Thank you for this! I've read so many guides that keep using so much fighting game terminology it might as well be written in hieroglyphs. This was very helpful for me who never really played fighting games before.
I do wonder what Capcom would do if the SF community wasn't as keen to be creative and teach more people the game. there'd be no new players and they wouldn't get the three or so years it took to "fix" the original release.
Just bought the game at the same time with a friend. We both have little knowledge about the game overall even though we've been playing different street fighters. This guide, is probably the best guide I've found. Pretty easy to understand everything you've said for foreign speakers.
Hi MetalMusicMan, This is the best explanation of the subject matter I've seen so far from any source because the presentation supports the commentary exceptionally well! I've shared your video with many Facebook groups and Liked it as well as Favorited it. I'm going to watch part two now.
This video is INSANELY helpful. I have never really tried to get into any fighting games, so I really have no knowledge of them. I started to get a lot of interest in them and want to pick up SFV soon
Haven't played SF5 and still playing USF4 here in my country and I looked everywhere for decent guides and whatnot and you, my friend, are a blessing to new players and ones trying to improve. Thank you so much for your videos.
I actually just decided to get SFVCE and I know literally nothing about the system, thanks for your tutorial videos (part 1-2) cause I’m watching it now before I start playing the game. Very helpful ♥️🙏🏼
One of the best videos I've seen covering beginner tactics and fundamentals. I'm just getting into SFV and this has helped me a lot. One suggestion would be just to slow down your voice a little bit.
Thanks -- I did talk a bit too fast on the SFV one (compared to the SF4 one). I think I was rushing a bit to keep the total time down, haha. Will keep an eye on that :)
I fucking hate it when fighting games themselves dont explain jack shit about the game. Then they wonder why people drop the games after a few matches when the tutorials are as barebones as possible. Heck, even SFV doesnt explain one of its most helpful systems properly and some, not at all. What a goddamn disgrace. The people who were responsible for the tutorials should just be fired. Anywhoo, good to see that atleast some people are willing to do other peoples work propely.
thanks for the vid. After getting pretty decent in SF4, I refused to migrate to the new game and new console. Well, sad say the USF4 online console community is almost dead. So my PS4 and RZR stick are arriving tonight!!! CAN'T WAIT
The whole point of a beginners guide is to use terminology that a beginner would understand, I'm not sure why there is not more videos like this, the game isn't hard to explain, just time consuming. Keep up the good work man, useful even for someone who's been playing the other SF games like myself, didn't know about some of the counter stuff, thanks a lot!
+Vincenti dela Fuente hey I appreciate the comment, thanks! I agree that people often don't really target beginners with their content, despite saying it's "for beginners" :)
Darkswords14 same here! I was a 3rd strike and SF4 player but now that championship edition is out I picked it up. Can’t wait to get into it more in my local scene!
I play tekken where punishing is the name of the game in sf its different so this was helpful. Still confused about light medium and hard kicks and punches. But when I learn the basics of attacking this will be fun.
Great guide, hopefully you'll have time to adjust some points to the changes of Season 2 (2017). Dragon punches for example are no longer invincible in their default form, only the EX versions are invincible now.
Is this guide still relevant? Considering it still seems to be the go to guide 4 years later? Edit to answer my own question: Yes. This guide is seriously excellent.
Happy to still be of service ☺️ the main things that are different now are EX Reversals being required for invincibility and then the new characters/vtriggers. The base systems are all the same otherwise tho so yes it's almost entirely still applicable.
BoBoY it’s fun, but matchmaking is terrible. It takes a long time for me to get a matchup and from what I’ve read it’s not just me. ButI don’t recommend going online itfp if you’re new to fighting games, because you will get stomped and/or learn bad habits, because you are trying to keep up instead applying the fundamentals. I’m focusing on those offline first now.
I’m actually on my third watch of this video simply because of that background music. Could I ask what track that is? Edit: I found it. It’s the Main Menu theme from the beta, and it’s also called as such in game.
