Combination of medals, times & longevity makes her the greatest 100m Female Sprinter in history! Medalling in Paris at age 37 would just be the cherry on top.
@@yennox5338 Bolt's historic 3 consecutive Olympic 100m Golds & his times makes it hard for me to agree, but w/o those particular accolades, I'd 100% agree with you!
@@twintopper8659 what records does mj have? And if someone comes along and breaks bolts record rn. Are they now the goat? Forget everything else? Records are the least important part if being the GOAT
So happy that I was able to see one of the greatest female sprinters in history run. Wishing Shelly the best in this next season, she is such an amazing athlete, she will continue to inspire future generations.
It's fantastic for the mid to late 30 year olds like myself still seeing the likes of SAFP and Kipchoge run PBs and world records well into the approach to 40, despite them being world level since the early 2000s. It just shows with the right training, these don't have to be your decline years.
One thing about consistency, its a powerful and beautiful thing. That's what Shelly-Ann has!!! Always been able to show up! See her mind is on another level 🔥
This season is going to be perhaps the hardest for Shelly. With Shericka, Natasha and Elaine present along with many upcoming female sprinters, the Jamaican Olympic Trials is going to be very interesting. I don't think it's impossible for Shelly to win the 100m but I do think it's going more difficult for her to improve or reach near her PB to win. It looks like 10.69 or quicker may be needed to win Gold at major championships these days. The Olympic Record of 10.61m by Elaine is in danger if many of the top runners are healthy and the weather conditions in France are good and legal. I wish Shelly the best for this season, it is going to be an eventful one.
@@Astro2024 No, because of the operations of the Olympics from its own rules & occurrence of every 4 years, athletes who have qualifying standards have to place top 3 in each event they choose to make their country's Olympic team. That's why the emphasis of this year is extremely important because if she doesn't make top 3 this year, she will not be eligible to participate for an individual medal at the Olympics unless injury, bans or other circumstances occur.
@@davids5980 Exactly, plus Sha'carri has to qualify in her own nationals to make the US Olympic team herself. This year more than ever, anything can happen to anyone plus I'm unsure what will happen by the time Paris comes around.
I don’t want to count her out, but if her current rivals are also in their top form, she will need to run 10.61 or under to be at the top of the podium. If Shelly-Ann is in good but not her best form, she’ll get a bronze medal. But I want she’ll-Ann to finish her career in PB form.
@@kc5466 national records? Because that alone does not make you the goat at all Flo jo was juiced up and ran after 1 successful season, made excuses for why she did it but it was because of new/better drug testing in 1989 She didn't win any world champs or defend her olympic titles This is your goat tho? Ok 24 global medals and 80+ sub 11s over 15 years beat flo jo's 1 hit wonder anyday.
@@realAndresilver how can someone be the greatest ever if they’re not even the best in Jamaica? Shelly has a losing record against her rival. She is 3rd all time in the 100m. She won 5 world championships but someone in their first global championship already broke the championship record in her first try. And also Elaine has the Olympic record. Naming Shelly the goat is equivalent to calling a student with the best attendance in school history the greatest student. The student is great for attending school everyday. But the valedictorian is still the person with the better performance and grades. Currently, Shelly has no championship records or national records and has never won another Olympic title since Elaine came to the scene. It’s a hard pill for you to swallow but based on the criteria Shelly isn’t the Goat. And quite frankly I don’t think there is a Goat in women’s sprinting because no one checks all the boxes to be considered the Goat.
ah yes, Elaine the Olympic baby@@kc5466 nvm you're just a sha carri supporter. shelly ann will be on the podium, mark my words. you should stop underestimating the living legend that is shelly ann running 10.62 and 21.82 at 35 is incredible and running only 2 100m races before the world champs in 2023 while being injured then producing a bronze and 10.77s in a very high quality field.
If we’re talking world championships, I would argue that Shelly-Ann is the greatest 100m sprinter (male or female) of all times. 5 titles at 100m. In terms of 200m, it would be Allyson Felix: she’s the only woman to have won 3 titles at that distance (consecutive wins from 2005-2009). I go back and forth about “the GOAT” because technically Allyson Felix is the most decorated track athlete of all times. Yes, many of her Olympic medals come from relays but the fact of the matter is that Felix was often the key factor to the u.s. winning gold in the 4x100m & 4x400m-she literally has some of the fastest splits ever in BOTH distances. She also qualified for 5 Olympics and won an individual 400m bronze and gold in the 4x400m relay at age 36. In total, Allyson has 7 individual world championship medals while Shelly has 8. However, Felix’s versatility in the 100, 200, & 400m puts her slightly ahead to me when I think about the greatest sprinters of all times. Rooting for Shelly-Ann and excited to see what she does this season. But also rooting for ETH (because if we’re judging this based off Olympic medals alone, she’s the only woman to double consecutively and I have a feeling she’s gone be on fire again this season). And Shericka coming for this records so… I’m rooting for everybody Black lbs. 🙌🏿
If Elaine defends her olympic title yet again in both events at Paris this year, then she'd be the only track athlete to achieve bolt's olympic status. However I don't see that happening because the competition is hella stiff now. We all know Shericka has the 200m on lock now and we now have about 4 100m ladies running 10.6x.. It'll be quite the spectacle come paris 🔥🔥🔥
@@Fredrilenz Agreed. If we’re defining that by medals at the global stage in the 100m, there’s really no competition (male or female) when it comes Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce. Her consistency is unmatched.
