The Deku child who likely had to endure the magic that stripped him of his soul, and the fear that no one would ever discover his body or what had happened to him? Darmani, who died trying to save his people from Ghot’s unyielding cold, with the knowledge that, upon dying, his people and his child/nephew would likely freeze and die? Mikau, who died, failing to save the unborn children of his lover and bandmate from delusional pirates who believed that they would lead to treasure? No idea what happened to the Giant Mask’s spirit or what Majora did to the Fierce Deity, but I’d rather have my body painfully rearranged into any of those forms than deal with the potent, heavy misery inside.
It’s cuz he’s living through all of the memories of the soul inside the mask but you right about the sorrow too, I always loved that element of the game.
@@xandresrodriguez4948he gets the entity mask from inside the moon meaning something different for sure. I think I saw a video explaining it but I don’t understand enough to explain myself and I also don’t remember the vid
my thought was that link doesnt scream, but the masks themselves do. They are effectively the souls of the dead. the masks dont scream when being taken off that connection broke. Link doesn't scream himself
Wait I read that backwards and forwards( not literally) I'm confused. If so then it does not Apply I asked my friend wit A doctorate in such noise he says what is said is not applicable
Jk it totally link not just feeling it Physically ( if its that it's the appearance/feel/change in creature race class of organism type of makeup structure. Imagine what his deku transformation would feel like from breathing and feeling things to no breath heartbeat or feeling in your body. Like grabbing the remote and changing the channel would feel so different idk in a humanoid tree body
He literally can't express it because he doesn't speak so the creators have to get creative when conveying the character's emotions. Which can be hard to do with video games in general.
The crackling sound always sounded like his bones shifting and cracking to fit the new forms. I honestly don't know which is worse. One sounds physically horrific and grotesque, but experiencing ALL of someone's pain and suffering all in an instant sounds about like the mental or emotional equivalent to breaking all your bones. 😅
Majora's mask link is probably the one of the most traumatized kid in Nitendo and possibly gaming history, he was bullied because he didn't have a fairy, he was sent to save hyrule and probably the entire world at around 10, he experienced his friends forget about him, he's seen the traumatic memories of multiple people, saved the world again, and so on...
Literally what you said. Didn't get to experience childhood. Got turned into an adult while mentally being a child still. Had to face horrific monsters as a child I.E. Dead Hand. Saved the world just for everyone to forget his good deed. Has ptsd while being now a child again. The only friend who knew what he was going through left him. He then gets transported to the world of MM. Gets put in a body he isn't familiar with yet again. Then has to experience everyone forgetting his good deeds yet again bc of the time being reset every 3 days. He then later gives Link the song of healing in TP bc he understands what it's like to be trapped in a body that you aren't comfortable in(wolf link). I think in MM he learns to heal himself and let go of his PTSD. Forgiving the world for making him do what he did. He is honestly one of my favorite heroes in video game history bc of that. The Hero of Time is lowkey now the Hero of Healing.
When he puts on those masks, he has to face all the pain they had to when they were alive. It's very clever, because those hardships changed those people into who they were, just like they do to link.
I never really thought about it, but turing into these creatures must be EXCRUCIATINGLY PAINFUL! I mean, imagine you gained the mouth of a Peashooter, your skin becomes wooden and you shrink. Then imagine you become 3 times as wide, and like 1.5 times as tall, gain a back made of rocks, and have your bones stretch. Or, imagine becoming double your height, gaining scales, loosing lungs, and gaining gills. Not to mention, his genitalia most likely change in each of the forms, so now he has a fish penis. Man, Majora's Mask is fucking insane
@@melaninmasterfor that last thing at the end I’d like to also add that gorons are genderless cause they are just rocks(which is why they’re allowed in gerudo town) Its gotta be terrifying to just straight up lose a body part when you put on a funny mask
I think it’s bc he’s already been through a lot bro got shot by a robot with a 1000°+ laser bosses that move a the speed of light and been slumped for 100 years I wonder tho if the sells man wiped it clean to get rid of the transmission and the bad effects or was all the powers we’re lost after link defeated it but the buffs still linger
@@zombiegod2114 unlikely, because have you seen what it did to skull kid? have you seen the pain and agony it caused MM Link and the land of termina? and BoTW link is just like “oooo a mask” *puts it on* “smells weird”
@some_random_youtube_watche2291 I once read someone theorize that because link isn't in termina, the mask does not work. It has some influence on the monsters but cannot take link over.
