These decodable texts will be perfect for our independent differentiated workstations! Thank you for creating these amazing decodable passages and activities.
I plan on teaching my little one to read. I've never worked with decodable texts before. The insight you brought was helpful. I'll definitely keep these secrets in mind when finding decodable texts.
I started using decodable books this year in first grade and really like them. It gives them extra practice on the phonics skills they are working on and high frequency words. I love the idea of giving them background knowledge of the subject they are reading about.
This! After switching to Decodable Readers this year there has been a lot of talk about how it could eliminate the love of reading. In my opinion it has only given students more confidence and pride in their reading. However, I've also spent lots of time trying to take guided reading books and finding those specific phonics skills we want students to look at. I love the supports in the decodable passages that enable students to more easily focus on those phonics skills without the teacher having to give them every other word because "we haven't learned that yet." Thanks for sharing these ideas! I'm so excited for the path my students and I are on!
Yes, decodable texts all the way! I am a firm believer and have been using them all year in first grade. Being a member of your Literacy Club has provided engaging decodable passages with complete lesson plans that I really appreciate. I am sure my students would love these Safari decodables as well because they love animals! (great photos!) Thanks for the reminder to share background knowledge prior to reading the text. Great tips Alison! Thanks
Decodable! I already use decodable texts, but this is definitely helpful to know because I have students that are still struggling as readers and I’ll be able to differentiate based on phonics skills that each student needs help with. I like that these passages are broken down by certain phonics skill, and not just jumbled with a lot of skills they may not need to work on.
Thank you for this video! I have so many decodable texts, but I'm never completely sure of the best way to use them. Especially with my higher readers. This will be very helpful in planning my small groups.
This video had some great ideas. I’m trying to use more decidable texts with my students. The Decodable Safari readers look amazing. I love how you include ways to build background knowledge and check comprehension as well.
Just started using decodable texts this year. Thank you for all the tips to bring comprehension and vocabulary learning to forefront, right alongside the decoding!
I do currently use decodable texts in my first grade classroom. I am struggling with finding decodable texts that actually have the possibility to ask comprehension questions and introduce vocabulary. These safari decodables are going to be awesome to use with my small groups as well as whole class.
