The Shirelles - Fifty Years and Fabulous!! 

Thanks Shirells for taking us back to the swinging 60s. It brought tears to my eyes.

The greatest most popular female groups of all times . I've been listening to there music and amazing harmony since they came out. Back in the 60's if you listened to rock n roll they were the ones to were listening to. They sang some of the greatest songs ever recorded. I loved them then and I love them today. There music will be a huge part of me until I finally lay my body down to rest permanently.

Hello all the way from Palermo Sicilia. And good morning USA. For those of us who were Teenagers back in the 50'S and 60'S and grew up up in the big City Neighborhoods ( mine was Little Italy, Belmont Heights N.W. Washington D.C. ) and still love this old time music raise your right hand. Well I got mine raised. And I still have all of my old Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis Sun Records. God Bless.

You know, Im a 80s Rocker. But the 50s music just does something to me. Its Happy Music! It makes me time travel and think about what would i have been doing back then if i were born then. Uou have awesome groups like the Shirrells, The Platters, The Impressions( I was a good friends with Mr Sam Gooden up until he passed ( I had the honor of speaking and saying a prayer at his celebration of life service.) You had Little Richard ( Which my grandma also nick name me lol. Dion, The Teenagers. Well, I gotta stop but you get what i mean. This music means so kuch to me oll never let it die in me. I hope one day soon i can do a covers album of several 50s songs. Thank you Solid Gold music of the 50s for taking us back to Happy Music.

Beverly and Shirley did reunite briefly in 2002 when they were honored on the Girl Groups Stamp. They sang on stage together.

Saw them live in Pittsburgh at the taping of Lubinsky's Oldies show for PBS in 2002. The Chantels and Shirelles will never be matched.

The Facts: There are 2 surviving Original Shirelles. Beverly Lee the owner of the name SHIRELLES and Shirley Alston Reeves the Original Lead Singer. Thank God that both Shirley and Beverly have separate but fabulously equal careers, keeping The SHIRELLES brand alive. I have experienced live shows starring Beverly Lee and The Shirelles and I have also had the pleasure of capturing the SHIRLEY ALSTON REEVES REVUE. Both acts should not be missed. Shirley sat on my knee and sang to me at a beach bar in Charleston S.C. 1965. I was floored. My racist Marine Corps buddies gave me grief for letting a black chick kiss my cheek but I was floored. i was off to Veitnam a bit later.

I think they still sound great. But it would be great if Shirley Austin Reeves could sing with them. I hope they can reconcile their differences, someday.

The question arises: is it fair to present a 75-year-old woman -- Beverly Lee, who owns the rights to the group's' name -- as the sole continuing member of the original group, throw in a couple of 30-somethings and call THEM the Shirelles? I think not.

I'm of a younger generation but I was brought up on music like this. Nevertheless I'm sad to hear their is infighting amongst the Shirelles all these years later. Its comparable in a way to another great girl group from later (1990's )En Vogue. Most of the time it's the record labels and greedy executives that cause the rifts in these groups especially with black groups/artists. They were robbing and stealing from them then even till now. Giving them pittance for their hard pioneering work. It would be good to see a tour with older Female groups like the Shirelles, the Emotions, Pointer Sisters etc. to more current ones like En Vogue and SWV. Hardly any good female groups out now sadly.
