Don’t be. Even when rhe Sharks were good they were notorious for getting teams back on track. I swear to god they would hold the record for most times helping another team snap a 5+ game losing streak.
A rebuild that we've been talking about is going through for like 5 years. We've been absolute dog water since we made it to the cup finals. We gambled and it didn't pay off and now we're paying the price of that and inaction to actually do what needed to be done.
Truth! I'm a Rangers fan in SF and I'm going to the Rangers-Sharks game in January and scored a very cheap ticket that would easily be three times the cost in NYC!
So long as the check clears lmao, ride the pain train all the way to the bank. I'm sure he'll cry himself to sleep driving his sports car to his mansion.
@Lonestarr022 no that was Karlsson contract that screwed the Sharks plus Vlasic’s and Couture’s deals did not help either. As great as Doug Wilson was he gave out a lot of questionable contracts.
@@Lonestarr022 We have 40 Mill in Cap and 3 First rounder next season, the year after we have 60-70 Mill in Cap. with the cap rising probably around 80
Thanks Eck for covering the team. Feels like it was yesterday watching the Sharks play with my dad on a school night. I’m yet to witness them win the cup and this season definitely shows how rough it is when the team can’t quite find the magic. As fans we just gotta keep our heads up and show our support through the good times and bad.
@@AustenHiltonBro he knows & that's what he's saying too! It's bcuz of the Sharks goalie unreal game that Avs game with his saves. Avs was shooting the puck at his ass sooo many times & he blocked everything! He had one of the best games ever in his career lol.
Pens are going down. Ideal scenario is we get their unprotected pick in 2025. I think it'll be higher and it'll give us a better chance at Michael Misa.
I'm a Lightning fan, and I gotta hand one thing to the Sharks: They played that game so poorly that I'm actually more interested in their upcoming games than I am in the Lightning's. How long will the trainwreck continue? I can't look away.
The thing that’s hilarious to me is that in our first game of the season, the opener was “What was once a rebuild is now just a build” and I’m like, we still have a long way to go.
As a sharks fan I was telling everyone before the season even started how bad we were gonna be. Now that’s it’s happening I can’t even be upset lol, genuinely interested to see how many games we win this year. With the sharks luck though we could go the whole year without winning a game and still lose the draft lottery 💀
I'm a detroit born wings fan, but i'm living around SJ so i try to watch their games in the evening after the wings games are over. The first few games were not terrible. I was actually surprised with how well they played up until about the third period of each game. But at that point the wheels would fall off. They even went to OT vs the avs. But since then its been an absolute disaster lmao.
@@lukerlunker i dont remember the exact breakdown but the avs were peppering shots on net in the 3rd period. I wouldnt be surprised if they got 20+ shots in the 3rd+ot. Regardless, the sharks did play pretty well for 2/3's of the game like i said.
As a Sharks fan, I knew the team would be near unwatchable after trading Erik Karlsson, but WOW! I did not think they would be THIS BAD. Having said that though, this is what happens when a team is rebuilding, and the Sharks really had no choice after Doug Wilson stepped down. Hopefully there are brighter days ahead in the future.
Yeah, teams can pressure everywhere around our net because we have 0 blue liners capable of skating or passing out of the zone. I’m hopeful that some of our prospects will materialize. Cagnoni, Havelid, Mukhamadullin, Gawanke…all capable puck carriers and passers.
@@PulsingKrugotvoidit was probably an intentional move, there might be some solid prospects who are 16/17 right now and the sharks scouted them figure get good position to get shots at a young star player
I grew up by the cow palace (sharks birthplace). And I just recently got into 🏒 hockey. Always been a diehard 49ers, giants and warriors fan. They are really successful franchises. I really enjoy being a fan for an underdog team; makes it that much sweeter when they win the Stanley . I know the sharks will be a true force to be reckoned with in the near future. 🦈 like the warriors back in early 2010.
I would love to see some coverage on the Andrei Svechnikov "interference" penalty called with 9:42 left in the 1st period. Completely clean hit, contact was made immediately after the puck left the guys stick, probably the most brutal call so far of the season that I've seen. Referees can't be calling shit like that and nothing can be done about it and no repercussions for something that can be game changing.
