How would I criticize the master? Your video and audio standards are so high I can only state my very very humble opinion. I love to watch videos where I cannot tell people are lid. In your case I can not tell you're lid from a high angle and above you (well now that you've shown it 🙂), but the light is very obvious on you. I'm struggling with this myself and I'm experimenting with lower ISO and then tinkering with the intensity and distance to the light. I'm very limited with the space in my room so the stand can only be in one place, + - 1meter maybe. But I would love to see you "melt in" into the background more smoothly and since you've got this great hair light that also lights your shoulders, you're separated all right. Keep up the great work Harv, I'm a big fan from your early days!

Great! :) One thing I can add is that flyers or swing-out arms are invaluable if you know you're going to e in a certain setup for a while. We've set up a few product photo tables for companies that want to do their own instructionals or plain product shots, and when space is tight it's great to just swing things out of the way when sorting out a batch of stuff to shoot. They also keep cable nests off the floor. Definitely agree on the teleprompter. Excessive TP side glancing when someone does a talk to camera makes me feel like there's someone behind me when I view the video :) :D

Perhaps a video about your workflow. If the audio goes into Logic first I assume you do all the sweetening there and then go into Final Cut and sync. This means your sweetening audio you may eventually be editing out it would seem. Others would edit in FCP and then send audio to Logic for sweetening. These are all guesses and assumptions so perhaps a good workflow video for sweetening and syncing to FCP would be worthwhile.

This is a great idea, you’re correct that I process in logic before importing to Final Cut. I’ll certainly add this to my video schedule, ideas for the video title also welcome! 😅 many thanks

As a n00b to the upgrades to the recording setup beyond a super naive setup i'm curious whether pulling audio from the mic into obs and let that mix video and sound in recording is better or as bad as pulling condenser mic through the dslr jack port? I'm afarid if i start buying rodecaster or othe audio recording equipment, I'll explode my video file footprint and will drown in post trying to merge all these files and format together. Which to a small youtube means - i can no longer afford to post as often or nearly at all. What audio setup would be best for solo video podcasters who can't afford all this gear and, more importantly, all the time if it takes to set it up and make use of it in post to produce a youtube or tiktok video?

So now am relieved to know it is not only me who is using lights like that. some people at my home called my lighting setup over kill without knowing the small reasons of the lights we use in the videos.. I wanna ask, instead of using shotgun microphone, you are using condenser microphone with all that audio interfaces, what about the hum and the ambience sound it captures? because your microphone is far way from you and not closer to your mouth.

Ah it’s funny you should mention that as I have a video explaining how I manage mic positioning coming very soon, should answer this exact question 😁

Harv - what mode do you have the mic in? Given it’s so far away do you have it in omni mode? Or cardiod?

It’s actually a composite of a few parts so not something you can buy off the shelf (hence the not mentioning a brand/model) but the important component would be the boom arm which is the K&M 25530 👍🏻

Great informative video as always, pal! For location work, I use a field mixer (Sound Devices) and use a stereo attenuator cable to drop the signal from line level to mic level, this then goes into my Sony camera. It means that the preamp on the camera is at it's lowest level, so there's a low noise floor. I find the quality by using this method is excellent and saves me recording the sound with a separate device. Here I am also using a Hall of Fame reverb pedal in my chain, which accepts line level. It's also shot on ultra large format ;) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pSUw-4Y-FHs.htmlfeature=shared

Harv, why do you need a 600d in such a confined space?
@HarvVideoAudioStuff
@HarvVideoAudioStuff 5 месяцев назад
It’s all about power! The more power the more diffusion I can use, plus I shoot lots of macro video in which I’m stopped down to F18-22. I frequently use the 600d at 100%! 😄

@@HarvVideoAudioStuffI agree! There is rarely such a thing as too much light. As long as I’m not don’t really need high ISO in the darkest shots (I prefer to shoot everything at the same ISO) light is always something that is great to have. And there are always ND’s, right?
