@Aron Martinus Try budget. But go back to A Penske corporate facility and as for a commercial rate and tell them you want a 60 day rate agreement. See if they can get you down to $500/week and like $0.15 a mile.
@bigrecordzinc4559 i went to progressive. I got a truck, a old truck vending number and you will get a cheaper quote. Get you a old truck vending number and give to the insurance company and you'll get a cheaper quote. That's the hack.
man cant believe I stumbled apon this. im really looking to get into the business. So definitely needed the basic and this video was a great thing. bout to listen to part 2!!!
Dude at Penske said $360/wk for van, $210/wk for their ins and outs.19/mile. Ended up with a quote of $340/wk, $200/ins and .10mile. They have wiggle room
My Hertz here locally for fleet truck service in oregon does$ 66/day, 396/wk 😊, $1499/month for 15ft box truck and 442/wk for 26/ft box truck, you are allowed 100miles per day them no charge. This is the best ive seem anywhere. , These tracks are brand-spanking-new to and they even have work tricks for like dumpsters and dump truck looking things in the big 40 ton dumpter trucks and side load and they are pretty close in price 600/wk being The highest
RENT = (July,2023) A 26 foot truck with tuck under liftgate. Penske = $924 week, @ 21 cents per mile, plus gas, plus Insurance @ $484 week. That comes to: $1,408 weekly (plus fuel @ 5mpg x $3.50per gallon, minimum.

When I was renting a 26ft box truck through budget. I never paid for mileage. That was in 2021 and my truck rental was 2k/month. It went up to $2500/month in 2022
Pricing and even availability can be all about the relationship with the "Rental Manager". I'm a Penske Agent located in Midlothian, VA. Green Lane Transportation Rental Solutions
I’m new here and you’re definitely right about building a relationship with these companies in order to maintain your business finance & being able to use the truck. I’m definitely using your advice for my dispatching business
Right now I'm driving for a guy who has a LaserShip contract who in turn is contracted through Walmart to deliver to post offices and I just feel that if I rented a truck and got my own LaserShip contract through Walmart I can be making more money and you answered most of my questions so thank you sir
Thank you this video enlightened me so much.. I just had a rental for a couple of months..it really exhausted my funds..but I learned a lot..I'm going back in with bought sense
Bro I really like your content, you know exactly what your talking about. It’s to many snake oil sales men out here, its refreshing to hear some one the actually know what they are talking about 💪🏾
Free came here...Budget may be cheaper, but enterprise is close with better, way better trucks that are more reliable. Also the further out you look from the city the more affordable rates are, you may have to drive about 1 hr out. but you will save in the long run. good luck,.
Thank you. I was trying to get my insurance and the insurance company said I need to have a vin number .how do I go about getting the vin number without having the rental truck
Hi Mark I just spoke to a friend this morning and him n his wife said the shippers aren't letting him use his rental truck no more the brokers are telling him the shippers don't want logos on the trucks no more shipping they stuff.. I sent him your peak season video and said watch him he is real keeps it 💯. I just wanted to ask you did something change have you heard of this now in 2023?
Yes. A lot has changed and is changing. I spoke a little on it lastnight and continuing the conversation on tonight’s livestream. May I ask, what brokerage company is it they run for that’s no longer allowing the rental truck?
@@markthementor He sent me a copy it's Action Express Inc. from Columbus Ohio that said no rental trucks..cause his work has been contracts not much OTR. He had contracts with buy buy baby n bed bath and beyond but they went outta business now.
I was planning on starting my currier business with a cargo van rental. What do you recommend a cargo van or a 26 foot box truck. Will the box truck pay more money?
@@markthementor bet. I’m in Maryland. I sent you my IG to contact because I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction as far as getting a box truck and working from there. Been driving Class A since 2018 and I’m tryna change it up
Question. WITH A CLASS "C" YOU CAN DRIVE A 26FT TRUCK UNDER 26,000 LBS AND CANNOT CARRY MORE THAN 10,000 LBS, IS THAT CORRECT.? ALSO, IF IT HAS AIR BRAKES, REGARDLESS OF ABOVE, THEN YOU NEED A CDL B CLASS MINIMUM, IS THAT CORRECT.?
Hello. Class C is needed for vehicles 16,000-26,000 pounds. 26,001 and above requires CDL. NonCDL straight trucks with air brakes do not need endorsement. Non cdl meaning under 26,001 pounds. Air brake endorsement only matters if you are operating vehicle in CDL weight territory. If non cdl then it is not required. Hope this answers your question.
