Edit: I wrote this thinking that this was the theme to The Basement, when in fact that is Below Consciousness. Man, I remember how unnerved and freaked out I felt when I was in this area. Like every second was another step towards my death, an inevitable march towards damnation. Light spoilers ahead, nothing major though. When I was in this area, I had some time to really think. There was no one here to save, usually your on two timers, one till the day resets and one to save the guest(s). Here, you just had the first. Your only timer was when the day ended, but that gives you time to think as you solve these weird puzzles in rooms that make little sense, especially in such a place. You take at least a few time ps to solve this area, so it really gives you a lot of time to think in. To start to realize... you can't save them all. Now, you might of come to this conclusion before, but here it hits you. You start to realize what kind of game this is really, that at most you could save a few of them if you make like hell. You could squeeze 2 and 3 easily into most attempts to save everybody... except they're literally in the corner of the map. You could maybe get 2 3 4 and 5, if you start in the right spot. But, you can't get everyone. Some need highly sensitive timings to save them. 1 and 5 are practically impossible to save together anyway. The point is that, in this game all about managing time, you feel rushed and pressured by the threats of the guest deaths to solve as fast as possible. Most guest I saved after threeish loops, and I usually studied the situation as much as possible, sometimes something involved in a completely different guest would distract me and cause me to waste another loop just exploring the mansion, complete unrelated to who I was trying to save. Sorry, diversion there, like I said, in game that does wonderful at making and endless time loop feel fast, a moment to think can really allow you to retrospect about the game itself. It doesn't help that many of the puzzles in this area are nonsensical and seemingly don't line up with any of the others, basically allowing you to just try whatever over and over while letting your brain finally focus on the ridicules situation your in. How did that spider get that big? Wtf voodoo? Sopranos doesn't work that way. No way that guy is really that strong. What the hell is behind that "door"!? You start doubting everything. Why is time looping like this? It just seemed at first because of that watch, right? But it's not some sort of wibbly wobbly timey wimey tinkertech! Is it magic? This time is used to make your own thoughts set up the big reveal. And. It. Works. Perfectly.
