Only Allah (God) is REAL (ie : ABSOLUTE), everything else is a Creation of HIS. The part of you that is closest to real is your Soul (ie : YOU). For we are not earthly beings having a spiritual experience here and there, we are in fact spiritual beings having an earthly experience. When you die, the set of perceptions broadcasted to your soul (by Allah) will change, your Soul will not go into absolute non-existence. You guessed right, you are already immortal. The quality of the new perceptions broadcasted to your soul will depend on your standing with the One Who Made you in the first place. You guessed right once again, the ones chasing wealth, power, social recognition, beauty...etc are just chasing illusions (ie : temporary perceptions pertaining to this worldly experience) at the expense of desiring and preparing themselves for the everlasting experience that starts after death (never ending, whether good or bad). The Quran reminds those willing to listen, that the life of Paradise is the Real life : Quran [29:64] : "This worldly life is no more than vanity and play, while the abode of the Hereafter is the REAL LIFE, if they only knew."
