Loved this. Great to see a genuine serious debate about this with clear heads. It felt like the curtain was peeled back behind a realistic coaches meeting picking the teams
For the most part. These guys have a great depth of knowledge that I for one will not ever know. There is still an element of not wanting to offend players (possibly because of their relationship to them) in fear of possible backlash maybe - I feel their personal relationships to current players cloud’s their ability to be absolutely truthful in their assessments.
Crazy chat not picking Tualagi… best winger by far last year in origin. Way more qld like. He’s been great in an underperforming side if you watch cows games

Absolutely shocking to pick Suallii over Lomax. Lomax is better in every way exact maybe bringing the ball out of their end. It's crazy how you mentioned Lomaxs small sample size of great footy like Sualii hasn't been bang average his whole career while Lomax has been pretty consistently good/great even before this year.
Lomax is actually even better than Suaalii coming out of his end. He makes considerably more metres than Suaalii. I think we all get a bit draggged in by the style that Suaalii returns the ball. Where as Lomax is more effective with his late footwork I reckon
1:18:00 Kempy I think they run Hunt at 9 not just for experience but bc the opening 20 is the fastest and his defence is insane take the sting out and Harry can run at tired defenders. Either could be gun 9/14 but just plays to their strengths slightly better for Hunt to start and also finish as we have another kicker if the games tight
Sua’ali’i as the winger spot need more Considerations , playing out of position has dailies the blues multiple times especially in defence crita played with both bizza and kiraz And run metres alone kiraz trumps sau’aili’i but I can see a world we have both in and pair them up bizza and Sua’ali’i and crita and kiraz Or Smokey - big game Mitchell and bizza and crita and kiraz (Mitchell X factor could cover few roles ) keeping the experience in that backline Jacob Kiraz post contact run metres avg: 63.64 (6th in the league) all run metres avg: 191.91 (3rd in the league) Jospeh Sua’ali’i Post run contact meters avg: 55.27 (12th in the league) All run metres avg: 136.55 (23rd in the league)
If you’re looking for a FR for a 20min stint - I think Hazelton is the best suited. He’s a big body, high work rate for his short stints and has the ability to drag defenders to score + he’s currently in form
Love the blues squad boys. Covered basically everything you could. For me my one change would be Terrell may over junior. Tmay is a bench specialist gives as much problems on attack as jr but can bring on the leg speed to track the grant and hunt change. Defensively rock solid also 97.2% tackle efficiency
Love this discussion, I heard beak talk about the team who that losses a player due to a send off doesn’t get an advantage, what about if there ever is a send off the team gains an extra 2 interchanges along with the 18th man thoughts ?
If it’s ramien surely sione katoa gets considered, a Smokey but ramian katoa on one the right and Critta and bizza on the left, that’s 2 strong defensive edges
I love it how everyone carries on about Sualii’s metres out of his own end but Lomax averages nearly 50 more metres than him per game. Lomax has gotta be ahead of Sualii. Can impact game in so many more ways
My number 26 would be Kurt Mann. Can cover a tone of positions and has been in good form while he’s been in. Out this week but if not injured he’s in my squad.

Edwards at FB I'd have Tupou over Suaalii been more consistent and more experienced. Burton in 6 got that dog in him and durable. Olakauatu and Crichton in the starting back row. If Yeo at prop then J trbojevic at lock.
also i feel having so many forwards on the bench for qld due to injuries in back there isn't really anyone who can play there. Even tho benny hunt has played there before
The only reason Burton isn't in the centres for me is because I think Critta and Lomax on the same edge is very loose and could be too off the cuff. Could have a few errors on that edge. Critta and To'o also have the Penrith combo. Ramien and Lomax could also be a bit loose but I think its a lot more safe with Lomax and Ramien. Then again its 2 debutants on the same edge. Real head scratcher.
Suaalii is a mercenary, he is just in it for the money and origin will just be a feather in his cap he won't be playing for the jersey. Lomax will play for that Jersey. Olakauatu over Young. Young has errors and penalties in him and in Origin those convert into tries for QLD everytime. Olakauatu is such a rugby league handful be silly to not utilise hom for a whole game.

Anyone that doesn't have latrell in there starting centre doesn't get origin. He's made for origin if he was a queenslander there wouldn't be a doubt he's picked. I'm a QLDer and that's the only player I fear them picking.
@jakebennett4437 there been plenty blokes who were having less than average club form but come origin they would carve up. They just made for origin then there's guys who rip nrl up every week then come to origin they fold. Go watch the last 3 times latrell played origin he was the best player on the field he treating our outside backs like they were his sons
Devastated for Connor Watson, hes been so unlucky with injuries and now that he’s finally strung a few games together he’s in origin conversation. Now he might never get that shot again

5 minutes left on the clock. NSW are down by 6. You’ve got nothing left in the tank. Who do you turn to in that critical moment? The debutant or the veteran? The debutant who hasn’t got a lot of experience playing outside his teams structure and dominance? Yes he’s a great player. And in the right team he’s your choice every day of the week. Or the veteran who’s been there, and down it better than anyone else? Captain for his club, state, and country. Yes back to back losses at state level, but also back to back wins for his country. With so many new faces, you’re going to need his leadership and experience

Id have walker at 6 , then you can go teddy , cody is actually very structured and tells people where to be not teddy jumping in at first receiver , hynes walker the all starts combo
Walker easily at 6. He was our best player in game 3, he’s the best ball playing 6 and uses his side to the best of his ability each week. Burton is a run first player and has very average ball playing. Have Burton’s centre, to’o wing, Crichton, and Walker at 6
I can’t believe Arrow is even in the conversation. For me he’s a huge no no. I’d have Sua or Welch ahead of him any day. I’d go Sua and Welch over Arrow and Jensen otherwise pretty spot on.
@Sensei_888I’m a massive Teddy and roosters fan, but it’s Edwards time. Last series confirmed that it’s Edwards time. Edwards never has the problem of over playing his hand or stagnating the attack. Teddy is a legend and always will be, but Edwards has been better for 2 years now and he’s an exceptional finals performer which is the closest thing to origin experience. I really hope Teddy doesn’t get picked and Edward does

McInnes plsss play McInnes as a middle foward. He can replicate Murray’s speed off the bench and he’s basically just a tackle machine and quick. I think Yeo knows now not to over ball play since it’s not the same coaching and directives for him to pass so much.

On the weekend 19 runs 228m 65 post contact 11 tackle breaks 2 line breaks 1 error Currently has the most tackle breaks of any centre in the comp. 3rd most line breaks of any centre. Only 3 more errors than Brian To’o this year who’s known as a very safe outside back. Definitely can be better in the errors department but he’s doing better this year. There’s quite a few more outside backs with more errors than him.
