There are no other sea emperors meaning that the babies would have to mate with each other and all future generations would have lots of deformities from the inbreeding.
Detail I loved when I discovered it fuckin' around: I put infectected fish in a tank with healthy fish and saw the infection spread. Then I put a glowy peeper in (before I discovered why they were glowy) and saw them all cured. Was awesome!
The thing is, the sea emperor could easily skewer any leviathan that gets in their way, but they are peaceful creatures, (and the leviathans are smart enough to leave them alone)
@@nyarlathotepthecrawlingcha969 the alpha species, the current apex predator. Or any other species that live deeper past the edge of the abyss. For all we know the large Ghost Leviathans and Void Chalicerates are at the bottom of their food chains in there.
I like the headcanon of the Sea Emperor's roommate creatures being told to shut the fuck up and behave via telepathy. Straight mom behavior so that everyone could live in peace XD
They also talk to each other through a network, so they probably just kept talking, but yes, also because they aren't fully organic and are just sentience from data in a mainly organic shell (for Al-An at least, I don't know about the others)
@@Omniscient_AIi think that network probably shuts down foreign attempts at the telepathy. Or they simply couldn’t hear her call due to their brain structures. Maybe the Emperor got lucky that a more primal species found her.
I always thought of the seemingly throw away line of "The visions are getting worse" from Bart as just delirium taking hold of him from the infection and never as the Sea Emperor talking to him, but now that I've heard it...that makes perfect sense. The revelation has my jaw on the floor.
Bart had so much potential man. It’s a shame what happened to the degasi crew. I hope Marguerite has a role to play in subnautica 3, and I hope Riley comes back as well. Imagine if the two of them met
Something else to consider here. Bart was extremely intelligent and thoughtful young man, surely he would have been willing and able to help the sea emperor like Riley does. However, in his last message it seems like Bart wasn't able to understand the telepathic messages from the sea emperor. They were vexing to him as just "visions." However, the logs say that Bart had neural implants and his education was at least partly a digital upload to his brain. What if those implants were somehow interfering with the sea emperor's telepathy and that's why he wasn't able to interpret the visions?
Id hate to imagine that when they tried to go out and save the planet, attempting to get past the void, they ended up meeting ghost leviathans and losing some, or a worse leviathan had sea emperor for dinner
And just a human and a random superfish stoped the thing Also in below zero we managed to farm it safely making it possible to eradicate khaara from the galaxy
@@escaped_cephalopodDefinitely a well-earned nonstandard Game Over imo. Like you're stranded on an alien planet, dying of an alien disease, any rescue that came and will come gets shot down by the same alien quarantine enforcement that shot you and yours down, and this alien prisoner who's been keeping the planet alive for a millennium asks you to help her help you, and you kill her unborn kids, her one reason to live? Kinda deserved it.
They most likely didn't have enough time on their hands to build more research facilities in 4546B, that's the same reason why they didn't try waiting for the eggs to hatch.
To be fair the fact that the Sea Emperor is quite friendly probably helps. They are probably talking about the fact that hostile Leviathans are too big to effectively contain. Like one Sea Dragon Leviathan heavily damages their research facility from outside, imagine the catastrophe that will happen if it gets inside.
sea emperor is probably one of my favourite characters in fiction fought to cling to life for so long just to ensure that life on the planet would still be around to be saved when someone arrived who could help hatch the eggs any time i reach the hatching cutscene i usually spend way too long hanging around with her just to say goodbye before leaving so she can finally have her well earned rest
She’s my favorite creature in the game and I actually kinda have to say the same to for the best mama ever I mean she’s just one of my if not favorite characters in fiction
There was a bit well played irony after dealing with these hostile creatures in your journey that the biggest creature in the game is actually the only friendly being you meet.
Maybe the architect weren't able to hear the sea emperor due to lacking a physical body, mind or something It is pretty cool that the sea emperor essentially saved the planet's life
Yeah that’s what I was thinking after playing below zero. Since they are made out of both biological and mechanical parts and there minds can be uploaded and put into storage I just thought that it was a more mechanical mind that the sea emperor couldn’t speak with telepathically. That or she wasn’t tuned into the right radio frequency in their heads lol.
When I first watched the sea emperor die I pause and said “you…you ok their sea? Oh dear god is she dead?” The I took a closer look and realised she was dead and I got sad
It is explained why the architects couldn’t hear the sea emperor. In her line “For what they tried to take, I give to you freely” showing she likely simply didn’t tell them because of the enslavement she endured from the architects
My theory is that the Sea Emperor felt resentmet towards the architecs. In some of the dialoges it has with the player it mentions: "I will give you freely what the others tried in vain to take" and "To you, I give the secret willingly", revealing that even with the world ending, it saw the architects as "unworthy" beings, or at least not deserving to know how the enzymes worked. Why? Let's remember that the Sea Emperor is pretty inteligent, to the point of being phylosophical and undersating how it's chamber worked, being aware that it conected to the outside sea through pipes and that the big thing in the middle was a portal. It even knew the specifics on how to make the enzymes to fully imitate the perfect breeding conditions for it's eggs. It had both intelligence, counciousness and a sense of morality. It's possible that it tried to communicate with the architects through it's psychic powers, but the architets weren't able to get the message. Chances are the Sea Emperor TRIED to communicate with the through other ways but the architets treated it like a regular animal that just happened to be useful, and far from trying to get it's help they simply use it like a resource and nothing else. Having no regard for it's life, it's eggs, or any other life. The Sea Emperor probably took notice and decided to not cooperate with them, and instead trying to find it's own way to solve the problem while being confined. That's probably how it realized it could send peepers with small portions of the enzyme. Then we came to the planet and we could actually understood it, and the game unfolded from there
*I believe that she's not the only one, there's a bunch of Sea Emperors around.* My theory it's that they live very deep, and only come to surface to lay eggs, where she got captured. Probably there's a bunch more, buuuut they live where the Ghost Leviathans live, so made sense the Architects never went to find another one...
