Created in 1791, the trail was covered by patrols of customs officers - hence its name - responsible for preventing any smuggling. To keep an eye on trafficking and looting of wrecks, they crisscrossed the coasts night and day, whatever the weather: think about it when your legs are begging for mercy! Having fallen into disuse at the beginning of the 20th century, the trail enjoyed a second life from 1968, when a few enthusiasts decided to make it a hiking trail.
For more than 2000 km, from Mont-Saint-Michel to the Saint-Nazaire bridge, it winds along the Breton coastline. Telling off its red and white marks like a little thumb, it offers whoever comes to survey it the breath of the open sea and breathtaking views of the sea.
