@kysunflower6647 It's unfortunate that some people don't understand the importance of food safety. This is not just about expiration dates but cockroach infestation. Cockroaches are known to carry diseases such as salmonella, E. coli, and more. Their movements can potentially spread these pathogens to surfaces and food items, increasing the chances of infection if the contaminated food is consumed.
Canned foods are good past the expiration date, as long as the cans aren't rusty and the lid hasn't popped. I would have only been concerned with the boxed food.
Of course you were right to throw out all items touched by cockroaches! You do an amazing job and I am so sorry they were ungrateful and rude to you. Definitely a symptom of a hoarder mentality.
@gretchencaccamo2620 It's unfortunate that some people don't understand the importance of food safety. I'll continue to focus on creating content with care and consideration. Thanks for your understanding and support! 😊❤️❤️ ❤️
@@jackieschiller3652 It's even worse that she had been planning to donate items. The food pantries do not need roach infested, gross food and paper products!
I imagine the spouse is relieved but sadly this will be a repeat occurrence if change does not happen inside that family structure. Someone other than the wife needs to do the food side of the home as soon as this clean out happened. At least for a time while she gets treatment. They likely require family therapy. This family having children tells me there is a risk of contagion and the husband (who doesn't hoard?) will be footing the bill in many ways in the years to come. So take care of all the business --- clean up the physical and challenge the mental/emotional side. Strive for health and improvement. Otherwise, things will continue to cycle back to where outside help such as Renee's will continue to be needed.
Toss, just like you did. A good deed never goes unpunished. There's something else going on with that lady that has nothing to do with the great work you did. Sadly, it has happened to all of us when we've helped others. Great work, awesome editing.
You helped her life so much by doing her pantry I was sorry to hear she had kids they couldn’t even get to snacks and who knows if they did the food was probably expired what they ate then got food poisoning so sad
@lisasturdivant1516. Thank you for watching the video! It's unfortunate that some people don't understand the importance of food safety. I'll continue to focus on creating content with care and consideration. Thanks for your understanding and support! 😊❤️❤️
Renee, you had a massive job to do there !! How ungrateful can a person be ? You carry on with your great work we fully appreciate what you do for people. 💐
My goodness! With all of that mess in the pantry, she would have never eaten all of it or even knew what she had in there!! She should have known that you were looking out for her and her family! You did a great job!! Thanks for all that you do!!
The wastefulness of over buying and not using the food borders on immoral or criminal with so many people food insecure these days. My heart breaks to see the waste due to letting food become unsafe. You did a great job!
@kathryngarcia8800 Thank you so much! 😊 ❤️ It's unfortunate that some people don't understand the importance of food safety. I'll continue to focus on creating content with care and consideration. Thanks for your understanding and support! 😊❤️❤️
Pro organizer here. I have been organizing for over 15 years and the one thing that all of my true hoard clients have in common is they almost always are either teachers or in the medical field mostly nurses. I truly believe this is a personality issue that makes these people choose these careers and have hoarding tendencies. This pantry is a height level 4 hoard and I don’t know what your ground rules were with her, but expiration dates are hard and fast rule especially for hoarders. This always something i put into contracts.
@@Hope8x28 I'm sorry to hear about your experience with your mother-in-law. Hoarding can manifest differently in individuals, and it's important to remember that behavior isn't necessarily representative of all hoarders. Some might exhibit rudeness and entitlement, but others may not. Each person is unique, and understanding their circumstances can be complex.
OMG that’s not right! Yes I would toss all of it!!!! That was an amazing transformation! Please don’t let this experience bring you down! You did the same thing most people would and toss whatever needed to be thrown out. I hate bugs and never intend to share any food with them. Eeeew
I live in rural Florida. I hate bugs but they love me. It is a constant battle. My grandchildren put opened things back in the cabinets. I have a rule, if the bugs won't eat it neither do we. Of course if bugs do get in things, out they go. I vacuum seal rice and pasta. Beans get vacuum sealed in glass jars. Potatoes are double baged. I would love a large pantry like this!
