i totally agree, he is also in my opinion, the youtuber ive seen that makes you feel like an actual friend talking to you, and not just "celeb" pandering to you are talking down to you
I suggest Japanese cherry trees on both sides all the way down to create an archway that has a very beautiful bloom once a year in May I believe. Like in Washington DC
I would say expand the driveway by 5 ft on both sides and then put solar lamps going down the driveway. Then finally, finish by hydroseeding and maybe planting some bushes or flowers. I think that would look nice.
This sounds like a really good idea to do. Maybe even planting some native fruit/nut trees, it'll make a good tradition later on in the years to collect them
you should plant a small orchard of some kind. either Cherry trees, or Peaches, Apples, etc. Also, when you start to bushhog, I'd recommend getting a Kubota. American Made, Japanese, very reliable. Would do great in pull your bushhog, my pawpaw uses one, and if you decide a different brand, my boss who I do lawnmowing and landscaping with, uses this Korean brand "Kioti" does the job as well.
Hubbie is an arborist, he said a shrub(whatever is best for that kind of soil, environment, etc) could be a good choice for lining the driveway. They are virtually unkillable, thrive on their own for the most part and would keep the weeds from growing out into the 20 ft area
Plant a native seed mix from roundstone native seeds. You can mow it once a year to control trees etc. Minimal maintenance and you can get the flowers and stuff in the mix.
I'm not sure what plants are native to that part of NC, but your local extension office or DNR should have some ideasfor native plants that you could put along the driveway to keep it looking nice and encourage wildlife.
Wild Flowers are weeds... Don't worry about it. Don't push out the wild life. Do decide where you want to have a safe path for driving/walking, and fill that in.
My husband and I are actually from a town in Virginia very close to Eden and seeing your videos really makes me miss my home! My husband is military and we haven't been to our hometown in 2 years, but hoping to go back in April 2024. I keep telling him how crazy it would be too run into you guys at cookout or something 😂
With a place like that I would have to say "video games? what video games?" I would constantly be outside doing something. Looks great though, everyone is doing an amazing work. Can't wait till it's all done.
I'm glad your wrist is healing well. I had get major surgery on mine in August and while it's not gonna be like it was, through more healing time and keeping up with excercises, things will be cool going forward. Thanks for sharing your dream home building journey with us. I always appreciate these uploads. Be well!
Thanks for doing this Lukie. I know you are busy with your other channels and this one probably doesn't produce anywhere near what those do, but just the opportunity to see you more behind the scenes and have you share a little bit of your life is amazing. You're a very entertaining guy :) Keep doing what you do and please encourage Genay to get on here and do her thing too. Would love to see more of her!
Can we get a plug for this channel on the gaming channel. I’m not one for IRL content, yet I’ve loved every video I’ve watched and more people need to see the beard 💪
Damn. Genay better watch out for Toonz. Ever since he got that electric bike, he's been wanting to jump off of any sort of inclination he finds on the ground. 14:19 Favorite part of today's video btw
Find someone local with a tractor and tiller they can rip that land in a day. Hydro seed it all up to 5 ft from the roadway and use the wild flower mix on that area. Similar to how States deal with roadways.
My dad worked with cement and we made 3 different patios and 2 different front walkways in all of the houses we owned as I grew up. We always did small cement segments so if something cracked, we could repair more cheaply. We also did 1 underground pool and a retaining wall.
Honestly a very cheap alternative for the sides of the driveway would be a thick layer of wood chips. Most arborists or tree companies have know where to dump there chips and have to pay to get rid of them. So you could possibly get all those loads of chips for free. If you just ask. And because you are helping them out. They will most likely bring a machine to spread them out for you… you can walk on them and drive over them. Plus they keep the weeds out if you keep a thick layer. Just an idea. Keep up the good work you guys!
24:00 I think you need an arch, a stone arch and gate leading up close to the house, something with your name on it "Cartoonz" would be epic, but at least a stone or castle arch... A moat would be sick lol
Solar lights all the way from the road to the house and garage would be nice. Don’t know what to plant, but you can buy retro movies lighted signs, like “get it at porkys” or “Als Diner” from happy days 😂😂
I accidentally got my bf super invested into yall and we are both desperate to see how the house is coming along! We miss you, we hope you had an amazing Christmas and start to the new year!!! ... NOW GIB US NEW VIDO OF HOME!!!!
