I have a lot of differing opinions about this card. First, it is not a circus. It's a battle encampment. Who steals swords from a circus? And even if someone decided to steal swords from a circus, how is that any way of representing the 5 of swords? That would mean almost nothing to a circus. They don't depend on swords in order to operate, so that would not represent the deeply inflicting wound this card is capable of. Swords are very important, however, to a battle encampment while at war and someone stealing their swords would deeply affect them. His shirt is very close in color to the land on which the encampment sits. Yellow with dingy orange. This suggests to me that he is actually from that land. His attire does not resemble the tents in any way, except for red. I believe red is representative of the Devil card to me. His behavior towards the encampment is in the realm of the Devil. He is also walking across a stage, which implies he is acting or putting on a show. I believe in this card's core, he is charading as one of the encampment's men in order to steal their supplies to take back to his people and give them a better chance of protecting their land. And he is doing it while the men are distracted, toward the back of the card, around a campfire. This card, to me, is about making decisions and actions that are out of character in order to protect your own interests. Even if it means betraying your morals and using under-handed tactics like thievery or betrayal.

Best interpretation I've ever heard for this card. The yellow background has always made me feel, as though most people interpret it unfairly in a strictly negative sense, although that is the beauty of tarot, the different interpretations that each person has.

I have to say I never knew what this card meant. I kept getting it over and over again regarding a relationship that I had . Wondering about this person returning and yes you’re very right this person was a soulmate it just rings true everything that you’ve said this is the first time I’ve understood this card you have the right interpretation that’s for sure. Seems like everybody else on RU-vid has the wrong interpretation of this card or only they’re able to give a sliver of a perspective and that’s of the deceptive nature of this card. Unfortunately, the whole truth I never had and could not flatly except mere deception. Thank you again for you intricate explanation.

I absolutely feel the same way. Just looking at this card I always felt there was much more going on than what the traditional tarot books and readers online give as interpretation. This FINALLY explains ALL aspects of this card and the true depth it has. As in life, sneaking around always has a deeper reason, and depending on the other cards in the reading, it can have a quite different meaning. Romeo and Juliet were sneaking around, but they truly loved each other. They had to sneak away from tradition and the circus of their lives to be able to love.

A footman takes away the power of the knights who are preparing for battle. It shows hierarchy in a company, a family, a group. Abuse of trust in brought daylight. You Will lose energy because of the deception caused by a simple person.

I had 7 of swords,knight of wands, 8 of pentacles (had my first reading by a friend) Then 7 of the swords upside down (different day and different tarot card reader accidentally picked up a deck of tarot cards while moving them aside looked flipped it over bam) Then 5 of swords after (I had same person from second incident pull a card for me another day)

I just wanna keep going. He’s the deepest love I’ve ever had so far, but not the best love that there will ever be. He’s hurt me too much. Why should I give that man a new piece of me to slice open? No, little Laura is safe and protected by adult Laura. Fiercely loved and guarded. I glare at anyone that I don’t fully trust. I know he is a hurt man, a scared man. I SEE through all of it- that’s who I fell for. But the trauma damage someone has and spreads before healed is very real.

I have never understood this card this way but i had a question always in my mind why the background is in yellow if it is a deceptive person. Now i understood the person is not a bad person but his time isn't running good. He needs healing. That's why he is indecisive

so possibly in the last relationship they were in they were deceived. not treated the way they were supposed to be treated. this is why they want to and feel the need to sneak and leave and come towards the querent.

Means he isn't being completely honest with you.. Doesn't have to mean cheating look for other cards to indicate that.. Also it can mean your not being completely honest either.. If this come out for you what would it mean? Your running away from someone or something? Your not being honest to whatever your running towards?

7 of swords is the thief card. PERIOD. Also along with other swords. If you're doing this reading on a person and you get this card constantly with other swords like the knight rx. And he IS a sociopath masquerading as an empath and has a victim mentality. Also could mean they're spying IE hacking, spyware on your device.

There is no such thing as "this is the only meaning of this card" in tarot. Period. If you think so, you have a good bit of learning to do about the tarot. Start with the history books.

You need to remember too, the meaning of the card changes a bit depending on the surrounding cards... Also depending on the situation you're asking about ontop of it. Also, if you read A.E. Waites interpretation, the keyword meanings are fairly positive for 7 of swords. The suit of swords is all about mental and communication. F.Y.I