@corinnarambo7466 Your approach to keeping the pantry pest-free with vacuum sealing and double bagging is impressive. Keep up the bug-defense tactics, and may your pantry stay bug-free! 😄🐜❤️
I’m sure she will enjoy going through those trash bags, since she wouldn’t go through the food while it was in the pantry 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ you did a fantastic job 🙌🏻🙌🏻
First off let me say, What a shame that much food went to waste. You were a brave woman going in there in the first place with bugs hanging about. I'd been squealing like a girl and I am a girl. You don't give her ungratefulness one minute of thought. What you did in there was amazing. What you do is amazing and so kind hearted. And NO! I don't want to eat off of any paper plate or any party supply item that a roach has had a field day playing on. UGH!
@Jake92574 It's unfortunate that some people don't understand the importance of food safety. I'll continue to focus on creating content with care and consideration. Thanks for your understanding and support! 😊❤️❤️❤️
I’m just blown away by how much food was wasted here! Thousands of dollars of groceries in the trash because this family just piled it all up to expire. So sad! You did an amazing job tidying that pantry up. I hope they can see that there’s a better way forward and be less wasteful in the future!
@meredithmitchell4264 Thanks for your comment! It's sad to see so much food wasted. I appreciate your kind words I hope she goes to my sponsor betterhelp.com/lessmess for 10% off her first month of therapy with BetterHelp and get matched with a therapist that will listen and help! ❤️ ❤️❤️ 🌟❤️
Wow, so sorry you had that experience. If the homeowner had taken the time to do what she said, why wouldn’t she just have discarded what was expired? I find it hard to believe with as much as you had to clear prior to organizing that she would have been able to get to those shelves. If I knew cockroaches, live or dead were in there, it would have all gone to the trash. You did an amazing job as always and attempted to discuss it with her. If it were me, would have been beyond grateful for your time, the free service and a clean, organized pantry!
@ninjasipad7924 Thank you for your understanding and support! It was a challenging experience, but I did our best to create a clean, organized pantry. Your kind words mean a lot to me! 😊🙏 😊 ❤️
I’m sure she was surprised at the amount of trash/expired items. She was probably mad at the situation she clearly created and directed her frustration at you. The few things she thought shouldn’t have been thrown away clearly had bugs in them, otherwise you wouldn’t have thrown it away. But some people don’t understand how gross roaches are. They leave skid marks on everything.
I'm shocked this is a teacher teaching other kids!!! Would she give those things to a student!? What is she thinking!? To entitled for me! I would of told her like it is.
To prevent food waste I make a weekly menu plan, then I shop for any ingredients needed. It helps immensely! Renee you did another amazing job on that chaos!
And to not do that weekly shop at a Sam's or Costco. While I love them and currently have one membership, for a hoarder or someone with those tendencies they are like a liquor store to the alcoholic. Much better to go to a small coop and buy what is fresh and in small supply that week and cook accordingly. (And after doing an inventory of what is still at home). I never could do a meal plan so just keep stock of things that I know I will always want to make and we will eat. If I make extra. I freeze it and eat if for lunches. Embrace eating leftovers, we call it a "smorgasbord" and have one dinner per week to eat up all the little remnants. You can turn them into appetizers and kiddos love it since they are finger food. So many ways to avoid over purchasing/ overstocking. Get yourself and the kiddos going to the park or swimming pool rather than grocery store! There are more things to do in life than accumulate goods and spend money. Each dollar earned represents your time. Spend them wisely!
Fantastic job and I would send her a bill after that text. You were indeed correct in throwing out items that were expired and had cockroaches on them. The husband definitely knows and appreciates it.
I watch a lot of hoarder tv shows. I’m not surprised by the homeowners response. Please don’t take it personal. Please keep up your good work. This was the best help video I’ve seen. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
@timetochange3002 Glad you liked it! Thank you for your understanding! I totally get that hoarding situations can be complex, and people's responses can vary. I appreciate your encouragement and support for the work I do. I'm thrilled to know that you found the video helpful. I'll continue doing my best to provide valuable content. 😊
@@reneeshull I agree, if you let people get to you like she attempted then she wins. Though it’s not a matter of who wins or loses, those that truly need and appreciate your hard work and kindness would lose out if you gave up because of one ungrateful individual
Wow! I wouldn't have expected homeowner to be unhappy. Yes, the paperstuff & everything where the pest toyched should have been thriwn away. Paper and stuff is where the pest live and by FDA standards you are correct.
