15:03 "why no rylais?" the reason is because velkoz q slows more than rylais, his E is hard cc so rylais is useless there, and his ult applies a 10% lower slow than rylais so its just not a good item to buy, since it only has any effect with his W. but if you are playing velkoz properly, you should just be layering W with his other abilities, which makes rylais effectively useless ontop of giving bad stats

Azapp is one of the most underrated players in the community. Midbeans blabbering about how Velkoz is "not so hard to play" (Tbh when someone says that I don't think they know how to maximize Velkoz's kit or how his Q split works) but what this guy can do with the champion is nothing short of insane. 15:10 the reason he doesnt go Rylai's is because only one ability, W, benefits from it. All other abilities apply CC which doesnt stack with thr Rylai's slow. W is also a combo ability, so you're combining it with your other CC abilities anyway, rather than using it by itself. Conclusion: Rylai's is a troll item.

Vel's passive allows that champ to be viable if you're good enough at comboing. Understanding the ult combo means bursting just about any champ with any amount of health.

About vel being a mechanical champ, i think from mechanics side only layering all your abilities while moving seamelessly as well as ult+side Q, but what is harder than that is macro, and positioning nr1 (also ban zed)

so i'm just getting back into the game, but like season 5-6 when i was really playing a lot, velkoz was the only reliable azir answer besides corki, and this was before the package buff. so vel koz was prominent. I think he was popular in korea as well. I remeber when people found out he was a decent support, which made him a not-uncommon flex pick in draft. Although he's never been meta in the support role, his true damage and long range has always made him a valid pick. the problem is that he's never gonna fully maximize an adc's potential in a traditional sense so it takes an excellent vel koz player who's willing to make the difference between teams in an unconventional way with a (at least) complicit adc. he scales super well with spellthiefs, always had. his autos are instant, his projectiles offer serious zoning, and the true damage on his passive and ult make him a real threat in any "to the death" scenario. These threats, however, are less useful in a competitive scenario where an enemy bot lane knows how to stay safe, and where junglers are the only kill threat you regularly encounter. although his damage is reliable, his CC is not, and he's squishy/ doesn't offer enough peel, so other combinations just end up with better results because of the insane variance. IMO, although it doesnt matter what an ex peak plat player thinks, vel koz, in support and soloq, is consistently a skill based matchup that seldom meets its betters among players who don't know how to combat him or work with teammates well.

it makes me glad people are starting to realize koreas macro is nonexistent and is not as hard as ppl fantasize it to be. almost every streamer is now chall korea atm

A bit of context from a velkoz main here (there are dozens of us), nobody knows how to play against velkoz and can't avoid his damage. If I'm playing support it's not uncommon to have more damage dealt than your ADC which translates into winning games. I play him mid and rush Liadry's every game - his waveclear is some of the best in the game and Liandrys makes it even better, also synergises well with his true damage passive and lets you shred tanks. He does well into immobile champions and tanks but gets shafted by high mobile picks, I ban Fizz every game and usually dodge Kata or Naafiri games, other than that there aren't really many unwinnable matchups and players almost never play against him mid.

"The only thing hard about Vel'koz is the angles of the q" That's simply wrong. Most non-Vel'koz players aren't aware that the Q can be clicked again, in order to split the projectiles early. This is a pretty fast effect, and it's hard to consistently hit it accurately. Vel'koz is a very mechanical champion.