and at minimum with the cut early content from below zero the baby sea emperors have all grown up healthy and happy meaning. the potential for the species to return exponitially is now possible even if wild sea emperors are near extinct.
Now I personally don’t realllllly believe this due to kharrah this most likely is not true remember that if they were did exist kharrah would be gone and the planet saved but since there is still kharrah she is the last one left and saying that it’s just that part look at below zero the frozen levithan got kharrah so yes she is the last one but she did hatch her eggs and there will be more when they reproduce
14:19 ITs explained in sub zero that the architects are already a communal organism, AL-AN specifies about "Imagine a thousand strings, each playing its own range of notes, none louder than the others. Each one builds harmony-a continuous thrum in the background of existence. I am now a lone string in search of familiar harmonies". . i think this wither drowned out the sea empress's telepathy or made them incompatible.
I think the main reason the architects were unable to hear the Sea Emperor's telepathy is because she didn't want them to know how to hatch her eggs. Since she is clearly not only sentient but also very clever she likely found out what they had done to her babies and didn't want them to harm any more of them so she waited until a safe person (Riley) showed up
Are you gonna do creature analysis videos on every creature in subnautica? It’d be really cool if you did, I’ve been obsessing over the crabsquids, mesmers, and BoneSharks (A deep dive into the Peeper space program would also be cool, as today I learned they make great projectiles)
Sea Emperors look like the Sea Dragons big cousins, I mean “Sea Emperor” “Sea Dragon” even the names are similar, with both of them having 7 outer tentacles and one larger middle tentacle. I’ll stop there since if I didn’t I would go forever and also I don’t think it should be to hard to see any similarities with a good look at both of them. Only other thing that I want to say, is that I find it absolutely amazing that Peepers saved the entire planet of 4546B😂
The Architects had a sort of mostly cybernetically augmented physical form that they effectively downloaded into. They couldn't understand the telepathic communications because they were effectively a collective digital consciousness for the most part, and their biological neurology wasn't sufficient for the Sea Emperor to make contact. It should also be worth noting that the Architects didn't "die" as they were a sort of hive mind of cybernetically augmented beings with most of their mind uplaoded to a sort of neural engramatic storage. Though it is unknown if the storage in these areas survived, but a note hints that they were effectively uploaded to whatever network they were using. The telepathy aspect is also hinted by other organisms in Subnautica, such as the Mesmer, which directly controls your actions through a series of lights it releases. It's likely that this emerged several times on the planet but it's just we only see two examples of organisms that can influence neuronal firing in another. The Sea Emperor's are ridiculously long lived, and given their ability to communicate (which might be the furthest form of an underwater method of communication like what we see in Cetaceans taking the next step by directly influencing the brain, though you probably couldn't do this across an entire planet if it depended on mirror neurons lol) were probably as intelligent as human's, if not moreso, but did not need technology due to their size (perhaps instead cultivating the ecosystem by gaining understanding how it works over a very long life).
When Kharaa first was accidently leaked into the world of 4546B, you'd think the existing population of sea emperors alive then would have produced enough enzyme 42 to have curbed the bacteria's devastation. Especially when you consider it only took 5 juveniles under two years to eliminate Kharaa from the entire planet (except what was found in the frozen leviathan in Below Zero.) Also, I'm wondering if in future games we learn that Kharaa isn't just a naturally discovered bacteria, but that it was an intentional biological weapon created by a rogue faction of the Architects or by one of their interstellar rivals. It could even have been designed as a type of panspermia since it rewrites DNA. Maybe it was created to seed planets and rewrite existing life to mirror the form of its originators as a way to propagate their species. Only it didn't always do that as intended or it mutated to instead act as a deadly pathogen. Since the PDA hints that the Cuddlefish may not be indigenous to the planet, maybe it's a surviving member of that other sentient, well meaning species who accidently unleashed Kharaa on the galaxy while attempting to colonize it.
I still like to hold onto the hope a few groups of Sea Emperors with the Enzyme 42 producing mutation did manage to survive the outbreak. They probably had to be more spread than before, but perhaps there might still have been enough microscopic lifeforms to feed a few small groups.
