Jeremy Knudsen Someone mentioned this on Twitter, so I’ll just use the same reply: Didn't really wanna cover something that A) is fairly similar to something I already covered (Aggressors) and B) I don't have any imagery for, it makes the editing feel really cheap imo, which is why I tend to avoid it
Personally, I always thought the sentinels way were too weak to be the Forrunners primary offense against the Flood, I always thought they were some security program designed at most to take care of small infections (especially because we only really see them go into "suicidal horde mode" in Halo Wars) I was personally hoping to see a more proper military branch of the sentinels, with anti-flood, anti-personal, anti-ship, spec ops, and other more specialized variants with the Prometheans. But then I played Halo 4 and was a little disappointed that they just weird humans 😂. I would still love to see a more fleshed out 'traditional' style Sentinel style military force
My Dude, you also forgot about Sentinel battle formations and how they can construct newer entities. Dr. Halsey in the book the [ghost of Onyx] about Midway through, compares the Sentinels to "Tinker Toys". In which it is witnessed, as the more of them that combine together, the more forms they can take. Although there is no visual representation of this, I feel it is worth noting since it is Sentinel related. Thanks. -A old lore master.
That’s a good point, and we do have a semi-visualisation of this from Origins, but it’s with the Dragoons which I was going to cover but I decided against it because they aren’t technically Sentinels
TheKillerPill l Well Ghosts of Onyx was pretty specific about how the Onyx Sentinels were *very* unique, and how no other sentinel type has been seen doing anything remotely like the Onyx Sentinels. In regards to this, if all Sentinels could do the formations, why would the Retriever Sentinel be necessary?
@@TmanTheTdog , I feel like there are thousands of undiscovered forerunner installations that may have these type of Sentinels. Many of those installations haven't been found yet, this is just a known isolated incident for now. In regards to the retriever Sentinel, it is more of a Strict Sentinel of combat and design Rather than the Onyx Sentinels flexible and adaptable designs. The reason why we don't see much of the Onyx Sentinels anymore I believe is because of new story Management[343]. Also perhaps regular signals would be too powerful if they could just combine enough and overwhelm opponents. Anyhow, hope this helps. Sorry if this is a lot of conjuncture but the story writers of the current Halo franchise haven't flushed this out yet or have forgotten about it.
Theory: the Retriever Sentinel which attacked Earth (which is 500 meters) is already a mega-retriever sentinel, and the ones we see in HW2 are the base line ones. Retriever sentinels, like the Onyx Sentinels, can simply combine multiple times over.
So about that last sentinel, there's a mod for a game called sins of a sollar empire which is a total halo conversion mod called Sins of the Prophets. That giant sentinel appears at portals which can be used to jump around the current system you're in and well, let's just say it can 1 shot anything that isn't a capital ship.
We never got to see this in the games, but there were supposed to be animals stored on the rings in self-sustaining ecosystems. According to the lore, the flood used this biomass to make their Gravemind.
@@SoldiersDoingThings try to replicate the cure created by Ancient humanity? (althought is revealed that there wasn't any cure the flood simply ignored the humans because they wanted to kill only the forerunners wich unfortunately for them they didn't know that)
I've been watching alot of your stuff just today, the worst things oni has done, scariest storys of flood, the elite design and how the old classic design should come back as well as classic forerunner [Seriously, Epitaph is a fucking beautiful map.] Subscribed!
The final Sentinal you covered was surrounded by Retriever Sentinals, and they seemed like a bug to it, so i’m assuming this thing is *H U G E* and the fact it’s beam can be seen from space, with a massive explosion, we can assume this is a beast.
For naming that big boy Sentinel at the end, i think following the naming convention of the other Sentinels would help. You have the Aggressor, the Enforcer, Assembler, Retriever, etc. So, considering this Sentinel's role as a large-scale war machine, and having a name that ends in "er/or", i think something like Eradicator would work nicely.
I really really hope we see Enforcers back, I'd love to think that's the thing we saw in the water in the trailer but we can't know for sure. As for 117649 I don't remember *exactly* but I'm pretty sure Tragic Solitude mentions something about it going missing in Hunters in the Dark, I might be wrong though, been like 3 years since I read the book lol
@@HiddenXperia ok, I haven't read Hunters In The Dark, all I knew was that, like other monitors, he wasn't found by Humanity. Also if we do I hope there's an IWHBYD Skull easter egg where the monitor is introduced as 117649 Fucking Lightbulb as a reference to the Halo 2 Developers Commentary
in Halo 2 the Sentinels with the gold armor were called Sentinel Majors, if it was mentioned in games i forget but its mentioned in the in game files i believe. the weapon was also referred to as the super sentinel beam even though picking it up only says sentinel beam.