This all started years ago when Doug Wilson gave out so many ridiculous long-term contracts to players who simply didn't merit them. Then there was no money to keep several of the good young players coming up through the system so we lost them too. Now the farm system is empty and there is no one left as trade bait. From an ex Sharks season ticket holder who sees they are going to be really bad for a really long time.
The farm system isn’t really empty anymore. Most analysts have their current prospect pool around the 7-12 range. Grier, to his credit, has really improved the depth. The real issue imo is that JMac is a garbage coach. They need a good coach for the Cuda yesterday.
Yup I totally agree its all Doug Wilson's fault dat San Jose is really bad for bringing in EK65 to the bay area. His contract jst sunk San Jose to the bottom.
As a Sharks fan and a student at Boston University I am fucking loving life right now. Every loss makes me more confident we'll get the #1 pick, and every BU game gets me more excited about Celebrini. The guy is fucking legit, literally one of if not the best player on the team as a 17 year old it's insane lol.
Yep, people forget that Crosby was scouted when he was like 15, the penguins planned how they would tank and they tanked HARD a few years in a row to get that bottom spot and now look at Pittsburgh probably top 5 franchise now
I went to a sharks home game this season because I am a huge fan of them. They had a 3-2 lead over the Canes going into the 3rd period. Look up the score of that game. All I feel is pain when I watch them play.
Here's some fun facts. As I write this, SJS is 0-10-1, with 12 GF, and 55 GA in 11 games. As a team, they have scored only one more goal than TOR's Auston Matthews, by himself (11 goals in 11 games). They dropped their last two games, allowing 10 goals in each. The last time a team allowed 10+ goals in back to back games was the 1965 Bruins. They have the second longest winless streak to start the season in NHL history, with the 1943/44 Rangers having the #1 spot with a 15 game winless streak.
Honestly, I feel bad for the Sharks, I remember when they used to usually always be up contenders and would always make the playoffs, it’s insane how one offseason can change EVERYTHING. Donskoi to the Avs, Pavelski to the Stars, Tierny to the Sens, and so many others. Sad, just sad
Imagine if another team ends up with the 1st overall pick. Macklin Celebrini (who is now a freshman at Boston University) is the likely top overall pick. Macklin's father also works in the Bay Area, for the Warriors.
Eck, as a fellow Ranger's fan, you may appreciate this. I HATED Quinn when he was the head coach. They had Ruff, a future hall of fame head coach who is currently number 5 on the list of all time wins for a head coach, and someone who made it in the NHL as a player as an assistant coach. Then they go an hire someone with no NHL head coaching experience. Outside of taking Chytil under his wing, Quinn did nothing for the franchise. He was an awful choice who never should have been considered for the job. Now he's in San Jose and they suck. I'm not surprised.
I'm amazed there are fans still coming... If Winnipeg and Buffalo are struggling to keep fans, even though they're pretty good/up and coming, I can't imagine the attendance woes that will come from this...
Love seeing all of these videos about the Sharks being one of the worst teams in NHL history just a handful of games into the season. When now a month later they aren't even the worst team in the NHL with the Blackhawks and Ducks looking worse. And over the last few weeks have been playing better hockey than the vast majority of the league. Despite the fact that their last 11 games have come against playoff caliber teams including some of the top teams in the NHL and they are still 6-3-2 over those 11 games.
Here's the thing though. They're only down 4 pts from a wildcard spot. Picture whenever it's late in the season, being down only 4 pts wouldn't seem like too much. We're being quick to judge, though we're aware the line up isn't deep on paper. Being just 4 pts out though, they just have to get going now, at a slightly above *.500* win percentage. I'm not a Sharks fan btw.
They lost their next two games 10-1 and 10-2 respectively. As a Sharks fan, I'm no longer saying "it's gonna be a long season," but instead "this too shall pass"
Coming from a sharks fan, I think the team has been cursed ever since Erik Karlsson scored that hand pass goal against St Louis. This rebuild is severly needed sadly the team is dead
there should be ways for players to delete stats, not to be counted into the career stats. not fair in future contract negotioations when they say, "oh look you are -50 this one year, huh! okay!"
