Really love this band. Seeing them tomorrow actually. I'm going to need to listen to this record a few times before I can say whether I like it or not though. Jame's albums take some time to grow on me, but then I end up loving them.
I cannot believe this has less than 100,000 views!....This is a classic recording!.....One of the best, if not thee best song that's out right now!!.....The Shins are great, and have always been one of the best bands around!...Love, peace and respect from this fifty-two year old indie rock and world music collector from Oklahoma, USA
I really believe this band lacks the ability to do wrong. The songs are so simple, but so original, and I feel like that's such a hard thing to pull off as a songwriter (especially for an entire discography that's still continuing as far as we know).
yo I love this song so much but WHERE THEM LYRICS AT FAM?? James' vocals are notoriously hard to understand sometimes and I NEED TO KNOW ALL OF THE GENIUS THAT'S BEING SAID IN THIS SONG
Do the rhythm and the handclaps remind anyone else of Radiohead's "Lotus Flower"? Not that it's a bad thing. Just curious if I was the only one who noticed. The Shins' take is funkier, and presumably you'd do less of an oddball dance to it than Thom Yorke would.
It's funny, just the other day I was thinking what the new Shins records needs is more LA-LA-LA-LAs... and then THIS, haha... not what I had in mind, but this song really made me excited for Heartworms. Off I go now to have a listen to the whole thing :D
I like that the drums stick out more in this track. A lot of thier other songs, the snare sounds like a small pop, not pronounced, and percussion gets lost behind the other instruments. ( which I don't mind, because mercers voice and melodies make up for it) but I liked hearing a more pronounced drum in this
Wincing is my favorite. Port of Morrow was bit of a letdown IMO. But these new tracks are so tasty, I feel like the new one might be a return to greatness!
Just my 2 cents here, I love all these bands compared as "the best of all time" but ultimately they are the best at their own genres, sounds, and times... (Huge Beatles fan btw) The Shins rank in as top 3 all time for Indie Rock. The uncapped inception brought it to the scene so similar bands could carry a unique torch and made it a title worth noting... Music is UNIVERSAL and that's the best thing to celebrate here! BTW, 'WINCING THE NIGHT AWAY' REIGNS SUPREME AMONGST ALL INDIE ROCK ALBUMS! Of all time of course...
