To anyone curious about why Brian has not uploaded since this video. He is in the hospital and in critical condition. According to his FB page. UPDATE. He is out of surgery and awake. From an update on the original post that broke the news.
Hi Brian, it's the evening of 25th March here and Mike just told us all that u are in hospital, I am sending all my best for u and your loved ones, and asking the universe to hold u all in the palm of its hand and keep u safe ❤
I just saw in a post from Mike the screenshot of the post from who I suppose is a loved one of yours Brian, and I began to cry before even reading any details. It is probably the second time I have been brought to tears by booktube, the first being your first video about your eye condition. It was so moving because, while you are usually such a joyful and comedic presence here, that moment of earnestness and vulnerability was so moving, especially because you maintained your humor and positivity throughout. I feel real fear right now because this situation immediately reminded me of my aunt, who a few years ago went suddenly into the ICU and I never had the chance to speak to her again. It seems silly...because I don't actually know you. I suppose that's only mostly true. I have not yet read your books and only watch some of your videos since there is no one on earth that is able to read all the books that you are able to get through. Regardless, you are in my thoughts, and I eagerly await your next video, read or unread.
Wishing you a full recovery, Brian. The world needs your unique perspective and energy. You’ve introduced me to more obscure, classic fantasy than anyone. Sending healing thoughts your way.
The Shining is all about alcoholism. So, if you weren't familiar with alcoholism, then the book probably would not have had as great of an impact. And it's the same thing in other Stephen King novels that deal with other ailments like Insomnia and Thinner. What's interesting about The Shining is, for most of the book Jack's alcoholism covers up the demonic possession that is happening to him. The book is actually really deep. That's why I love it.
We’re all pulling for you Brian! You’re my favorite book tuber and your recommendations have led me to finding and enjoying more books and exploring more genres than any other source. Praying to the Atheist-Mormon gods for your speedy recovery! ❤
I noticed that you hadn’t uploaded in a while which was super weird, came to this video and saw the comments… Get well soon!!!! Sending you positive vibes and all the well wishes for a full and speedy recovery ❤️❤️❤️
Glad to know you're on the mend Brian. We hope to see you back online soon. Here's to a speedy recovery. ...now don't scare us like that again. We can't be without the greatest television programme in the entire universe!
Love this book. Read it when I was maybe ten or eleven, and a few times since. Still got my mum's BCA hardback in my collection. Love that edition because it was released in the year I was born 🤘
Ahh, my favorite novel. I could read this every year. I'm going to the Stanley this summer and have room 217 booked. Maybe I'll get blasted in the lounge and go ghost hunting. I'll poop fire on any ghost I see.
Wasn't King himself half-cronked while he was writing this? Could be a connection. I actually read this for the first time after seeing the movie for the first time back in 1980. I had all of the images from the film in my head while I read it and it absolutely freaked me out. I loved it then and I love it now. One of my top ten books. I also think it would be fun to create a book filled with stories of the Overlook's past written by horror and thriller writers (i.e. the old woman in the bathtub, the mob hit in the presidential suite, etc.). You could call it "Welcome Back to the Overlook; A History"
This book is seems pretty balanced in people who loved it and didnt care for it . Hard to pull the trigger and read for my self . Ive only read one king book before.
The Shining is easily a top-5 SK novel (it's #1 for me). I still haven't forgiven Durfee for putting trash ass Colorado Kid and The Dark Half ahead of The Shining in his top-84 SK novels video. LMAO Also, you mention how Danny is basically the main character of the book (which he is), and that's the biggest reason why the movie isn't as good as the book. The movie grossly marginalized Danny. It went out of its way to highlight Jack Nicholson over everything
