Here at Uncle Bills Camping we strive to make videos how we want about what we want. In no way are we obligated or willing to offer assistance to someone who goes out of their way to be rude. If you need further assistance fix your attitude, ask nicely or take yourself over to another channel that will put up with that mess. Bless your heart and you have a great day😀

Just twist the bottom. The battery compartment is located beneath the green line that goes around. There are other videos on RU-vid that shows you how. Good luck

We discovered these lanterns a few years ago when out power company decided to shut down the electricity whenever it got a little warm and windy. These lanterns are just about perfect for every kind of use, from home safety to camping, to sitting out on the lawn in the evenings. Thanks for the great videos!

I had to put all my brand name bias aside and not listen to all the hype from people who buy the ridiculous overpriced ultra bright lights and just make a list of what I wanted. Now I have about 8 of these things😂

I’m in Scouting and I’ve had one of these lanterns for over a year. It has served me well on many camp outs and can even light up an entire camp site by itself! I got the version that takes three D batteries and I use rechargeable D batteries in it, so I don’t have to throw them away.

You said you were looking for and may have found the perfect lantern. May I suggest having a look at the SOFRIN BLF LT1. This video is 2yrs old and maybe you have already seen it. I think you will be very surprised about its construction material, battery life, white/soft light capabilities being step and variable, 4-186650 batteries.
@unclebillscamping

I have looked into them in the past and while it’s a fine lantern the cost is a bit much for the uninitiated. It would probably be the next logical step up if someone wanted to upgrade.

Loving your review videos, thanks for the work! One suggestion, if I may, would be that you look more directly into the camera. Otherwise there's that funny "he's avoiding eye contact" feeling 😄

That looks great but my question is does it have any digital trickery that comes in a lot of modern products? A couple years ago I purchased one of the best selling lanterns on Amazon the Rayovac Sportsman 305 lantern. They've been available for decades and people really like them. The issue is it's supposed to be 305 lumens on high for 70 hours but the light only gives 10 minutes at that level and then kicks down to low mode even using fresh d cells! Its actually common for a lot of flashlights and lanterns to do this so they get a lot of hours listed in the specs that's not really true. The other issue is my Rayovac has noticeable PWM flickering in the light. When I walk around or turn my head quickly its noticeable to the eye. I think for any lantern it needs to operate bright for a long time.
@unclebillscamping
@unclebillscamping Год назад
I have never noticed flickering on this light. As far as dimming over time this light will do the same but after it’s stated run times.

Although I have never heard of them having a defective unit. It sounds like you may have one. The battery installation is simple as well as the operation so I’m sure you have double checked all of those things. It’s either bad batteries or a bad lantern. I would send it back for a replacement.

Great video. My two cents: a) Replicable batteries are better. Once you have this for say, 10 years, what condition will the internal rechargeable battery be in?? When they deteriorate their 'full charge' is a fraction of what it once was. At least with replaceable you can put in a fresh set and you have full power/long life.. b) Why, WHY do they make items with odd numbered batteries?!? It's "ok" for AAA or AA since they are very cheap and the batteries come in large packs. But why have 3 D sized batteries when you have to by 4 of them. What do you do with the fourth one?
@unclebillscamping
@unclebillscamping Год назад
I agree. For starters I am not the most responsible person when it comes to properly maintaining rechargeable devices especially those that I store although I wouldn’t have an issue with replaceable rechargeable batteries. I also wonder why they only utilized 3 batteries vs 4 on this lantern. I still think it’s a great lantern but there is always room for improvement.

Strobe light settings are annoying. Warm temperature lighting attracts mosquitoes. Diffusion is also known as "how to waste as much battery power as possible with a light". If it's not rechargeable with internal 18650 batteries (or better) it's junk. Primary features that I'd suggest are Price, moisture resistance, and rechargeable lithium battery chemistry (or better).

One specific thing that ruins all the advantages is PWM! In dimming modes. This annoying manufacturer's habit just pisses me off, it was ok 15 years ago, ok 7-8 years ago, but now, do they kidding us? PWM is visible on any camera and can be seen by some people, those glimmering light on the video. That means they use a cheap driver, they save just a few bucks and do still make crappy pwm flashlights. In my country there is the same lantern under a local brand, but without pwm in all modes, but with built in lithium battery and no dual fuel support (lithium and alkaline), no glass dome over leds when you put out the outer plastic flood dome... Just another chinese factory or another order, china can make everything you order them. But pwm is my number 1 point in buying a flashlight or common home bulb, if I see this thing - I would not buy it and support a lazy-crazy manufacturer. It must be free dimming from very low to high, without any pwm, good CRI and color temp or a separate switch between warm\cold temp - thats what a quality lantern must be in 2020+ year! Thanks for the video, anyway was nice to see another version of this model on the foreign market.

Sofirn BLF LT1 lantern is hard to beat. 4 18650 batteries, runtime seems to last forever. Charges in a few hours, and can be charged using solar or a battery bank. Only downside depends on usage, not the best for hiking as it is heavy.
