I would be really great to have the anthem change when we finally have that referendum to become a republic (which supposedly will happen after Lizzie passes away, which they're doing out of respect for her, and because if they hold a referendum they don't want it to be for nothing with our older generation too emotionally attached to the current leader of the monarchy). Anthem, flag -- maybe the aboriginal flag could go where the union jack is now? -- and independence. Sounds good to me! :)

Thats because this song is about you as much as its about an indigenous person whose bloodlines have been on this land for 40,000 years, or a person who is 5th generation european australian. The Seekers were another great Australian folk pop band from the 60's. They had so many great hits including "I'll Never Find Another You", "A World Of Our Own", "Georgy Girl", "The Carnival Is Over", "Morningtown Ride", "Someday, One Day" etc. They have beautiful voices & harmonies. They don't make nostalgic music like this anymore. Reminds me of a simpler time.

I always tear up listening to this song. Such beautiful story telling and a magnificent Australian anthem. "We are one, we are Australian." ❤The seekers were a fantastic group, who in their day went viral world -wide with six songs in the top ten, selling over 60m records. The 'best of' albums went no. 1 in AU and the UK. I remember my parents playing the seekers on their triple unit (TV, record player, radio combination) back in the day, and this brings back memories of my mother dancing about the kitchen to Georgy Girl. What a beautiful song of Australians' pride in their country. I had never heard it before and it reminded me a bit of the song "Mexico Lindo y querido" that I recommended in its reaction to Juan Gabriel. The song talks about the pride of being Mexican and has a funny story. The song says that if a Mexican dies outside of Mexico, they should say that he is asleep and take him back to his country. Curiously, Jorge Negrete, the interpreter, died outside of Mexico, in the USA and, of course, was taken to Mexico where he received a great tribute because he was very loved by the people. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gq8WILYkhAY.html I hope they react to this song. This is an aspirational song, co-written by the gentleman who sang the first verse. I'm not sure as Australians we are always as welcoming and accepting of people from "all the lands" who come here, but I think as a country we live peacefully enough. The glorious voice of Judith Durham is just remarkable - so effortless, so clear and warm. The Seekers were a successful "folk" group from the 60s and have some great songs. I love listening to this song. Thank you for your respect. There's a lot in this song about the country, the history (Aboriginal and European) and some of the hardships of this land. Anglo-Australia was a penal colony of the British originally and extremely harsh and unforgiving. Our history of treatment of the indigenous population is shameful, but the sentiment of the song rings true - Australians pride themselves on "having a go" and certainly our forebears had it really tough.

I could see how this song spoke to you, and I think its a little like Literature: Dostoyevsky wrote about Russia, Austen wrote about England, Rushdie wrote about India... but everyone from everywhere can relate to these books, relate to the the people in these books, and the love of place and nature in these books. "I am Australian" is about Australia, but it's also kind of universal. So many people know hardship, and they know pride in effort, and they know love of country, love of nature. They know how to open their hearts and let strangers in. I wish this was our national Anthem.

Albert Namatjira was a magnificent Indigenous painter from 40s/50s. His works are instantly recognizable as he caught the colours and light of outback Australia like noone else. He's my fave painter actually. I'm a painter myself. Ned Kelly is a beloved 'outlaw' from the 1870s/80s. He was of total Irish heritage and his family, including his mother were constantly and heavily harrassed by the police of the day. As was normal if you were Irish. This is why often indigenous and Irish grew close. I'm Irish heritage too. 7th generation. Just giving a bit of info of what's in the song for you and why. Glad you like the song. We Aussies adore it and yeah we crack up when we hear it. Tears of happiness....and it starts perfectly with the indigenous, the First Australian.

That girl is Judith Durham. At the time she was singing here she was well into her 70's. She died just last year 2022. We lost a beautiful person with a beautiful voice. RIP Judith. 💞💞

I really loved both of your reactions to this song and as a very proud Aussie, it brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. To me, this song has many meanings as a number of my forefathers were convicts and what they and their children, grandchildren, etc., have endured to make this country so great and Aussies so proud.🇦🇺😀👍

Hi guys, I love this song mainly because it, like Australia, feels so inclusive. "We are one but we are many and from all the lands on earth we come, we'll share a dream and sing with one voice: I am, you are, we are Australian" Makes me proud.

Lovely reaction, I was wondering when you might do another reaction to the Seekers. You should listen to "Georgie Girl" next. As an Australian it's great to see others around the world explore our music ❤️

We need to all call every :Labor, Green, Teal Pollies and State ones make it clear want vote on Anthem change, when vote on Statement from the Heart, would be perfect step towards Reconciliation as well, I live in Alice our Indigenous people think the same.

The female singer Judith Durham passed away on Friday at the age of 79, all Australians love this song and 95% of us believe it should be our national anthem, it encapsulates all of us no matter where we are from, whether our families were here before the white people came(the tall ships from the UK), whether your ancestry was from the tall ships or even if you came here on your own and decided to live here. "We are one, but we are many and from ALL the lands on earth we come"