If I spot bugs I am inclined to throw more than the item but the whole batch! Sorry to hear the homeowner missed the whole point. You did a fantastic job here! I am mesmerized watching you work.
@miriamdecker5990 Thank you so much for your kind words and support. It's unfortunate that some people don't understand the importance of food safety. I'll continue to focus on creating content with care and consideration. 😊❤️❤️
My mom is the same way. No matter how much work and knowledge I put in to helping her, she'll always fixate on the one thing that I did "wrong." After a week or so she is able to be more rational and appreciative. I think it's a control issue or something else psychological -- some people really struggle with accepting help.
This transformation was amazing. I can't believe that the homeowner was so ungrateful and rude. You did an amazing job, and I have so many ideas to tackle my own cluttered pantry. Thank you for what you do 😊
WOW! Absolutely blown away.... first let me say- you did a fabulous job! It's neat, tidy and BUG-FREE!! This unfortunately is an extreme food hoarder's issue and the homeowner herself, was incapable of accepting responsibility for her shortcomings. Instead, it was a "blame game"- and this is what hoarding sickness is- not taking responsibility and blaming others for what they themselves, have created. I'm so sorry that you took all that time and effort to help her out FREE OF CHARGE, and she couldn't even manage a tiny bit of gratitude! Thank you for sharing this video!
What a great job you did! Please do not let her criticisms get you down. I am training to be a CBT therapist and often I am meet with anger or frustration when you help uncover a sore point. This woman has issues with hoarding and rather than admit she needs help she has lashed out and tried to hurt you so you feel the pain that she is in. Hopefully she will get help rather than subject her family, especially her children to this negative attitude and lifestyle. Please don’t t take her negativity to your heart!
I don't know if Less Mess is up for this yet, but it would be REALLY neat to see a conversation with someone with your background and a person who is on the clean up side like LESS MESS. Using some of her footage to illustrate and the stories of people she has helped would be very educational and may help others facing family members (or themselves) going through this, early warning signs, approach to deal with, how to navigate, impact on children, how to improve relationships with hoarders, etc., etc. It could be a helpful addition to these, even as a little snippet. Just a quick thought I had when I read your comment. TIA
I’m so sorry for the customer’s reaction. It appeared to me that you were doing the right thing. I hope this doesn’t discourage you from helping others. You are a blessing for those who are ready to organize and declutter.
@ashotofsherry Thanks for your support and kind words! Your encouragement means a lot. I'll keep striving to make a positive impact on those who are ready for a change. ❤️
You did such a good job there. Perhaps the homeowner feels bad about the waste of food and then you get to be the scapegoat. There was way too much food in there and I hope they get the food buying under control. I loved it when the Minimal Mom said that she decided to let the supermarket store and manage the food so she wouldn´t have to keep it in her home and manage it there. So freeing - now I always keep that in mind when deciding what to buy.
100% - I heard this once somewhere in my minimalist journey and never forgot it. “I store everything at the store!!” Basically, I keep 1 week’s worth of food on hand at once. We use Costco for the non-perishables like toilet paper and detergent. Some food is purchased in bulk, but only the stuff we eat lots of.
You did an amazing job wow. So many bags of expired food. I am sad to hear that the homeowner gave you grief and not understanding the process. Yes of course if there are coackroches, things have to be tossed out. It would be like a dream come true to have a person like you show up at my home to help, I can't believe that someone would have the audacity to complain.
