I tried the Haidilao Self Heating Hot Pot. Crazy how this thing heats itself. Watch me unbox and assemble the thing to watch it self heat! I also take apart the heating pouch to see what's in it. Check out what it tastes like to see if you want to try this out for yourself before plopping down the money as it's a bit expensive for an instant meal.

Mix tea with little hot water first and then ice and add seltzer or else it won’t dissolve and all settle at the bottom.

I tried it today, I was a heathen and switched out the spice mix with a spice mix bag from an orange Samyang ramen packet, because I was pretty sure I can't take the spice level from this original pack. It was really good, husband really liked it as well. Fun way to cook a lunch, too!

My understanding is that a hand warmer isn't sufficiently hot enough to cook. Although the principle is similar, you should be looking at MRE heater instead.
@mcolynuck
@mcolynuck 4 года назад
@@simpletongeek The reaction speed would be different when oxidized in air vs. salted water. MRE heaters also contain salt, magnesium (actually, it's probably mostly magnesium) and other elements. Seeing it torn opened at the end of the video, I'm thinking this is very different type of heater since it expanded and is light coloured, which is so different from heaters I've used.

You could actually get a Yuzu tree where you live, they're actually one of the most cold hearty citrus fruits. I bought a tree for $40 or so, but it died I think because I used the wrong fertilizer. They have actually some of the craziest spikes on their branches, too. Actual Yuzu fruits are stupid expensive, though maybe on the West Coast they're cheaper, I think they're $4-5 each.

I wonder if you could make a DIY heating element like that with either cement or plaster of Paris. The reaction seems slightly similar to that, actually. If you use a rapid set cement or plaster, you'll notice it gets really hot when it's setting. Even when I used rapid set tile mortar, it made the tiles warm/slightly hot to the touch. Baking soda or calcium chloride can be used to make Portland cement based things set off faster, but usually it's 2% of the actual mix or so. I wonder what would happen if you made something like 1/3 or 1/2 and half. It might actually turn out as weak and crumbly as that heating pad, but maybe release a lot of heat? I think for a plaster of Paris based thing, you'd use alum as a catalyst to make it set.
@BeatTheBush
@BeatTheBush 4 года назад
I'm no chemist but I'm hoping the heating chemicals are probably filtered with the bag. That's why they want you to check there are no holes so the powder doesn't leak out and into your food. The resulting steam was indeed clear at the end.

Only if you drink it daily. But I found if you drink it too often, the acidity can be harmful to your teeth and stomach. So this is pretty rare.

@@kinglumpy6145 You dont have to load every serving with loads of sugar. I pour a shot of orange juice into a litre of carbed water and mix it. Thats like a shot of OJ across 3 or 4 servings. You can have healthy, cheap, drinks all the time so as long as you get creative.

Hey BTB, Happy New Year! What a nice way to begin my New Year with you! Learning of some new food item gadget...I won't be purchasing it...not certain about the sodium levels? As well as going through the comments, someone mentioned radio active and military in the same sentence....and it's 12 dollars....like Ariana Grande said in her song, Thankyou, Next!...Hope U have the best year ever, Be Good and Peace, cuz there's nothing in the world quite like it, especially now-with Iran and All!☆★☆★♡♡♡♡★☆♥

Sodium is very high. Processed meats is bad for you. Yeah... this Iran thing is troubling. Hope both parties just does nothing from this point and have it fizzle out.

Man, I really love Yuzu jelly. I usually make it by melting about an inch of water in a glass in the microwave to help dissolve it, though. I really should buy more of that jelly, I used to drink it all the time, but haven't drank it in a year or so. :( I had a friend who was really skeptical about trying it when I offered him something to drink and all I had was that, but he ended up really liking it. Now my big somewhat healthier drink is just cold brewed green tea, usually 8 teabags of Dollar Tree green tea and 2 tablespoons of sugar per 1.5L pitcher. Also very frugal. Homemade drinks are a lot better now with a DIY filtered water spout, I bought a spout for $20 and use a $10 ice maker filter (rated as high as a Brita per ANSI) with quick connect lines to 1/4" plastic ice maker tubing. Very nice and easy to set up. Hardest part was needing a carbide bit to drill through the stainless sink, though.

I'd say nuke the water first then add the jelly so you wont cook the honey or yuzu too much keeping more of the nutrients. Have warm water rather than very hot to do the melting. Yeah, this Yuzu drink is expensive if you compare it to just tea. It's like a special drink for special occasions.

@@BeatTheBush Yeah, that's what I did. 30 seconds with just the water to melt it. I've done it with seltzer before too, but I didn't even realize restaurants sold it, I just kind of winged it. My price on the East Coast is about $8-9 a jar, so...

Cool product but eating stuff that's been heated in plastic is probably not good for health. 😐

There are all different types of plastics. The plastics used in these heating type hotpots is made specifically for food grade use. I'd be more worried about the preservatives used in the actual products you eat in the meal.
