Mooie video. Twee weken geleden heb ik vermoedelijk twee jonge groene spechten gespot nabij park Schothorst. De roep heb ik ook vaker gehoord als ik langs de rand van het bos van Park Schothorst wandel.

Thank you so much for posting this. I have a Green Woodpecker that visits my garden now and then. We have Greater Spotted that feed on our trees all the time. One year the male Greater Spotted hacked out a nest from one of our Mulberry trees, but the starlings mobbed him and they never laid eggs there. At 3 mins 5 secs, breed - (of animals) mate and then produce offspring: The past tense of breed is bred. (The third-person singular simple present indicative form of breed is breeds. The present participle of breed is breeding. The past participle of breed is bred).
Hi Christopher, thanks for your reaction. What a pity that the great spotted woodpeckers were chased away. Here in the Netherlands, the great spotted ones are everywhere, while the green ones are a bit more scarse and definetely more shy. And of course you're absolutely right about the subtitle. I am amazed I made the mistake, and that no one ever commented on it in the past 10 years. I'm afraid I can't correct it anymore... It's here for eternity 🙂
heel bijzonder,ben de groene specht gaan zoeken omdat ik hem in Den Haag gezien heb een paar jaar geleden,toen had ik geen idee wat voor vogel het was,blijkbaar is het zeldzaam er 1 te zien.
Hoi Linda, het ligt er aan waar je zit. iIn parkachtige bossen zijn ze redelijk algemeen, aan de kust wat minder. Horen is makkelijker dan zien, want ze houden zich graag verborgen.
I've been photographing Green Woodpeckers for ages and know how elusive they are , this is incredible footage , well done it must have taken incredible patience .

Wow, that is an outstanding story in video footage and the snippets of info that explains things. Your time and dedication to capture this over several weeks is commendable. I have been covering an area with at least one Green Woodpecker, but I suspect a pair with one unseen and the other almost always unseen. I'll be very vigilant and hope to be in the right place at the right time. ◕‿◕
Hi Jane,The green woodpeckers are quite shy indeed. Black woodpeckers or the great spotted are a lot easier. The British green woodpeckers do show themselves more than the Dutch, but as far as I have seen always from great distances. Good luck - in the Netherlands this is the right time for the woodpeckers!
@@HenkEGroenewoud Yes I can see the Great Spotted Woodpeckers in almost any park or woodland. I still search for a good Green Woodpecker to film though. ◕‿◕
Two years ago I started to meet them at my work. A cemetery at the outskirts of small town Boskovice. They nested in old and very high poplar for that year. Unfortunately after one wild windstorm, we've found a kid dead under the tree. Seemed healthy and ready to fly, still spotted but overly developed... They don't nest there anymore, but still feed there, I usually see destroyed wasp nests with insects madly flying around and Greeny's complaining agitated sing near around. What a wonderful bird.
beautiful. ive only wanted to get a single photo of one, ive heard and seen them at distance. the yaffle always turns my head. alas the lens is too slow to follow! this looks like the same habitat as where "mine" are many thanks for your post
I'm afraid not. The green woodpecker lives on the Eurasian continent, with a few siblings in Africa. But the States have other beautiful woodpeckers, such as the red-bellied woodpecker and the pileated woodpecker!
Ze hebben dus een lat-boom relatie! haha. Ik zie regelmatig een groene specht op de begraafplaats in Roden, DR. Ik heb gisteren de zwarte specht gehoord, in het bos bij ons dorp, tegen Veenhuizen aanliggend. Het geluid vast kunnen leggen en toen zag ik hem ook nog vliegen. Werkelijk een zwarte specht. zo mooi! En gelukkig ging het aan een boom hangen, wel op afstand, maar het zag mij niet dus ik kon toch een paar foto's maken, 42 x ingezoomd. Maar omdat het al tegen 5 uur was smiddags, was het al te donker om scherpe foto's te maken, MAAR......ik heb hem op de kiek geregen. Mijn dag was weer goed! (Bos in Een, Drenthe.
Ja, ik snap dar je blij bent met die zwarte specht. Prachtige vogels, en als ze overvliegen hoor je de vleugels 'woeshen'. En dan die roep! Geeft het 'dit-is-toch-wel-echt-prachtige-natuur' gevoel
Gisterenavond, toen ik de kippetjes om 21.30u op stok zette, m'n eerste groene specht gespot, na 45 jaar, in de tuin bij de buren. We wonen in West-Vlaanderen (Bredene, België)), vlakbij de duinen (zo'n 150 van het strand). Ik durfde me niet te bewegen toen ik hem zag, maar een kleine voetbeweging maakte hem alert op me en enkele seconden later vloog ie weg. Vond ik wel jammer, ik had hem best wel ruime tijd wil bewonderen. Hopelijk komt ie nog eens terug en kan ik hem weer bewonderen, maar deze keer wat langer en met wat geluk m'n camera in de aanslag. LOL Prachtige vogel!!
