I just finished reading all 4 volumes of BOTNS and was pretty damn blown away. I’m also coming from a pomo literature background and found it to be right up my alley, all despite the fact that I’m not a big fantasy fan in general. I feel like I missed a good portion of what was actually going on during my read through and will definitely be rereading it soon.
That’s cool to hear that it’s consistently good throughout, I haven’t read a fantasy series in so long, it’s very refreshing but also those familiar post modern elements make me feel right at home. Which is your favorite of the 3?
@@offthewallnovels1292 The final volume, Citadel of the Autarch, really brought it all home and nailed it perfectly for me. But I did also really like the second volume, Claw of the Conciliator. Honestly you kinda have to read all 4 to have actually read BOTNS, it’s truly a single story end to end.
I'm reading it now: it's very literary science fiction/fantasy. I'm constantly googling the odd and archaic words he weaves in, particularly enjoying the obscure ancient animals that pop up in a story that I'm assuming is far future.
i reckon Gulliver's Travels and Robinson Crusoe and maybe the Odyssey would be good precursors for the BOtNS. i also would mention The Glass Bead Game and Anathem. Severian unwinds his memoir like a future history in a very linear fashion, although there are many asides and he has an eidetic memory that he resorts to at times and there are certain beasts with glands... you might like A Voyage to Arcturus for some real hallucinatory prose to unravel. did you continue on the hard road?
Nice job on all the lighting and audio. I enjoy some of the synth background and a few months back you showed it in an intro. I assume it’s yours. Cool stuff 👍
Yes! Thanks so much. Yeah, eurorack has turned into my new favorite hobby, it’s so fun twisting knobs and making robot sounds. Thanks for check out the channel!
Finished this last year. The collection I read had a fifth book? The first three though, all written together before publishing, are fantastic. The tone and voice changes significantly after that, for obvious reasons, but I found the entire experience quite intriguing. I'll save myself for a marriage with your future commentary. I'm excited to hear your reaction to the rest!