I think in the interest of the naming scheme of the Sentinels, seeing as we saw that last big sentinel rise from the city, I’d presume it’s some type of last-line-of-defense type of thing, so i like “Warden Sentinel” or “Guardian Sentinel” (tho I suppose Guardian Sentinel could be confusing with Forerunner Guardians...)
Imagine a Flood Containment game, where you play as a monitor on an installation that had a containment breach, and it's your job to try and stem the flood outbreak.
While forerunner tech was very effective, once the flood was big enough to infect it with the logic plague, sentinels became a lot less useful to have. This was the entire reason for the (late) development if the Prometheans who were theoretically better protected from the logic plague
Logic plague and improving flood tactics began to outpace the sentinels. Prometheans were designed to be both immune to logic plague and infection since they were both organic and inorganic. At the same time each individual unit was faster and smarter than sentinels
Jessa Milia I thought the Prometheans were the Didact’s solution to fighting the flood in which the Librarian didn’t approve of since it needed humans to grow the army? And my answer to the original question is that although the Forunners had all these sentinel types, the flood became too strong during the forunner-flood war, in ways which have never been shown ingame and stronger than we could imagine. We only were given a peek at their strongest point in Halo Legends Origins when they were assimilating Forunner structures, AI, and already had ungodly amounts of biomass not to mention growing even more after touching down on that Forunner planet. Overall the sentinels still exist for any new flood outbreak, at least they aren’t at the strength they were before the Halos originally fired. Still, it is strange to see that even the minor outbreaks that we’ve played through in the Halo games (Minor compared to the Major outbreak in legends, so it shouldn’t be taken lightly either), the sentinels still cannot combat against it.
Question: is their a Sentinel variant that destroys the "Parasite" that is my Math Homework? Because I can really use one of those right now lol! 😂😂😂😂😂 But this video was super amazing! My favorite Sentinel variant would have to be the Retriever. It's so large and is really cool! I hope we see it in a main line Halo game someday!!!! :)
@DarkStarEthan hopefully they do eventually green lit the pitch, I think the community would really like the idea of space battles, especially the pc community
Maybe a long time in the future, but I highly doubt it’s happening any time soon. Maybe Blizzard’s renewed attempt at getting RTS games back to the top in esports could help spur on HW3 if successful but I’m not hopeful
How much you wanna bet there are many other types of Sentinels that we've yet to see. Like a medical sentinel, an observer sentinel, a miner sentinel, a sentinel spy, etc.
I would love to see a Sentinel that's designed to cleanse an entire planet- just a massive drone with an enormous f**k-off laser big enough to take out a planet-wide outbreak of Flood. That makes for an interesting mental picture.
10:35 personally im guessing its probably a mix between a orbital lazer cannon and just an average sentinel, in other words its probably a self-controlled big dramatic OP gun that moves like an oversized drone
yeah missed the protector sentinels from Halo Wars. 3 variants: one is capable of enhancing the combat abilities of a paired unit, another heals a paired unit, and the third provides an energy shield to a paired unit.
Anyone else notice during the first mission in halo reach when you are on the pelican for the last time in that mission Jorge and Carter may look at you but when you look at them they look away
So in summary. ●Aggressor Sentinel. ●Cap. Aggressor Sentinel. ●Protector; Offensive, Medic, Shield. ●Constructor. ●Super Sentinel. ●Enforcer. ●Retreiver. ●Guardian. Super Sentinels only appeared in Halo wars 1 & 2, Anders use them in Multiplayer and they appear in campaing.
Alright, the flood got out. I only see the agressors currently, so I should be fine. *THE BIG BOIS HAVE BEEN RELEASED* Well, fuc- **Screaming as One infecty boi latches on**
What about composers from the books? I think they fit in the category of "combating the flood" by composing any biomass in an attempt to save the souls of those composed from becoming subject to the flood.
I also think Enforcers have a diffrent role other than Gravemind containment given their armaments that are more designed to take out machinery than biological forms. I think Enforcers are designed to destroy forerunner machines that have been corrupted due to flood outbreak. 2401 Penitent Tangent was taken over by the Gravemind which signaled for Enforcer activation. They were sent to free and if necessarily destroy 2401 if the corruption could not be purged.
Don't give up hope, we might actually get to aim that giant particle sentinel. 343 is probably going to feel like matching ID for letting the DOOMSLAYER fire the BFG 10000, and if ID doesn't there's a failure to deliver.
1:02 Holy god that'd be an awesome plot device. Board a sentinel factory, have a smaller mission there, while you travel to another part of the ring on it.
I remember in one of the halo books there was a type of sentinel that did melee combat. It was smaller than other sentinels and is slit a scientists throat. There was only one of them though. I forget which book, but it was one where humanity went back to the arc.
You forgot to mention the halo wars 1 sentinel troop support. 1. Troop healer 2. Offensive support 3. Shielding unit The joy of giving a Spartan a shield and a scorpion a shield and joinging them to make a double shield tank (or any other combination wanted)
