I could watch Dame's shot mechanics all day, explains why a 'normal' sized adult has some of the deepest range in history. On the other hand, every time I watch Tatum, it amazes me his shot is as effective as it is..... It just looks impossible to be consistent, but he manages it somehow!
Hours and hours of shooting. I’ve never played basketball organized. But I fell in love with it my junior year of high school and would be at the Y 4 hours on average and some days 10-12 hours. Just putting up shots/working on handles. It took some years, but I can be on the court with real hoopers and not look totally out of place. Especially being a football player my whole life, linebacker at that. If you can find what form works for you, and practice it all the time you become proficient at it. People have told me my jumper looks like a professional jumper.
tatum isnt consistent???? he literally broke the nba record for the most turnovers in nba history in a playoff run. he's also scared of andrew wiggins.
Wow, I never noticed the fingertips on Dame’s shooting hand before. Man, he does every little thing possible to generate more force on that shot. Amazing.
haliburton used to have a lower set point in high school but his AAU coach told him to shoot with a 5 year old standing in front of him, the kid kept blocking his shot so tyrese raised his set point.
Holy sht this is revolutionary. Completely made me reevaluate myself as a basketball player. The team that wins is the team that makes more shots than the other team. So winning is just a function of putting the ball in the basket and stopping your opponent from putting the ball in the basket.
He's done consecutive contests on this channel, if you look at one of the years where all 3 were in it he compares. I think this channel or the old pro-shot channel compared all 3 in a video too.
@@tavarespeoples3540 It's 1 motion. Dame just keeps a tighter form than Curry. Curry is like a technical artist while Dame is like an artistic technician.
Great analysis! This energy transfer thing you talked about is, in my opinion, the most important thing to master to go from a good shooter to a great one. While I think Haliburton's 31 was coincidental, I also understand that at the end of the day shooting a basketball is just a physics problem. No matter how weird your release or foot placement is, if you're throwing at an optimal pace and with an optimal arc, the shot will go in.
I mean Lonzo ball former shooting form begs to differ, if you remember he had to bring the ball across his face to shoot wich against high schoolers and college players work but NBA defenders maid him pay for it. Being able to get your shots off is the priority and if your form don't get in the way of it then all that's its left is the arc and physics.
That energy transfer is what i think doomed Haliburton in the finals. The form how awkward it may be is only good as long as the body can sustain it. Just like jump shooters tend to exhaust themselves faster in a competition like the 3 point shootout, an optimal form can reap its advantage in such a situation.
I'm pretty sure Halliburton has the highest career three-point shooting percentage of anyone in the contest this year. No reason to be surprised at 31 from him.
Wow... Great work... And double wow for Dame.. I never felt in love with the guy because I tend not to like when a special athlete, doesnt try himself in scenarios where he can really compete, however.. he looks like an artist.. a painter.. there is poetry is his hand and his eyes looking at the ball After the release.. his rhythm reminds me of Pat Metheny right hand making the same move over and over in order to play with the loop... Wow...
I was a very good shooter at the high school level. I find following the ball through the air really disorienting. It wasn't even something I considered doing before this channel first mentioned it. I will not be switching lol I always shoot it short when I look up
Yea watching Dames form compared to some of the other guys, its obvious why he has such effortless long range 3, some of the other guys have managed to just put in the work to overcome their more difficult shooting forms, but Dame makes shooting look so effortless (much like Curry)
Coach nick, 8 think it is worthy to take note the spread of the arc of player. Meaning who has the most consistent arc and how it changes when they shot the 3pt ball
I think how far away from release matters, if measured close to their hands the arc might be higher? Well at the very least the method of measurement is the same for each player so it’s at least useful for comparing them to each other
I read somewhere Curry’s arc is 55 degrees? Maybe from ESPN’s sports science series? My natural inclination does not have great arc, I tend to shoot better when I focus on it and execute it for greater arc.
When youre in a contest environment like this its differrent because of all the crazy stuff happening around the basket. visibility is really rough. I wouldnt read too much into looking at the ball or rim on these attempts. This is out of the ordinary even for nba players. Thats why they arent hitting damn near every shot like they do in practice.
Have tried and tried learning the 1 motion shot, but after 30 years of playing, just can't do it. Not sure it would help, but wanted to see if I could learn it. My mind just can't let go of the pause at the top of the jump. It's ok. I can shoot accurately from the hash marks on the run using the 2 motion jumper, so we're good. I amazed at some of these pros. How do you get this far without some shooting coach asking "what are you doing?"