@@ShadowSkyX that’s only a theory, there’s no real proof that majora only has power in termina, but i’ll give you this: because Majora was beaten by MM Link, he may no longer possess the mask, that is why it doesn’t possess link like it does skull kid
I feel like if this was the only game in the series, it would constantly appear on those ObScUrE uNdErRaTeD rEtRo GaMeS lists to the point it's not even obscure anymore like Hagane or Spike McFang(I know this is way too specific lmao)
I mean, it could still be from where his body is transforming and he is in intense pain still. The reason he probably doesn't scream during him reverting is because that's his body's natural form
the masks are actually entirely composed of the sorrow of the original.he does gain the memories and knowledge of the spirits but the spirits themselves get to be free and move onto the after life as we saw with Darmani . When you play the song healing it extracts their sorrows from their souls so they won’t have to experience their pain but the sorrow has to be manifested into another form which is what the mask is .he’s experiencing the pure sorrow they felt and nothing more when putting on the mask
Fun fact: In the manga the person who was fierce diety knight is the one who made the majora mask from this beast he was supposed to kill. Man brought peace and chaos to the world
Yeah I always interpreted it that way. The three of them left many unfinished business in life and link is literally taking their places during their absence. Just the idea of randomly dying out there, not being able to attend work and leaving my cat by herself at home scaries me, now imagine having a band, a gf and like 8 eggs, or an already grown up kid who cries you everyday, and none of them know that your just died. (I don't remember the deku's background)
Its not their sorrow per say, its their memories and their emotions of their final moments, as it is their untimely deaths that is the strongest memory. Each spirit's memory is used to create these masks which then offers the wearer a glimps into their life. The song of healing has unusual properties on the soul almost as if the song itself removes any evil or negative emotions from individuals which in turn creates the mask.
The entire story of MM is him healing everyone. He is a background character to everyone and their story. He goes through his trauma in OoT and comes here where he experiences the same thing of the world being forced to forget his good deeds bc of time reversal. Everything he has done being undone and completely ruined. The first song we get is the song of healing telling us that this journey isnt about being a hero but instead about healing. Letting go of the past. Doing whats right bc its the right thing to do for yourself and not bc its expected of you. He helps each and every person find some form of happiness with each quest he completes and in the end he saves everyone by helping Skull Kid overcome his own trauma. It was never about a looming threat that needed to be stop but instead about helping the Skull Kid. After all he is the biggest victim in this game. So the hero of time is now a hero of healing. He gives the new Link in TP the song of healing bc he knows very well what its like to be in a body you dont recognize. The transformation masks and him becoming an adult but he mentally was still a child.
My theory is that he gets a flashback of the mask’s wielder putting it on and also because he is in intense pain, he will feel like his life just flashed before his eyes.
Nothing like the old Zelda games.... My top 3 will always be OOT, MM, and TP.... The only games that had our original hero of time, even if TP hes a dead skeleton.
Gotcha so the masks are literal physical embodiments of trauma and he's reliving the trauma of that person everytime he puts the masks on. You know, I think I'm good...
He has been through worse trauma. Being forced to fight for the entire world as a kid. Being a kid in an adults body. The world forgetting what he did to save it. Getting ptsd from the horrors he faced to save everyone i.e. Bongo Bongo and Dead Hand. His friend leaving him. Getting trapped in another world where they too forget his good deeds more often and also getting forced into another body he isn't use to. It's alot of trauma for a 10yo. Saw a comic of Link fighting Dead Hand crying bc he is terrified but he is forced to. He gives Impa the Lens of Truth afterwards and when she looks at him with it she just sees a scared child. Sad stuff.
@@Helperishere That somehow just makes it worse. It's adding trauma to trauma. Honestly it's surprising that he still even able to function but when you've gone through life-threatening situations back to back I guess the mind just goes into survival mode.
Can't agree with that since Link gives them all peace when playing the song of healing. I'd chalk it up to being equal to someone waking from a night terror. Mikau for example is in a peaceful dream world where he gets to play with his band forever, but when Link puts on the mask you could imagine that he's being pulled away from the peace and love of his friends kicking and screaming, so when he finally wakes up, he's still screaming.
Interviews were talking about it. The mask are leftovers from people with regrets and when Link puts on the mask, he becomes the host of a powerful spirit.
Ngl windwaker has the most catchy and upbeat music buuuut Majora's mask has the best deep grooves that hit your soul Astral observatory gang represent 💧
Damn that song makes me want to cry lol . I always imagined it like the berserker armor from berserk then it just feels relieving when he takes it off .
