This is the story of Jen Shah, who operated a nationwide telemarketing scam that targeted vulnerable and elderly people for ten years, before getting caught while appearing on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
Apologies for this being up late- there were issues regarding copyright.

@@joycedominguez8997 Because this isn't TV? The general format of delivering video and audio is not what is being discussed here. Sure, it a form of content similar to TV, and if it only featured the kind of programming you'd see in TV/cable, then I would consider it the same. For that matter, if TV offered the kind of choice and quality I can find on RU-vid, then I wouldn't have got rid of it. Pretending RU-vid and TV are the same is like pretending a prison chow hall and a fine steak house are the same because they both serve food. Not saying everything on YT is a fine steak, there is LOADS of prison chow on here too, but I never have to see it. And the few good things on TV you can often find here as well. Thus further eliminating the need for TV. At this point I've found more quality channels than I have time to watch, and I'm a house husband that has all day to watch if I so choose.

And in turn with time ,society at large becomes noticeably more horrible, too, as it tries to emulate the ppl in these shows.

@@NASkeywest But the OP did not say that the person who stole was given anywhere near the same amount of time for the crime. In fact, given, it is technically a felony. Felonies in most jurisdictions that I am aware of have a minimum of one year prison time. And the OP said, "over a year in prison". This suggests that it may have been under 18 months. All this suggest to me that the person caught in question received a minimal amount of time for the crime. But the OP seem to infer that the thief should have received little to no time in prison at all. I was not there for the trial or sentencing. So not know if the defendant could have received lesser time (or even parole) if the defendant may have been more contrite about the crime (the OP did not suggest that it was a wrongful conviction); had a better lawyer; or had a lenient judge. My bottom line is that while I concur that the con artist should have a greater conviction for her crime, the thief should not go unpunished.

@@elvingearmasterirma7241 Some good points, that being said as the second poster pointed, the US got it from somewhere (UK) so it is not just the US. My point is that I'm not sure if traditional cultural divides impact it much by now. Would ZA traditionally just call it corruption? I bet so. As Bono once joke comparing Ireland vs US "In America you see a huge house on a hill and you say "One day I will have a house just like it!". In Ireland we see a huge house on a hill and you say "I'm gonna kill that f*cker!"." But today, after the "Celtic Tiger" boom is that anything more than a dated cultural "tic" without any actual policy influence? Probably the same with ZA. One can talk a big deal of ubuntu, but all busines and policy is more uGordonGekko. This has transcended ideologies, as seen by the economics-based oil-based poluting policy of the Socialist Party rule policy of Venezuela. It is just gangster's economics, and all our nations are in on it. Sure, non-US/UK complain by cultural bias a lot, but they still do it. On a related mere hypothetical question, can lobbying exist at all without being corrupt by default? I lean no myself but am not a specialist on it myself and my experience has taught me that good results have more to do with checks-and-balances laws than with idea(l)s imposing x.

I'd love to see you cover how truly shady, and repulsive, Angela from 90DF is. Including her charges with her daughter over SA of a MINOR in her home up to and including her ab use (verbal, emotional, sexual, and financial) against her husband Michael! Between this woman, and big PrEd, are the reasons I've completely boycotted TLC from my home!

It is very distressing to me that people could look upon the behavior flaunted in these shows with anything other than complete contempt and repulsion. I know many fans will claim to be "hate watching" or something like that, but even so... Don't watch this crap y'all. It's not okay.

Apollo on RHOA was an ex-con married to Phaedra, an attorney. He married Phaedra after getting out of prison for fraud. During the show he claimed he had a business, but would never give any details. Sure enough, he was arrested and convicted of... fraud. Of course.

She was always sk sketch. I know Utah is cheap is shit, but the way she was spending is how actually true rich people live on the east and west coast. You can't have a 3 million net worth and live in a multimillion dollar home and spend money the way she did. Thats not how money works. I grew up in Greenwich CT, where everyone in town is old old money going back since then states was founded in some families cases. Actual wealthy people are very low key and don't live like that