Is it better to find the right loads first and then rent 26 ft box truck or vic versa? Plus when finding loads do they ask if you own a box truck or are you renting?
Hello. Thanks for watching. Pay for a subscription and have the loadboard ready as well as all you licenses. When you get the truck you should be ready to start pulling loads off the boards.
I’m in California and thinking of getting into this. I’m assuming you’re renting under a USDOT? And I’m applying for my usdot but all the rental companies won’t rent to me under my DOT number so the rates are stupid high. 1100+/week. They said to be eligible for a lease I need my authority for 3+ years. Am I missing something?
Due to recent incidents, most rental companies have changed their company model and have added stipulations to renting to new authorities or people who are new to the industry.
@@markthementor Budget rental, Penske and U-Haul commercial programs have all limited their miles to a "milage cap" of 120-150 miles a day as of 2023. How are these youtubers using a rental box truck for their DST amazon relay if this is the case? How come everything I'm hearing from these rental companies is the exact opposite of what these trucking Ytbrs are saying??
Thanks for making the video. If you intend to do Amazon Relay, should you mention that to the truck rental companies? Is there any benefit in doing so?
Great question. Yes. Amazon has a discount code they give you to pass along to the rental company for a discount exclusive for Amazon contractor rentals.
@Mark The Mentor I'm having trouble with the insurance to activate my authority, I'm planning on renting, should I get the truck first then get the insurance before my MC authority days are up or can I some how get my insurance before I get the truck, I'm planning on doing Amazon relay. Thanks ahead of time.
Your the second person to contact me from Georgia since yesterday with the same problem. I think there is definitely a shortage of trucks in the southeast region. You may need to try the Midwest.
Great video I have been waiting on someone to drop a more recent video on this topic. Looking to get into the business in January. What is the cap on the amount of miles you can drive per week ??
@@elyl78 Hello. A lot has changed in the rental game since I made this video. There are many stipulations they are implementing now due to scarcity and more so due to the bad characters who are making it tough for good people. People are running off with trucks etc. Mileage caps won’t work if you seriously want to make money. The answer is you can’t make it work if your capped. You need to find a company that won’t cap the miles or ultimately purchase your own truck.
I’m in the process of getting truck insurance to activate my MC but idk how if I’m only trying to rent trucks as of now. In the future will buy my own.
Man Yall have to stop telling people to rent these trucks, this is the quickest way to drain your business. I'm speaking from experience not from the side of my neck, show them how to finance a truck!!!!
Some folks dnt have the credit or funds to go buy a truck. U get 1500-2000 get u a rental and grind hard for about 6 mins make sure you like what you’re doing then but a truck.
i have been offered a contract with a company that moves pallets out every day. I personally know the owner, which helps, and im trying to figure out if i should buy or rent a box truck.
Thank you for making this video. I've been searching for a video about how to use rental trucks and possibly cargo vans. I've seen some videos but they all say it's not a good idea, I believe in my case it would be a perfect idea as I don't have the money to buy one, but I'm in the market for a cargo van preferably a sprinter. Anyway can this work for cargo vans? Not sure if any of that is said in ur video yet.
Im a new subscriber , I was a little hesitant at first but my brothers with experience said you knew what you were talking about. Here is where i'm at. I have to start over from the beginning with no help from anyone. I can go OTR and to Canada because I need to be at 10,000 a week to finance my other IT projects I designed. This is the only way I can get the money without having a partner. Which path would you recommend I take?
@@markthementor I want to do box truck to keep it simple. I committed to getting the money/capital for my other IT business goals. A CDL complicates things. $10,000 a week in a box truck and I will work OTR the whole year..
@@josephtrice82 I’m going to be honest with you. $10k a week in a box truck is extremely hard and almost u realistic especially in this economy. The average box trucker who is pushing 3,000 miles a week too dollar May average a grand a day. So $5-6k gross. That $10k gross range, that figure is average for a semi owner operator.
@@josephtrice82 Not sure. Never sent a truck across the border. I rarely see partial loads going over into Canada. If your in a box truck you’ll be looking for partials. Obviously there is much more opportunities for semi trucks and less for box trucks, so partials running across the border, I’m not sure if it would be consistent enough to meet your expectations.
Hello. Thanks for watching! Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately a lot of bad people have messed up the rental experience. The pandemic money drew in an influx of people and not all were good. From stolen trucks, unreturned trucks, declined cards etc they just don’t want to deal with new people anymore. It’s unfortunate.
