On Sept. 27, 2005, The White Stripes concert at the Merriweather Post Pavilion Theatre in Columbia, Md., was streamed live online via the National Public Radio Web site, NPR.org. The show also included sets by support acts the Shins and M. Ward.
Following M. Ward's brief opening set, Albuquerque, New Mexico-based, the Shins kicked off their 40 minute set with Caring is Creepy, one of two Shins tunes featured on the soundtrack of Zach Braff's movie, Garden State. New Slang, the band's breakout hit also featured in the movie (“You gotta hear this one song. It'll change your life, I swear”) was surprisingly absent from the evening's set list. The Albuquerque outfit confidently won over the appreciative gathering of White Stripe aficionados, with James Mercer's creatively constructed songs. Each loaded with keen, quick witted lyrics, swirling keyboards, jingly guitars and on one song (When I Goose Step) the bubbling tones of a vibraphone. ~ Dirt City Chronicles ~
