I just read about these in SAO Alternative Gun Gale Online Vol. 5. In the third squad jam they send these out on autopilot to pick up the squad members who've been selected for the event's "special rule." Really cool concept.
its amusing seeing people riding on top of oversized quadcopters like 50 years later pretending theyre in the future when theyre just retracing the steps of the past
These things are not as easy to construct as they seem, there is a misleadingly simplicity about them, also there is a big NOISE issue.........Peter, by the way the guy at 0:50 is attached to the airframe by a belt harness.
The Hiller Flying Platform was supposed to be the personal flying machine to launch us into the future. So what happened? Find out on Unbelievable Flying Objects: bit.ly/1v50XFZ
Just imagine guarding your post on the battlefield and all of the sudden thousands of these come blazing out of the horizon in a full on attack. Truly terrifying.
0:19 That one with the open helicopter rotors on the bottom ought to be called the "Flying Meatgrinder." Because it would turn its pilot into hamburger if he fell off or crashed.
Use it as-is for a children's school lifter-16 mph, stable, rechargeable electric.... Also, the bottom should have the 'reverse effect' pressure-increaser, and a fluted-remixer to induct, and quieten, ambient air pressure into the downflow, And the center hub below where the operator stands should have an inner-Coandă-effect dome....
I encountered several of these, well Soviet designs, with soldiers on them looking for me as I was crawling through a fetid swamp in Russia. Later after I had destroyed an ICBM launching giant tank with screws instead of treads and dispatched a rogue Colonel who used a Davy Crokett to destroy a design bureau, myself and a codebreaker for the NSA(who turned out to be basically a triple agent for the Chinese but that's another story... Later on she gave birth to two of my 'kids'.) were hunted through a forest with soldiers on these as we made our way towards the sea plane that had come to pick us up. Soviets' design was much smaller and made less noise.
Wow crazy the wasp was just a smaller version of this example but still was troubled with speed problems and overall sound i can understand why they scrapped the idea but probably still working on it somewhere
