Good info! The torque converter is king for obvious reasons. I actually have a ct200u, and just installed a torque converter with the 5 to 1 gearing and 19 inch tire. Take a look at the yellow Secondary spring, it helps greatly to keep the rpms up. And also a true comet belt seems to be the ticket! The cheap ones flex too much and don't achieve full shift out.

Needing a running start to do the speed test @ 2;45 reminded me of the Isle of Mann races & particularly back when the bikes were 2 strokes but needed to be pushed to get it rolling but then they went like a bat outta hell w/ a high revving engine. I'm not quite sure how that relates to this but them pushing the bikes to get going is what caught my attention. Anyhoo, I'm watching to learn something..... peace

for those that are confused by this video the colemans in all stock form have a gear ratio of 10 to 1 thats a pretty good all around gear ratio its good for startin off on a hill but it doesnt offer much in the way of speed the governor in my bike is defective so i get a top speed of 25 M.P.H. on flat ground others report like 13 mph. with a properly working governor the way i determined the 10/1 gear ratio is is by turning the clutch untill the rear tire made one full revolution i ride my bike on dirt roads an honestly i rarely hold full throttle for more than a few seconds because of the ever changing road conditions it literally goes from hard pack scattered with loose rock to mostly hard packed white with random loose spots to a creek crossing then hard packed red clay with ruts then a long moderately steep grade that being said 10/1 gearing is an excellent choice for that

I enjoyed the video. Sounds like the torque converter is best but if I just wanted a little more hill climbing power without spending a lot of money what do you recommend? I have a Coleman ct200. Is it best to put a little larger rear sprocket or a smaller clutch sprocket. I don’t care if I loose a little top end speed. Thanks.
@HowToLou

You can’t get a jackshaft sprocket with less than 10 teeth. Yep, replace your 50T with 60T. That will give you 20% more torque and 20% less speed.

Besides the obvious, the belt says "this side to engine" is pointed the opposite way. Just a safety concern. That belt being on wrong and it rolls upside down and Flys apart, it's going to hurt like heck at best. worse case the eyes. A one inch peice at 5k rpm will hurt and bruise you pretty bad.

Surprised that I hit a top speed of 41mph running 21” tires. Not looking for speed with this build- Going to an 8 tooth sprocket up front for all kinds of insane hill climbing torque..thoughts?

Small to big = torque Big to small = speed Larger rear sprocket will give more low end grunt Going smaller on "driver" side will tack out the engine very quickly. We used this combo: 212cc Driver vs. Driven = speed 14 60 44 mph 12 60 37 10 60 31 8 60 23-25 Pops wheelies constantly not user friendly 11 50 33-34 Best set up so far

How does some of the Coleman 196cc only go around 24 mph but other dirt bikes with a 50cc say it will go up to 60mph I don’t understand how that makes sense. I thought the higher cc led to higher speeds
@MH-pc2ky
@MH-pc2ky 8 месяцев назад
Higher cc's = more power More power = achieving Max mechanically limited speed faster or sooner Gearing will be your limiting factor You got the power, so now you mess with drive /driven sprockets Start in rear first 10 teeth change is huge 60 tooth to 50 tooth...is almost 20% gain in speed...but 20% loss in torque So that's huge

@@robertbruhcuh3634I have mixed results, so I weigh about 230lbs, with the 40T and stage 1 I hit 85km/h @3800rpm(212cc)maxed out, no governor 50T has stage 1 and mikuni and I hit 75km/h @4200rpm (212cc) with no governor I think the 40T would wakeup if I weighed less but for my weight the 50t is more reasonable. Both bikes run a CVT with 10T front gear / sprocket. My 60T bike is a little different. It only has a pod filter / straight pipe header, but a 420cc engine with a 14T clutch (no CVT) with the governor still intact (3400rpm) I max out at 65km/h. I'd imagine it would go over 100 km/h without the governor, but I don't wanna die 😂 it has twice the torque as my other 212s

So if i want more torque, get less teeth gear for jack shaft/more teeth on wheel? Say 10 tooth gear and 50 tooth, is there such a thing as 9 or 8 tooth gear? And would that change chain length? Does it affect horsepower? Would i need more horsepower for more torque?
@Deucealive75
@Deucealive75 Месяц назад
If you are asking about the stock Coleman jackshaft the 8 and 9 tooth sprockets available may not fit the metric jackshaft properly. Easiest way to more torque is a 60 tooth sprocket and longer chain whether you are using a jackshaft or a torque converter. Gearing cannot change the engines HP but can limit power available. My experience with the Coleman bikes tells me that once I got the gearing to where I want it there's no need for a big power engine for it to be fun. Gearing is important for minibikes and go karts.

@Durfboard
@Durfboard Год назад
A few questions 1.) When you go from the 10 tooth to the 11 tooth on the torque converter do you have to change chain size or the same chain will still fit? Also 2.) When you go from the 10 to the 11 tooth on the torque converter does that make the engine rpm go up? If so should I worry about the engine spinning to fast on stock internal parts? Or will it still not spin faster than the governor allows and still go faster mph?
@HowToLou
@HowToLou Год назад
1 - I used the same chain. Just loosened slightly. 2 - The RPMs will not go past the governor limit.
@GeorgiaRidgerunner
@GeorgiaRidgerunner 9 месяцев назад
the governor will limit the engine rpm. regardless of the sprockets as it governs engine by merely closing the butterfly in the carburator i wouldnt know about the chain though but it not difficult to modify the chain length theres plenty videos that show how to shorten a chain not many showing how to add a link though
