The dude at the end reminded of Joaquin Phoenix's version of the joker. I was waiting for him be like" you get what you deserve".( baseball through the skull). lol
This is awesome. I've never been into baseball but I never realized there was an element of fluid dynamics in it... Now I'm interested in baseball. Great analysis and lesson!
Baseball is VERY statistics intensive, more than any other sport I would say. A ton of analysis goes into it from spin rates on pitches to launch angle in batting. If you're a nerd, baseball is your sport.
Hoylt Wheilham, is one of the true Kings of the Knuckleball, met him before he passed back in 1984. Got one of his baseball autographed.. His knuckleball moved like a soccerball in air shifting angles instead of arcing or dropping. He had 3 of them types of pitches..
Basically it’s air resistance on the ball. Kind of like a piece of paper and gown it drops from left to right. How to throw? Hold with fingertips and throw without flicking wrist.
What I've noticed with knuckleballs is that while they may wobble on the way, they almost always break. I'm nothing close to a professional baseball player and really not even a good one, but I would think you could treat it similarly to other breaking balls rather than a pitch that is more about the lateral run with relative success. Just ignore the wobble. I suppose knowing which side it's going to break on is important to know though.
If the unbecoming platform shoes can be quickly edited out, we have an excellent chance of taking this thing viral, despite the unfortunate pronunication of the word knuckle.
But the ball doesn't rotate at all when it moves frantically as a knuckleball. on the experiment however they allow the ball to rotate and that's y the air behind it deviates
It would "seem" that the seams have nothing to do with it since soccer balls also move crazy when struck with no spin. So there's something else going on.
It's not that they have "nothing" to do with it, but they aren't the main cause, correct. The lack of spin allows for the unstable motion, whether there are seams or not.
Yeah me too but it was the majors and I was on the Yankees. Me and Jeter used to laugh about it all the time. It was great, but then my hemeroids got too inflamed and I had to retire.
I'm afraid that the professor is wrong when he says that the knuckleball isn't possible without its seams as a football and a ping pong ball can be used to produce a knuckleball despite lacking seams.
Definitely. The Jabulani ball from the South Africa World Cup 2010 is very smooth with so little seams, but it is very well known for its knuckleball effect
As shown in the video, the knuckler deceived and confused catchers as much or more than it did batters. Bob Uecker, who had to catch Phil Niekro, said the way to catch a knuckle ball was to let it stop rolling then walk back to pick it up.
How was it possible Professor Zota was not literally beating away swarms of thirsty women with that pimp hat? (My guess is they were just off camera.) 0:46
I was sitting here listening and not noticing the nhk logo and wondering where I've heard these voices, and then I remembered: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z926Kky76dQ.html Then I noticed the extremely obvious logo.
That was my first thought, but one definition in baseball is a breaking ball is any ball thats breaks, and knuckleballs do that so.... fuck. Annoying none the less hahaha.
Sure you can. You better grow up fast then, there are only two major league pitchers who are regular knuckleballers, there's plenty of room for another. If you can throw major league distance, CORRECTLY, with speed and limited spin you will be in for sure. I thought I could throw one when I played A ball too.
Another commentary on our sad country. Asian kids watching news on science of a pitch and wind effects with seams on the ball. American kids learning the science of wind effects thru a bong and the seeds placed there in.
Charlie Brown Asian not pc enough for you? So in what country is the Fukuoka Institute located. Thought Asian captured most people in that part of the world without my trying to guess where exactly someone is from without offending. You're up a little late aren't you? Shortbus for you to catch in the morning. nighty night.
Charlie Brown I am so glad that I was born when I was and not raised in a generation of the easily offended when there is typically no intent to offend. I see you are one of those. And the proof is that instead of you understanding the content of my original message, you picked on something that offended you. I am not glad or sorry if you were offended. The point Linus is that somewhere in this world there is a certain group of people of some descent that are interested in something that a certain group of people in this country and of some descent are not smart enough nor able to comprehend what those other people from another part of the world are doing. See how much easier my first comment was? Oh...sorry there I go again offending people since I assumed you understood sarcasm and that you understood the basis of my first reply. Please forgive me...the person likely not using their real name....dang it....there I go again....