The sea emperors could indeed give off a low telepathic signal, that could be how they live in such deep waters such as the void, especially the juveniles, that could stop leviathans like the ghost leviathans from attacking them.
The architects probably werent able to hear the emperors call because they are half machines and do not have brains in a way needed for the telepathy as we see the architect body in subnautica below zero
Does that mean from what I was just listening to that is the karaa goes dormant doesn’t that mean that I mean character once going back to earth could potentially gain the cooler again meaning that he could infect his entire planet?
I was once playing subnautica and i got ine of those telephaty „cutscenes“ and it tripped me out extremely because i tought it was that ine creature that tricks you into going towards it
You'd think that the architects would be able to analyze the sea emperor DNA and find the gene for enzyme 42, then insert that gene into a bacterial plasmid for mass reproduction like what we've done with insulin. Aren't the architects supposed to be a super technologically advanced race? Also, I find it odd that a single bacteria species is so deadly across so many different species from so many different planets. Oh well. The Subnautica story is cool enough that I won't begrudge such plot holes. And who knows, maybe alien biology is just that different from Earth biology (although that's such a copout).
Well there might some problems with you see the khara isn't any old bacteria in fact it has some extremely terrifyingly fasy mutation rate Like a virus and along with that we've already seen bacteria evolve to be completely immune to most antibiotics maybe the architects did discover a cure for one variant but there were thousands more per day along with that I have a sneaking suspicion that enzyme 42 is an enzyme designed to kill all bacteria as such it made it capable of killing khara even with it's mutation rate even more evidence to back this up is in the brain eating ameoba which never evolved to fight against the immune system but it can completely ignore most modern treatment methods and kill you suoer fast
i thought i understood this game's lore but this video made me truly understand the lore and made me wanna play it again 😅 love your videos man keep it up💪
I think that the reason why the architects couldn't hear the emperor's attempts at telepathic communications was most likely due to the component of the brain that the sea emperor interacts with in order to communicate was to heavily altered with technological augmentation and thus the sea emperor's voice fell on Deff ears.
How the Emperor Juveniles could be more fun: - Obviously, they make sounds 🔊 and depending on what they feel. - Can haul large amounts of cargo!📦 - Help find minerals by blowing 🌬️ at the ground to reveal them.💎 - Each juvenile is unique! e.g the one in the most friendliest environment has barnacles and a reef 🪸 on the back like the reefback leviathan while another in the most hostile environment has some gnarly battle ⚔️ damage around their body from fending off off attackers and some missing tentacles and eyes that would soon regenerate. - They can communicate 🗣️ telepathically 🔮 but not as good as the ancient sea empress since they're younger. - 🐕Petting animations!🐈 Cuz I think that's cute!❤ - You can hitch a ride 🏇 by grabbing either of the 4 head structures. 3:33 - Or you can build some sci-fi advanced saddle to control their movement. - You can hide 🥷 in their mouth in case a predator 🦈 is stupid enough to approach you despite being around a massive creature. - You can play🤽 with them to make them happy and put a collar🔔 with their name on. - Protects you from other aggressive leviathans like blocking their view to you. - Sleeping animations. - Their body armor 🛡️ gives them massive defense but their eyes are a weakness - Enzyme 42 can be yummy 😋 but I'm not an expert 🤔 - Last but not least, you can create some chainsaw⛓️ 🪚 tusks 🦣 that are worn on their heads if you want them to do more damage! What else could your think of to make them more fun?
Most of these is pet stuff which doesnt fit the emperor imo, but making sounds should be a given, and getting a ride holding onto their head, and finding minerals with them sound like genuinely fun activities that also make sense in the gameworld.
I don’t know if it’s just for being part of the sequel or not, I assume it is since you use Alan’s design for the Precursors, but just in case it’s implied the reason the Sea Emperor wasn’t heard by any of the Precursors is because they work like a hive mind with every thought and voice echoing in their head, one extra voice would be unnoticeable especially with a population as big as theirs.
I always name and color my vehicles after the creatures in the game, and the Neptune Rocket, the one that saves my life and brings me home, is always called Emperor. ❤
if i remember correctly the reason the sea emperor survived for so long is out of sheer fucking will to protect her young and too try and save the planet
So we've seen the fiercest, the largest, loudest and the scariest, how long until you discuss the creatures who are the opposite in some regards, smaller, friendlier and or harmless?
I have a theory is probably because in Subnautica Below Zero that architects can be alive since they can detach the body so it kind of looks like there are a cyborg
the species could have been truly grand allies of humanity consiering its sole survivor was of such high moral caliber only wanting to help its young and feeling zero ill will towards its own inprisoners.
mabey the arcitects could hear the sea emperor but the sea emperor never gave them the recipe in the first place keep in mind the sea emperor never gives you the recipe until you activate the teleporter.
The reason the sea emperor says it couldn't produce the enzyme is because she was forced to, she complained the architects didn't respect the natural flow of its production and therefore couldn't get it. She also says the architects didn't listen to her, likely because they were desperate.
I think the reason that the other creatures in the tank don’t attack is because the tank has plentiful food supply’s for the predators, and because the Sea Emperor has some physic effect on them.