This is so sad. Especially since a Sharks game (when they were solid) was the second hockey game I've been to, other than my hometown San Diego Gulls from my g/f back in the day bought a ticket to for my birthday. A local bar had a yearly Sharks trip where you'd pay something like $30 per person and you'd get free pizza and a free beer at the bar beforehand, a game ticket, and a chartered bus that was stocked with free beer that was included with the fee (as well other alcohol and...substances...attendees brought with them lmao). It was insanely fun and well worth the money. Every franchise goes through ups and downs but I superficially follow the Sharks still and this start is pathetic. BTW, my plan is to make a Mooseheads game this season my third hockey game I've attended. **fingers crossed**
You should make a video on the BUF @ NJD game from last night, the ref chirped and yelled STFU YOUVE GOT THE POWER PLAY to a devils player, a whole lot happened yesterday in NJ.
Sharks fan here and yeah it’s rough right now. I was hoping we could turn things around after the rebuild start last year. I believe in this team but it’s hard right now as a fan
Did you just say Flyers aren’t as good as they look? Their worse game getting out scored by 3, the rest by only 1. And only allowed 3 goals in 3 home games? That’s crazy.
Of course we're real bad, but is everyone forgetting how tough our schedule has been to start off? Realistically, I thought we could only beat Nashville but even they steamrolled our team.
I just hope the pain now will be rewarded with a cup win in a few years. Being a lifelong fan has been fun when they were winning but now it’s so dreadful.
SJ had only 20 wins (fewer than Anaheim) last year and that w/ Karlsson. It’s Kahkonen/Blackwood I feel for; they have to “pitch a shutout” just to tie so many nights. SJ will likely be as poor as Colorado during Bednar’s first year there, if not worse.
The worst part about all of this is that Grier completely and totally wasted Karlsson's trade value after making a point the entire freaking off-season of getting a high return for him. Mike Hoffman Jan Rutta Mikael Granlund and a Top-10 protected first (yes really its not even a lottery pick) isn't a return. Those three will be gone after this season (Granlund is hurt and Hoffman has 9 shots in 8 games) and the pick means nothing as if Pittsburgh falls apart they don't even get a top 10 pick. This team is screwed. Really screwed, and Grier has essentially left the Sharks with nothing to look for in the future beyond the No. 1 pick (who isn't a Connor Bedard unfortunately). The Sharks might not hit 20 wins, and I'm not saying that in a hyperbolic sense genuinely they may struggle to get 20 wins this season. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't get past 15. This could be record-breaking levels of terribleness.
Me? I feel bad for Mackenzie Blackwood who has to try his hardest to play goaltender for this team after being sent there from NJ. He was solid for my Devils and just had rough injury luck. Now hes playing on a team who can't help him protect their zone or really help out offensively either
Sharks are excellent in the faceoff though. My Bolts spanked them 6-0 but faceoffs was like 59% in favor of the Sharks and Blackwood made multiple ten bell saves
As a Sharks fan, I believe some of the trades they made over the past 3 years were the worst EVER! However, I'm not sure I get the bagging on the Sharks when we all know they are rebuilding. This is what that looks like. If you don't get that, then you don't know hockey. The Sharks suck, they're rebuilding....duh
I don’t think the trades with this team are the issue. I agree that I wasn’t a fan of the Brent Burns trade, but the reason why the Sharks are where they are right now is because Doug Wilson drilled this team into the ground by handing out so many eight year deals to players which in turn crippled the rest of the team financially and traded away most of our draft picks and assets so that we couldn’t immediately develop any young talent to help right the ship. Thankfully, we’re near the very end of this period of cap hell and we have some nice draft picks coming up so after this year the front office can finally start molding the team how they want to without any restrictions.
@@danynumero6 i bet if we still had Pavs, Burns, Jumbo, Middleton and i would even say Marleau, this team would make a real run for the playoffs. But it would be old i guess
