Hi and welcome to episode 27 of the Shed of Dreams ES 335 guitar build series. Having cut the basic shape if the neck and routed the trussrod channel in the last episode this time we spend some time cleaning the neck blank up before adding the ears to the headstock and cutting it to shape.
I hope you enjoy the video, if so please consider subscribing using the link below.

Another step in the process down. I love the jigsaw puzzle factor of this build. The melding of the peices to create that classic form. 👍

Thanks Philip, I think it's the only way I can get my head around this build by breaking it down into small managable parts.

Another great video, I glued the wings on my version of a Rickenbacker 4003 bass the same way. I'm now looking forward to the next video.

Thanks mate, I prefer to do it this way as it keeps the neck blank flat along the edges longer. Also means you can get away with a thinner bit of timber.

Good stuff! I just used the exact same method last week with the spindle sander to sand the back of the headstock. It worked pretty well. Looking forward to the next one in your series!

Thanks Chris, it makes short work of a tricky task, love my spindle sander. Next episode coming right up :)

Yet another great success Patrick. I'm gradually getting up the courage to build my first guitar and your videos are really helping me build confidence. Thanks for that!

That's great to hear Martin, the whole reason for starting the channel, I'm sure you'll be fine and I'm always happy to offer help if you need it :)

Ditto your every word Martin. I’ve been vicariously building and planning for a few years now and fully intended use GGBO21 as an incentive to start but circumstances gave me an excuse to bottle it. 🤣

Hi Patrick, great explanation on the rod adjustment port! As we all know Gibson are tied to their previous designers legacies good bad or indifferent.. The purist would be up in arms !

I get the whole tradition thing with Gibson but if you buy into you have to accept that the headstock might come off at some point!! Personally I prefer the two way rod and attached headstocks :)

Sometimes it's like a loop of what's next. Can't do the fretboard till I do the heel, can't do the heel till I get the neckpocket... Etc. Looking good Patrick

Thanks Jurgen, it can be a bit of a job working out the critical path sometimes! Glad this bit is out of the way now :)

Really been thinking about the finish on this one.. transparent burst perhaps? love the new format and tackling one major piece at a time.. !!

Thanks, I haven't fully decided on the finish yet but it's not going to be a solid colour that's for sure ;)

Brilliant. I've never glued wings on a headstock before. Really impressed with the progress on this build.

i can see i'm going to have to invest in some new planes. had several but they were pilfered in one of our moves. what kind of truss rod are you using. i like the idea of a less intrusive truss rod. can't wait for episodes 28, 29 & 30...with the carving of the neck. most of building a guitar is done by mechanical means, but the carving of the neck is where the artistry comes into play! kind of like wood turning, which i love to do as well. take care and see you in e28.

Thanks Rick, nearly all of my hand planes have come off Ebay. They need a bit of sorting out but I think the old Stanley's are as good as all but the most expensive new planes. I'm using a two way truss rod. I can't wait to get to the carve as well, my favourite part :)

Looking good! Do you find your 9” bandsaw big enough for the jobs that you are doing on your guitars? Thinking of investing and making my life easier!
@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams
@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams 2 года назад
The little bandsaw handles pretty much all of my guitar building tasks. It's at the limit some of the time but manages. I am thinking of getting a much bigger one so I can resaw tops much easier but apart from that the little one does great.

Patrick, are you going to forego adding a volute on this one?
@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams
@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams 2 года назад
Yes, no volute on this one just for a change. No other reason.