@sandrae.7352 Thank you for your understanding and appreciation. It's unfortunate when challenges arise during the decluttering process, but ensuring a clean and safe environment is a top priority. I'm here to assist and make a positive difference wherever I can. 😊🏡🌟❤️
You are a saint. I just filled 2 big bags for local food drives. I buy canned food when it's on sale. We live in a 2BR condo, that pantry is the size of one bedroom. Tina, Al's wife
I would absolutely throw them away. I’d also be very thankful for your help with this daunting task. You did an awesome job even though the daughter in law was thankless.
wow..that lady has some gall. She is most likely a hoarder and is unable to understand how her choices were unclean and possibly dangerous for consumption
You did an absolute amazing job! It is very obvious that by her final reaction she has some type of hoarding disorder and is unable to let things go. I hope she gets some therapy so it doesnt turn into a bigger issue because it was very unsanitary and unsafe considering those creepy crawlies were there. And ingesting old food isnt any better. Dont ever get discouraged by someone who isnt satisfied and ungrateful for your hard work. Its a deeper rooted issue that they need help with. You are amazing and i cant wait to see your next video! I always look forward to them!
@bambitrujillo4915 Thank you for your amazing support and kind words! I appreciate your understanding and empathy. Looking forward to sharing more videos with you in the future! 😊❤️
You are incredible! Of course you disposed of contaminated items of any sort. I would worry about mixes, rice, and any boxed items even in date, because hidden bugs could have crept in there. I guess she isn’t bothered by finding things. She had sooo many of each item. No one can use all that before expiration. There is something wrong when a person hoards so many of the same item. You were more than kind to do this for her. She clearly has money to buy tons of food. She could have paid for someone to clean and declutter it, but chose to take advantage of you, and then treat you rudely.
You did an amazing job. That lady should be grateful you took the time and energy, coz thats a lot of work. And yes, I'd have thrown out items touched by roaches nasty vile critters. 😊😊
I don’t belong to large shopping clubs because I know my tendency to over-purchase. That’s been vital for me to stick to my goal of minimizing and decluttering.

Looks like she's a food hoarder and was upset to see so much of her food was thrown out. I bet she put all of that expired food back in the pantry. You're right - anything that was sitting on the floor should have been thrown out because of the roaches, whether it was foil, ziplock bags, tote bags, etc. Roaches had probably crawled all over it and made it unsafe. You did a great job. Sorry the homeowner was unappreciative.

Renee, you are an absolute Saint for working so hard on this horrible situation, with fanastic results.....even though the lady didn't appreciate it. Yes, i would have absolutely thrown out everything that I even thought a bug had crossed or came in contact with. Also, in no way would i have jeopardized my children's health by leaving infested food or other items they could have contact with or would have eaten. You could have a great business helping people who would pay to get organized even though you do this for free and with so much kindness. Sometimes people just don't have the time they need or they are taking care of sick loved ones or in similar life situations, and just can't get to everything that needs doing. I guarantee you, help someone in this situation and they will be forever grateful.
@helenveasey7318 Thank you! Your kind words mean a lot. It's unfortunate when effort isn't appreciated. I share your perspective on prioritizing health and safety. Helping those facing challenges is rewarding. Your encouragement is truly appreciated!❤️
You did the right thing. I understand stocking a pantry, but when can't even get to stuff to use, what a waste. Not really saving time or money if ends up expired or germ ridden. You are a gem for helping her and for free!
Sounds like something that should have been discussed up front. Since she didn't pay, her going through all the bags is kind of like the job she should have done herself, to begin with. Ungrateful people, don't you just love them?
I really hate the homeowner didn’t appreciate all of your hard work! You did a great job on this pantry! Keep up the good work and videos! Thanks so much for sharing with us!!

Lady knew what Renee was going to clean and discard The lady’s aunt and uncle had their house decluttered by Renee months ago Lady was being pendatic and unkind Hate to see the rest of her house
Thank you for reminding me to straighten up my small pantry. With 6 in my house the pantry never gets that full to have so much in it. If she knew things were expired why didn’t she toss them? Oh because she couldn’t get in there. 🤦🏻♀️ You did a great job. Keep up the hard work.
O wow , looks really nice. How did she manage to even get in the pantry to put new in the back. Therpy needed , God bless her . Roaches eeee’ Exterminator already been there had issues already . Bless You !

I just came across your video. I couldn’t believe my ears when you mentioned the response you received to your hard work. Looking at the before and hearing what her concerns were, I thought right away, this is what a hoarder would say. Investing this much emotional energy into her items is a clear sign of hoarding. I hope she can get some support and with it the ability to adapt her thought process. I applaud your hard work and thick skin. Kudos to you!