So why is Budget saying you can only go under 300 miles for a commercial account. Please I need advice.. This don't sound right btw im in cali & this is a budget in cali also
Hey Mark, I’m desperate right now, my rent was upped $300. I would be paying $1050 for a 2 bedroom. I have less than 2 weeks to move out. It’s too much & not worth it. I just need clarity on if I need a BOC-3 to rent & book a load. I want to lease on with someone starting off rather than pay high insurance rates for my first time. I can’t seem to find clarity on what I need first before I call the loadboard & rental office. I have my LLC, EIN, but I heard you don’t need a DOT/MC number nor insurance because you can use theirs if you lease on. Could I personally contact you by email? To further this conversation. If you’re willing, if not thanks, just desperate.
Hi! Do you know of any rental companies besides the big name ones? Budget wouldn’t even approve me for a commercial account because they hav a mile cap of 150mi per day and they said they wont have 26’ available for another 3-6months near my area anyway. Penske is saying my business has to be at least 3 years old with a brick and mortar address. Ryder is my last option but they are so expensive😭 And they are even saying its a 1000mi cap for the week because its a new business I live in the suburbs of Chicago and I assume you’re from the Chicago area as well since you mentioned Lollapalooza. Any suggestions?
Hello. Thanks for watching and hopefully subscribing to the channel. The only two local mom and pop rentals truck companies in our area are Elite and Chicagoland Truck Rental and last I checked they were out as well. Even if they weren’t they are usually expensive anyways. The industry is saturated at the moment and manufacturing is not at 100% as far as producing new trucks. If you have the capital I would suggest looking into purchasing a used fair priced truck. No more than $40k.
how to start box trucking business if you dont wanto drive truck no cdl i was looking to hire driver and renting truck until i got enough funds to buy truck need advice what should i do
As a beginner what would you recommend how long I should I do the rent to own for a International Cole star truck? I’m interested and it’s on sale for 59,000
I’m looking for rentals now here in socal the cheapest I’ve seen for 26ft for 14 days is like 2300 plus cheapest per mile28 cents but that was with budget but they also want a deposit with that . Enterprise was 49 cents a mile .
Hello. Thanks for watching. A lot has changed in the rental space since I made this video 3 months ago. Rates are higher and stipulations are steeper. Many bad apples have mad it tough for newcomers so the rental companies are making it hard for newcomers if you have no history as a customer.
@@markthementor I’m seeing this i was going to start out monthly but with these kinds of rates i need to start weekly which sucks but it’s all i ha e to begin with . Got to keep on truckin .

Any advice for women? I want to start ASAP I’m in CT & NY area but I never drove a box truck before & I keep seeing the insurance out here high. CT taxes are insane
Hello. The cost of entry is definitely higher now than previous times. I would shop around and find a good competitive rate. Like I say all the time the margins are small in this industry so you have to keep your overhead as low as possible. Enter the game with overhead at a price point where you can make some money. Don’t go for the first thing thrown at you if you know it will substantially decrease your margins and lower your bottom line.
Great video my brother. Question when you rent a truck if you didn't get any work yet? For example amazon relay requirements you have to have the truck before you sign up. So I don't want the truck sitting and I'm paying 500 a week
Hello. Unfortunately many people have to do this for a week or two. If you want you can snatch a vin get your DOT active and then apply but they are going to want your vehicle info when you apply and you won’t have the actual info until you actually pick up the truck so the info can match. Unfortunately, this may be a cost you may have to eat if you want to do Amazon Relay.
@@stopthecancelculture you can. Do research first before you do so you know which brokers will work with you if your DOT isn’t aged at least 90 days so you won’t go through that frustration.
@@markthementor thanks for those gems I'll work on getting my dot and other licenses now while I'm doing my research so about that time it will have aged and I won't have to deal with the headaches. We talking dot business licenses right or cdl?
Hey Mark. So the weekly rate of 650 on the high end and 400 and change on the low end is separate from the weekly milage charge? The Milage is in addition to the weekly rate? New to the game bro lol. Thanks
Hello. Now most companies will require a down payment and the first week. Then you’ll pay weekly. Down payment will be returned at end of rental as long as there are no incidents. This policy started some time during the pandemic. May vary by location.
Hello. Thank you for watching. You would have to put commercial auto insurance on it. Contact a commercial insurance broker and have him shop you on the market for the best rates. You’ll have to provide the VIN so they quote accurately. From there, you’d choose a company, make the down payment and your broker would submit the filings.