Great guide man! I wish something as easy to understand as this existed back when SF IV was released so i didn't have to learn everything via trail and error :/
does this work for street fighter alpha 3 max? because I don't even understand the different fighting style/modes because I don't see any difference between them
I know this vid is old but can somebody explain to me why m.bison can perform that jumping attack where he hits with both feet at 4:38 Are you not supposed to walk back for 1 second to perform that attack?
The game always counts you as holding back when you are holding it, it doesn't count the act of walking, just the fact that you're holding back. So since I'm holding back to charge during the st.HK and the st.HP, I am able to cancel into Scissor Kick.
Is this still relevant for the current version of the game? Lord knows competitive games love to have reworks, and I know SFV has had at least a few big changes
Since this is all general gameplay and not character specific, it's all very relevant. The only major difference is that you need to spend EX Meter to make any reversals invulnerable (such as Shoryuken), and the newer mechanics of V-Shift and V-Trigger 2 that are not covered here.
Hi so im thinking of buying this game would you recommend it to someone new to the scene? Im not big on fighting games but since i watched capcum cup i cant stop watching it and i kinda want to buy it(PC) but im not sure if its just a good game for die hard fighting games fans or if it can really be enjoyed by a newbie, and also is it just worth it if you buy it with the fight stick? cuz i feel that with a keyboard it would be really uncomfortable. thanks for any answers
Depending on your playstyle, SFV is either the most beginner friendly SF or the least beginner friendly SF. It does not reward zoning/spacing/lame play or reactionary play nearly as much as SF4 or SF2, but it DOES make comboing much easier than both of those games, which to some makes it easier to pick up. Regardless, it's the most popular and played/active fighting game right now, so you should play it if you're wanting to get into fighting games.
Crush Counters happen when you counter-hit the opponent with a specific heavy attack. All Crush Counters are heavy attacks, but not every heavy attack your character has is a Crush Counter. Most characters have 3 or 4 Heavy Attacks that are considered Crush Counters, for instance, Ryu's standing Hard Punch, standing Hard Kick, and crouching Hard Kick are Crush Counters.
So with crush counters, how do I initiate them? Is it similar to normal counters, where the opponent has to be caught attacking, only I have to throw out a heavy punch or kick?
+ReMeDy yes, exact same thing. Not all heavy attacks are crush counters, but all crush counters are heavy attacks. Your character probably has 2 or 3 heavy normals that crush counter (one of them might be a command normal). Also remember that if you block an invincible special attack like Shoryuken, you get the crush counter for free when they land :)
+Greentoad64 do you mean for knockdowns? If so you can press any two Punch buttons just as you land to tech in-place or any two Kick buttons just as you land to back-roll tech. So right when you hit the ground you just press "Light Punch + Medium Punch" for instance and you will tech in place. Could also press LP+HP or MP+HP, or even all three punches. Doesn't matter which two you press. If you are asking about EX Moves, i.e. if you are doing a Fireball with Ryu, it's down, down-forward, forward, and then any punch button. So to do an EX Fireball, you would do down, down-forward, forward, and Light Punch + Medium Punch simultaneously. Could also do MP+HP or LP+HP, doesn't matter which two you press.
It takes practice and patience. Make sure that you are playing to learn; always be thinking about what you can improve, how you are doing it wrong, and how you can do it better.
Mostly all still applies, the one big difference is invincible reversals require EX meter now to be invincible. Other than that the basics are the same.
@@MetalMusicMan ok thanks! Been learning 30th anniv over the past couple weeks but got 5 two days ago and I'm trying to get the intricacies of each game memorized
Can some one who plays this game on a PS4 controller send me a message I’ve been trying to play this game for a long time now and can’t get the timing down idk what to do anymore... my psn is NoiselessDrop
not everyone is new to street fighter but they change the game over time not a guide for me sorry try a tutorial that goes from street fighter 2 basics are simple with play time
