All these new heat pumps and tech is great but at the end of the day the price of this stuff is nuts and keep going up in price like alot of people just can't afford these units

that Vaillant DHW heat pump is fascinating. I've seen ones with heat pumps but I think they needed air feed? taking heating loop is very smart. How would it work if your heating is off though - guess you'd need your CH pumps working even in warm weather and accepting ambient water temps. Could be super convenient for putting tanks in houses with limited space now so many moved to combi..

The 3-in-1 in one solution from Valiant is interesting. Hopefully it goes mainstream when we move next in a decade or so.

Loving the new technology and that you went to Germany and shared your experience... I'd like to know if you could also share your knowledge about Ground Source Heat Pumps? I recognise that the market is a lot more niche due to the cost and availability of specialists regarding GSHPs but would be nice to get some general knowledge/opinion from people in the industry. 😄

Was there anything relating to water-based airconditioning. You touched on in at the Vaillant booth, with the cooling through underfloor heating/cooling. But here in Holland there's a importer of Italian made airconditioning that uses water to cool te condenser. The heat from the building is transferred to the water and stored in a buffer. To keep this water cold one could just dump it or use it in the washing machine or even, through clever piping, route it to the shw line or shw-store. I've been looking for information on this subject. The device used for this is the Innova H2O.

Our house is old enough that it wasn't designed for a hot water cylinder. Other houses have taken them out for a loo and new builds just have combis. Fitting a cylinder is a challenge

Hi. Can I throw a curve ball into the renewable debate please? There are now a lot of high density ceramic storage blocks which store solar electricity or from the mains, releasing the heat to heat CH and HW. There are also chemical storage units. (Caldera are a special case for industrial users) Are they cost effective? Disappointing that they are Still subject to VAT as nor deemed to be “green”.

Did you ever make that video about infrared heating panels? I'm in a victorian semi-detached house with no central heating, so this past winter has been painful to say the least, just wondering if they are worth a go as they are so much cheaper than installing a central heating system!

Good to see new tech. Wondering how the efficiency ratings compare to the newer mini split heat pumps that have variable speed dc motors (power w ac through an inverter controller), and can do both heating and cooling 🤔

Am currently building a 6000 sq.ft. House and need to figure out how to heat and cool it… the area will be spread over three floors and there will be UFH on all floors… what sort of size heat pump would be needed and could it do ‘some’ cooling too?

What does heat geek think about the shootout on next gen heat pumps refrigerant types? Did the ISH change your opinion on R410a, R454b, R32, R290. Specifically for cold climate zones (such at -25'C).

When I lived in the UK over 60 years ago most houses used coal, wood or gas. But no way did we try to heat the whole house. Unless of course you were quite rich. Bedrooms were left unheated. On visiting the UK in 2018, my cousin was a gas engineer every home I visited was heated with gas. The whole houses were nice and warm and heated with Hydronic systems. I then thought how on earth do these people afford to install and heat all of their homes? Recently I saw a Heat Geek video of large home being heated by underfloor hydronic system using an air to water heat pump. The cost was enormous around 10,000 pounds. That would translate here in Australia where I live now to about $20,000 AUS. My first issue is why try to heat the whole house ? Second why use water as a source of heat? Water has a very high specific heat, you have to pump in enormous amounts of heat to raise its temperature by only a small amount. OK I can understand having an air to water heat pump for your hot water but having a large house with hydronic system is complicated and expensive. At my place which is a small home about 100 square meters no insulation. I installed an air to air Mini split in my lounge for about $3000 AUS. By the way I did this myself and that $3000 includes the HVAC tools. At the moment it is 6 deg C outside and the lounge is 26 deg C the mini split is drawing power at the rate of 1Kw, I am not sure what the COP would be, but I sure am saving quite a bit of money on my power bill. Why don't more people in the UK use Air to Air mini splits you can get units that will do say two rooms and of course not only do they heat they cool as well. By the way some parts of Australia like the Blue Mountains get down to minus 15 deg C and the air to air still work quite well.

The thing manufacturers are missing, and that Viessmann thing is pretty cool, and I get what they're trying to do - batteries and inverters used to have this problem but they're learning now - IP66/7 and insulate and let me attach say the kit at 9:50 to my outside wall and I'll be a very happy boy - because that still doesn't really solve the actual problem, it just looks tidier, but you still have the space problem - the heat pump is out there, why can't a big tank of water go with it? One day, one day.. In fact why isn't there a solution where I can get a heat pump, a tank for hot water, all the pumps I'll need, batteries and an inverter, all in one unit, attached to my outside wall - the whole deal connects to my house's electrics and piping in one place, you could even harvest heat energy from your batteries and inverter; granted not much but.. It's not even as if you have to invent any new technology, you just have to build a cabinet system and fit it all in, could be delivered as one complete unit, factory built or at least modular, making installs easier but also factory tested too.

Are hybrid gas/HP any good?

This stuff is great but, counterintuitively, is delaying my move to a heat pump as it makes me think that delaying my transition by a few years will mean that I'll get a better solution. Installing a heat pump is a large cost and is something that will be in the house for many years so I want it to be the right one and not result in years of buyer's remorse. (For context, I live in a 2016 build so it's an efficient and well insulated home which is suitable for a heat pump.)

Can’t really understand what I heard on the Vaillant. Is it an heat pump and storage tank in one? In other words, no need for an ASHP outside? If so count me in! I’ve a 200l tank in the garage with a lot of overhead and side room to fit this and if it can be linked to my PV and Battery … winner!!

He obviously had no idea how to install them!

Putting it in an airing cupboard, sorry wall/airing cupboard is genius. This technology is moving so fast I feel now is not the time to invest as an end user. As an investment tho get yourself in their!

UK Viessman back up & service is very poor and has been for many many years I proudly have an email from Viessman MD asking me to not install there products 😂 We install 150+ WB boilers & 90+ Electric Heating Boilers We show the letter to customers who want Viessman

Never knew Intergas is Dutch (the accent is always easy to recognise lol), the one thing i'm a bit surpised by is most brands seems to have sales people running around on ISH but with the easiest technical question you could see they started doubting themselfs..

The CTO of Viessmann UK is a clear representation of why the brand has such terrible customer service and support.

When I have a relatively smaller, quieter, and much powerful gas boiler, with relatively smaller size radiators, and relatively cheaper energy bill What is the benefit from heatpump? Except this is a relatively “new” technology

Heating has to be...Simple, cheap, reliable. That's it. And for that reason, 95% of the 'heating' market (heat pumps, solar, wind, infrared) is a joke. It reminds me of that mattress company which started up - and existed as a company, rather than selling a viable product. They were far more concerned about 'being' rather than providing a product.