@@Fredrilenz True but the women’s competition has always been a bit more stacked than the men’s competition-which always made it more exciting in my opinion. I think it will be a tall task for Elaine but I also don’t doubt her ability to show up on point and ready for Olympic competition. ESPECIALLY in the 200m cuz Shericka got that distance on lock atm. I’m so excited for this summer.
@@ImagineJoyy Well, If I'm to call it, I'd say Shericka wins the 200m gold for sure! Coming to the 100m, it's quite a very difficult call because if all athletes are healthy and in top form, there still won't even be a clear favorite. If you're not running 10.6x or faster, you're not in the podium. That's how crazy tight it will be. I'd say Shelly, Shacarri and Elaine in no particular order. It though feels like an abomination leaving Shericka out of the 100m podium discussion but I reckon she'd make up for it in the 200m 😂
She is the greatest the world has ever seen. Very consistent since she started running at George Headley Primary School. You deserve all that God has in store for you shelly.
she is without any shadow of a doubt THE GOAT of not just female athletics but athletics imo, nobody has had such a career as her, i would luv to see her finish off her career with another Olympic gold or 2 but considering how much of last season she missed thru injury and how much Jackson and Richardson are on fire its looking very unlikely, id be happy even if she just got bronze
Been in awe of her since she stepped on the big stage in 2008 still wearing braces. She is the absolute queen of the 100m and will be sorely missed!😢 Even if she doesn't get the gold in Paris, she has nothing else to prove. 👑🏃🏿♀️🥇🏆
No doubt, she is when all is taken into consideration. The downside to it is that some people will disagree using one or two criteria to deny her of her greatness. However, if logic prevails, and all that she has accomplished is considered, she is the best candidate for the GOAT. She has been the most consistent active athlete by far at such a high level.
GOAT!! No question. Although she may medal, and if she does that would be incredible, I think her chances of beating the likes of Shericka and Sha’carri are very slim
Shelley-Ann is amazing, especially to still be considered as one of the gold medal favourites at 37, she must have some of the same genes as Merlene Ottey. I would also include Julien Alfred on that list of medal contenders. She may only have a 10.81 PB, but there's no way she can be so fast in the indoor 60, as well as the 200m and not have a better time in her and let's not forget she has run a 10.72 with a 2.4m wind only slightly over the legal limit.. Add the fact that she doesn't have a long NCAA season to contend with this year and she is likely to be up with the fastest women this year. We also shouldn't forget Marie-Josée who has to stop coming 4th at some point.
She is one of my favorite athletes of any sport and any time... she is an inspiration as a 40yo amateur triathlete myself, and I will love for her to get the gold medal in Paris. It will be very hard, but if she brings her 2022 season game , free of injuries I think it is very doable
Still has failed to break the record of 10:49 ( nor has anyone in 30+ years), though a phenomenal career, oh, yes. However, Allison Felix out shines her record, as she is the most decorated sprinter ever ( man or woman). I do admire Ms. Shelley for her endurance and longevity😊. A great sprinter. I do hope that she will shine in the Olympics once again, and she has a good chance of medaling, even a potential of winning gold. Kudos, you go girl!
not so impressive when you learn that out of felix’s 31 global medals, only 11 are individual medals and only 5 are gold. 20 of the other medals are all from relays. in comparison, out of shelly’s 25 medals, 14 of them are individual medals. she’s also the most decorated 100m athlete with 10 individual medals in the 100m. only 34% of allyson’s medals are individual, compared to shelly’s 60%. i respect allyson as an athlete, but she’s far outshined by shelly, when you compare them as individuals.
@@kauze_ Big NAH. Your math is off plus you misstated the facts: Shelly-Anne Fraser Pryce has 13 individual global medals in comparison to Allyson Felix’s 11 individual global medals. People are always trying to make it seem like Allyson didn’t do much individually but she was a beast of a competitor across multiple distances. Also, let’s be real about the fact that Allyson was the literal key to the u.s. winning most of those relays, running some of the fastest splits EVER in both the 4x100m & 4x400m. Her splits in the 400m relay were consistently 1-2 seconds faster than her teammates. That 9.7 split she ran (bested only by Carmelita Jeter) in the 2012 Olympics is part of why they were able to get the WR. As quiet as it’s kept, AF has ran down the likes of SFP & ETH on that second leg-with a running start, she was dangerous af (no pun intended 🙌🏿😝). If we’re going to talk about her relay medals, let’s also talk about the significant role she played-which is why she always called back to be part of those teams.
@@ImagineJoyy 14 if you include her indoor 60m gold, but i completely agree with what you said. like i mentioned, this wasn’t aimed at bashing allyson, just a healthy comparison. :)
@@kauze_ heard-cuz not I’m on RU-vid defending AF like I’m getting paid 🤣. She’s always been deeply inspirational to me as I was blown away by her range/versatility/consistency. But honestly, all these Black women runners are getting me up. I’m so excited for the games this year. 🙌🏿
I've had a theory for a while now that, especially Olympic, female althetes that are either towards the end of their career or know there body handles pregnancy well have figured out that despite the training set backs there is a biological benefit to having a baby.
She is one of the greatest but not the greatest. Has had an amazing career but i have ETH ahead of her. ETH has a faster PR and won back to back Olympic 100/200 doubles. Maybe this years Olympics results will add to the argument either way for each lady. Also even with controversy Flo Jo will always be in the goat debate.
so you telling me that shelly ann couldn't run under 10.7 in her twenties and all of a sudden at the end of her career now runnig 10.67 really peds can make you do incredible things smh!!
SAFP is an excellent competitor, but she never beat the times of FloJo. That is why she can't be called the greatest. Hopefully Lyles can break Bolt's 200m time so he can be called the greatest.
