This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Brian Kessler, founder and president of Maui Toys, discusses how inventing toys has lead to his life of innovation through creation.
Brian Kessler, founder and president of Maui Toys, is a prolific inventor who applied for his first patent in high school and has designed and developed more than 2,600 toys, sporting goods and consumer products.
As an inventor, marketer and creator of intellectual property, Brian is also a successful serial entrepreneur. He owns and operates six companies engaged in power generation, transportation, entertainment, product design and development. Brian founded Maui Toys in 1988 and sold it to Jakks Pacific, the third-largest toy company in the world in 2012.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

What a great video. Makes me happy to see you carry on the great legacy of your dad. Congratulations. For years I have submitted many fresh new ideas to the major toy companies but they all seem stuck in a mindset of just re-hashing great innovations that were created in the distant past. As a minority individual, trying to get venture capital under how it is currently structured (Of the over $140 billion dollars allotted out yearly less than 1% goes to minority startups.) makes it nearly impossible to bring our ideas to market for all the toy buyers to enjoy while the mega toy companies capitalize over this great disadvantage that we have in this case. Hopefully things will change somewhere down the road. You seem like a down to earth kind of guy and I honestly wish you continued success. You dad would surely be proud of your accomplishment. Toy fans who want respectful inclusion from the companies that we give our dollars to please check out MGA Entertainment’s (Toy company) own RU-vid promotional video entitled ‘Welcome to MGA Entertainment’. Notice the stark lack of diversity of their management and their employees. The color scale represented is light cream color skin to lighter yet this company has profited billions from the minority demographic. Please read comment section of that video. Thanks.

"Take something that already exists and make it bounce" isn't innovation or creation. How embarrassing to true inventors.
