "Greedy" councils, or anybody in the local only taking £ Government. But only from the local residents with young kids of their own, and i really think this could be done. Along the same lines as before, we all know we have alot of dissafected youth with knife crime, etc. and community spirit all but wiped out. We are now being led by the least amongst us, the least inspiring , least honest, and least noble. Things must be changed one way or another. Thank you for this thought provoking, work of art and research. Much respect #1❤️

Wow thanks so much Lee, I completely agree mate. There has to be more of these youth clubs, they are proven to stamp out the gang life. And I’m all for the locals contributing to the clubs rather than the money driven, greedy councillors, they are ultimately the down fall as to why then eventually close. Thanks so much, it’s always good to hear from people that understand. Thanks once again Lee 👍🏼🙌🏼