I notice that players grab the ball on their right side, because that’s where the ball rack is. Seeing randle grabbing the ball from his left side, that’s where the ball rack is. Granted he’s a lefty. So there’s no difference. I haven’t seen a player (right dominant) position themselves where the ball rack is on their left side, grab the ball and then shoot. Let’s say, they start at the right corner. It makes so much sense. It’s all 1 fluid motion. And their feet is aligned. If you’re a lefty like randle, the ball rack should be on your right side and you should start on the left corner.
in a way in thankful dame is loyal and don't leave the blazers. imagine if he actually wanted to win a championship and joined just one other superstar. league would be toast.
That's funny, I'm no pro but I also noticed Dame's shot mechanic a long time ago. He basically lets his palm go flat and rest in his hands. Crazy how he's been making 30-40 foot bombs one handed essentially.
a winning one, he had to shoot it higher with the jacket on by stopping his hand following through earlier and he positioned his elbow higher, if he wanted increased range he simply brought the ball further behind his head. I know this because Larry himself demonstrated it with Arnold Auerbach. I can shoot from almost halfcourt like that and I mostly hit the back or front rim, sometimes straight through the middle, but I have to bring it a bit behind my head and never drop arms completely on follow through because it makes it a flat shot which is more likely to hit front rim. If you shoot like Larry then the back does most the talking, not so much the wrist or shoulders like with people who push the ball like Steph. Once the shoulder is damaged you can go play 2k.
coach - is there a trick to developing hand strength in your shooting hand? i've been playing for 30 years and i can never quite develop the hand strength that nba players have to just hit a regular jumper from like half court. much beyond college 3 pt range i have to start throwing instead of shooting and i think adequate hand strength is a big part of being a good shooter.
it's not hand strength, it's body mechanics. get your legs involved. that's where the power comes from. when I'm at the park and I see kids trying to shoot deep I make them do a drill. shoot the ball over the backboard with perfect mechanics. don't try to make a shot. just concentrate on generating as much power as possible, with great mechanics, while trying to launch the ball over the back board. keep stepping back until you can get the ball over the back board from half court, or as far back as you can go. do this drill everyday and your range will extend. this drill teaches you how to maximize your power output from your shooting motion.
the secret is he should of lost it was made for him to win. the 2 "stary" balls gave him 6 points buddy had 25 without any bs "stary" balls and dame only got 26 with them... and to top it off they were only about 13-14 inchs back from the line...
@@leannasty he's shooting ~35.5% from long 3. And pretty much all of his long 3s are loooong. Actually a similar % as Curry, and Dame takes a lot more from way out there. More of Steph's shots are off screens at the line. The reason he's more efficient
This is awesome content! I wish I had this information readily available when I was learning how to shoot. I was definitely taught some shooting mechanic myths by my former coaches.
What information. He shows a little vid and comments but the comments don't describe the video particularly accurately. It's a script, to get you to the ad.
@@johnsmith1474 I'm only at 2.5 mins in the vid. By then, coach pulled a protractor out to measure and illustrate shot arcs. Then proceeded to critique players' shot mechanics, drilling down all the way to the player's body alignments (with points on their feet, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, hand release, etc). What information?
My man. Im 34 and after more than 10yrs of stopping playing basketball i just started figuring stuff out trying out Dame's and Jokic's styles since my elbow was hurting while making shots in a form i was doing prior due to a injury from work, we didn't had Internet nor cameras back in the day so we were just winging it, i couldn't hit 3 threes in a row if my life depended on it, imagine my surprise when i hit 6th in a row from different positions, i was like i am an idiot 😂
Come on, coach.. Disappointing to see you trying to make some extra bucks by trying to get your viewers hooked up on on-line gambling. This can ruin some people's life. Get back to ball shaving or smthng
If you get scammed, that’s on you. So... After all, no one is pointing a gun at you forcing you to invest your money on gambling. At the end of the day, you make your own decisions, you make your own choices.
@@robert2690 if this was the case, why do cigarette or gun advertising is very limited? You got to have restrictions on products \ services that are dangerous to (some) users
EVERYONE promotes gambling from small RU-vidrs to big RU-vidrs to former hall of fame multi millionaire athletes on ESPN . USA governments legalized this degenerate unhealthy behavior, don’t try to shame coach for making a few extra bucks for making his awesome videos.
Hey coach what do you think of Larry Bird's mechanics? He's got that 2 motion trebuchet with ball resting on his palm almost behind his head and than the high release.
