In this video I show you how to take a basic dominant 7 arpeggio and create a killer line. I want you to think about this process like a cooking recipe. In this recipe there are 6 steps or ingredients that give you the result of a great sounding line. This isn’t the only way to create a great line, but different combinations of these ingredients and more or less ingredients will give another result.

I would add that as you play this line, and then describe how you added to the arpeggio to give it the sound my jazz ear loves, it all makes sense! But, would love in the end to actually hear you play it against a loop of a wonderful 2 5 1.👍 great job!

Great lesson Chase! It would be awesome to see you walk us through some standards like Misty and others. Your ideas and explanations of using chords and lines would be awesome applied to some standards. Just an idea. thanks for continued great content.
@ChaseMaddox
@ChaseMaddox 2 года назад
Thanks Nick! 🤘What do you mean by walking through some standards? So far I’ve done videos that focus on one main concept, and if I go through a standard I think I’d have to go over many different concepts applied to the tune. Not against it, but I just need to think on it more. Let me know if you have any specific suggestions for that you’d like to see.

Great lesson. This was the first one I watched where I could pause the video and play each of the lines cleanly. Not as fast as you, but I'm getting better and that's the main thing.

Is it best to stick with the locking pattern you show in the pdf? I accidentally starting learning these with alternate picking then noticed the picking patterns were a little different. Thx
@ChaseMaddox
@ChaseMaddox 10 месяцев назад
You can use whatever picking is comfortable for you. I try to keep to a consistent picking concept for my videos that I use, but you don’t have to go by that.

R b9 2 #9 3 4 #11 5 b13 6 b7 7 R think of every chord this way and one scale does it all, 12 tone scale.👌

You can’t play one of those scale degree abstractions without knowing the scale it’s referencing though.

@@ChaseMaddox true! It was really referring to, I’m sure you’ve heard it, “there are no wrong notes”

Absolutely, totally depends on the context of the notes that come before and after!

Good lesson for sure. But I'm missing the enclosures. Is there a reason for?
@ChaseMaddox

Thank you! Can you rephrase your question? I don’t think I understand exactly what you’re asking.

Enclosures are part of step 4!
@artivrolijkekunst990
@artivrolijkekunst990 2 года назад
@@ChaseMaddox In step four 4 you showed chromatic approach notes, but that is not the same as an enclosure. You do unsterstand what enclosures are, do you? They are all over the place in bebop jazz.

They could be!

Where do I talk about enclosures in step 4? I know what enclosures are.
