So many details in the first game about The Magician and his true identity: - A picture of Log's graduation in the basement - The silhouette of the magician shoving where Log's picture of John is at the end...
*A 23 year old man, overweight and wearing smart-looking glasses, sits alone dragging the chair with him, a tired look in his souless looking dark brown eyes saying so much with so little. He sits down in front of an interviewer, pulls out a can of soda like he was pulling out a hip flask, and cracks it open as if to signal that they were in for a long one...* Alright, now that I got my drink out for this, let's get this story started... "An automated city in the far future, run entirely by robots in a world without humans...reminds me of TransCorp on a much greater scale while feeling like I'm in some damn noir film. After the Vertigo jobs, my portal home became unstable and I found myself here: a piece of flesh and blood in a city of metal and oil. The robots gave me some weird looks and I was left wondering why, until I found out that this world died and humans were pretty much wiped out here, a long time ago...I was alone, an outcast, in a world where the only things I had was my wits and a faulty dimension hopper. In other words, a dead man walking; that is, until I met someone who could help me." *Gulp* "After the last couple of jobs involving alien dimensions, me going back to TransCorp, and even solving that case from Bloomsbury, I found myself doing another one here, off the book for someone I just met and not some big shot executives. The detective I met, Philip Log (what an odd name), says that there was a rich woman he saved a year prior named Jenny Montage and that he's looking for her, all because trouble seemed to keep finding her. After he told me about his occupation and mission, I figured I'd tell him about my prior missions and my profession: that I was a 'contractor' of sorts and that my job is to see if I can fix the problems of the worlds I visit, with lethal force if necessary. I could tell he was giving me this look in what would be his eyes saying "this guy's f**king crazy" and yet, something in those mechanical sockets clicked in my mind: He had some feelings for this woman and that he needed all the help he can get. I showed him my dimension hopper and that in exchange for helping him find Jenny, he'd see what he could do to help get me home." *Gulp, gulp, gulp* "There was also the added complication of a human, running around in a robot ran city. We had to be careful because humans weren't supposed to be around anymore. All I could do now is do two things: Help Philip solve the mystery Jenny's disappearance and, most importantly, do what I do best." *One. Last. Gulp. Followed by a chuck for where the can belonged: in the trash. From there, the man's demeanor changes to a somewhat more stoic one. Almost as if the soda was his more human side being shown in a unique manner...* "From there, things escalated pretty quickly. You can read it up on my mission report, but frankly, I left out some of the best parts so how's about we bring it in here and I fill in the rest of the blanks? On days like those, I kept asking myself 'why do I always get the weirder jobs?' Needlesstosay, I found my answer: Because that's where the fun really is...and where I can try to actually help some people. *The report is brought in and with it, the introspective man fills in the rest of the story...although 'case file' would be a more accurate description for this story. For this was the story, known as The Retropolis Files.*