I love seeing these updates. I didn't expect the driveway mulching to be done so fast, but I do think it looks nice & is smart. 28:10 caught my eye, something about the green in the trees & the orange ish red land on the right.💙
Sure, having trees along the road would be great for aesthetics. Just be aware of the potential of falling branches, especially large ones after a heavy rain or storm, which would become obstacles for vehicles & dangerous for your family. You may consider to plant these trees at a reasonable distance (perpendicular to the road) away from the road to avoid such issues. All the best brother!
I agree with those saying cherry blossoms on the side of the drive, but also, you may want to consider something like white clover for the ground level as it is inexpensive, covers well, and is very low maintenance as clover does not grow very tall.
If u are worried about the wild flowers encroaching the drive then line the drive eith large crush rock about 1 foot off and plant wildflowers. With as much as you are going to plant you can also get a tax write off for conservation and attracting butterflies and other insects that are healthy for the ecology , cuts down on mowing snd maintenance and looks really pretty too.
That was really interesting seeing how they cleared the sides of the drive. Really impressive equipment. Dips and whoops are pretty standard... but those really deep holes might just need some shovelling over time. Grading the entire property sounds pretty pricey
small pines for christmas lighting or even just for decor. Not full size pines, but the ones that only get 8 to 12 feet tall. Family and friends will get a kick out of it.
Its been a year or more since your first video and I watched it when it all started and I am so happy for you guys and how far it has come since, seeing you guys tearing down the house and building this new one and what not, it is looking really good right now, but will look even better in march/april, when you hopefully move in.
id personally go with creeping thyme or moss for the sides of the driveway low upkeep easy to manage and will keep the weed at bay. creeping thyme is also a perennial so it will come back every year no need to replant they also love sun and are Drout resistant.
decomposed granite for the front of that big garage would be perfect and its cheap id get that to help prevent water from pooling up and provide a flat surface for lower cars and they have several color options and treated and sealing options
About those gofer holes... It would be a lot of work but you could go around and place those small field flags at the holes for safety. Over the seasons of course...
Cartoonz thanks for all the great videos over the years and keeping me in high spirits and keep up the good work man, god bless you man, I can just relate to these videos, me and my family were building a house on some land but had to sell before we could finish it but everything is fine, god bless you man for getting me out of some hard spots with the good laughs, love ya man and I'm goanna keep praying for ya wrist god bless man.
If you can get native wildflower seeds the weeds shouldn’t be an issue! “Weeds” aren’t always bad! They will feed off of each other and provide lots of life to your ecosystem
Before you plant anything, I do think you should push another 10 feet on the right side (when you're coming in the driveway) of clearing, and then expand your driveway 10 feet wider. Makes it easier to pass vehicles going in and out. Then plant whatever you plan.
I just found your second channel. Only because of your comment that yoy went to the range day on demo's video. Excited to see all your content over here! Loving your lethal company run
Yes I am so excited to see how far this is coming along but I really can't wait to see it when it's done I am so excited y'all and u and genay would make some adorable babies just saying Nice job editor keeping up the traditional tag line 🎉🎉
I just keep thinking about a stream with fountains every 20-25 ft along the back edges of the drive. That would serve as a hard line against the weedy foliage you're looking to keep out, and it would be a fine water feature. You could get it programmed to lead the way as you go up the drive, and maybe colored lights...
The area you wanted to grow and are hardy you should try Apples are the hardiest of all the fruit trees so they are suited to most areas and localities and also useful for genay 😊
An entire driveway of Apple Trees would suck. Imagine the dents to cars or even skulls during ripening lol! Though a small orchard would be neat, might have to Post the land hunting laws pending.
Depending on when this was recorded, last night here it was around 40, high today was 48 with low winds. Two days ago it was below freezing at night. lol
This build is awesome, honestly a little extended on the driveway later for friends to come and go without riding the side would be cool, however looking up a directory or talking to an expert on the plant side of it would be awesome, also i like how inconspicuous your driveway looks, and the entrance cause it aint nobody's business to visit you, besides friends and family and colleagues that you allow over, so I'd make it blend in so people mind there buisness just wanna watch out for ya bud, because some fans are dumb and think its okay to come say hello, maybe get some cameras around the property for safe later.
Genay has a concealed carry permit too? Good stuff, must be reassuring to know you always got some backup out there. Wish I had me a pistol packin mama, you lucky dog!
I do not know if coconut and beetle nut grows in these areas since I'm from a different country but yeah they look really good and you do not need to maintain it a lot.
What if, you build that bmx park you wanted, but down both sides of the driveway? One for more like bikes and the otherside for dirtbikes lol would be siiiiick