I am so sorry you received a negative response to all of your diligent, patient work of going through each of her items, and spending hours helping her with this overwhelming room. As viewers, we can see some overbuying, and hoarding and procrastination tendencies which caused this mess and caused the roach infestation, things that have nothing to do with you. Resident is not accepting the consequences of her OWN actions. This is what happens when you buy too much, things expire, and they get infested and they have to be thrown away. My point is she could have made sure you came over on a day when she was home so she could guide you and tell you when she wanted to keep an item. Her NOT BEING PRESENT set you up for conflict. I would not be surprised if she brought trash back in, in typical hoarder fashion. You did a beautiful job, I cannot believe her reaction, when anyone would be SO grateful and happy with their organized clean pantry. This case reminded me of some of the hoarder episodes when the residents were unhappy with the results...same kind of thinking.
@@reneeshull You deserve so much more than words of support. You deserve millions of subscribers and I really hope that will happen soon. You speak so well and you have great skills. All the makings of a great channel!!
This is why you need to keep an organised pantry! I buy extra of stuff when it’s on special but I rotate and organise my food so it doesn’t get wasted! Yes some foods can go past expiration dates but some stuff not by much! Good job! Not your fault she didn’t rotate or organise her pantry! All on her!
@lessmesscleaning yes 10+ years is a bit too much! For me between 6months and a year depending on the product (ie canned food ok, Mayonnaise more the 6month mark) 💜💜
You did exactly what you should have done throwing them away! Also, I noticed she had paper bags in her pantry, and often paper bags can I have a roach eggs in them and cause a pest problem in your home. I would almost say that this woman had a hoarder tendencies, based on the volume of food she had in the pantry. Again, you did a great job. She should be thanking you instead of complaining.
Definitely seems to be a hoarder. My mom was one and she was so scared of getting rid of anything. Sounds like the homeowner needed someone there to keep her focused and accountable for her/family's health and safety. Too bad you couldnt take the trash with you, since she'll more than likely put it all back.
It's sad to see all the loss of money this family incurred by keeping everything so unreachable. You did a fantastic job making this a functionable pantry once again. Hopefully this family will grow from this loss. There are multiple people who can keep up with this pantry in this household.
You did an amazing job. If I had seen the roaches dead or alive everything would be gone. Then start fresh after the "bug lady" came and sprayed again. Take care❤
It breaks my heart that when kind people donate their time and effort to make other peoples lives better, they still have a complaint. When this happens to me, I just remind myself that I am here to glorify God. He sees what I’m doing and that’s all that matters to me. Bless you kind woman for making a difference.
I find it really hard to believe just 2 weeks prior they rotated the food 😳🤔🥴. I do believe there’s something not quite right with that. Fantastic job 👏👏👏 keep up the good work! ❤️😀
God lord you do a great job you inspire me a lot and no matter what you there will be always people that are not able to appreciate the work that under one’s that they do for them
Yes, you absolutely were right to toss any items that had cockroaches running across them. That pantry was bug infested because it had been a mess for a long, long time. You did those people an enormous service dealing with that gross mess for them.
Fantastic clean up Renee Love how you cleaned 🧼 and sorted out the pantry !!! Great video Loved the longer version because I wait and check every couple of days to see another video coming !!!! Well done 👍 Cheers 🥂 Australia 🇦🇺 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
70 trash bags of expired food indicates hoarding so home owner's displeasure of the job seems to go along with the hoarder's emotional attachment and unwillingness to get rid of stuff even if expired or roach presence. Homeowners minimalizing presence of roaches also a concern and trait of a hoarder. You did an AMAZING thing for this homeowner. Her final text to you says so much about her mental/emotional state and causes me to wonder what the rest of the home or her grade school classroom looks like. A job WELL DONE 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

What a transformation in this pantry. I’m sorry you had to encounter such negativity after all your hard work. I do think there is more to the background than you were told like serious hoarders. I’m glad to hear the husband appreciated all you did but as others have said I think a lot of it will be brought back into the pantry and it’ll be worse than when you started. You did an amazing job 🙏🏽 I can relate, I know someone who has hoarding tendencies and this is classic.
