On October 2nd, 2008, 19-year-old Sidney Barber, an urban explorer, disappeared while investigating an abandoned research facility in Maricopa County, AZ. The area was searched by several different government agencies, all of which claimed that no trace of Sidney was found...15 years later, footage from Sidney's camcorder on the night she disappeared was leaked to the public by an unknown source. The following string of recordings have since become known as...The Sidney Barber Tapes.
The Backrooms/SCP inspired footage horror short film created by students at the Sidney Poitier New American Film School at Arizona State University.

@@briancathey498 After the video plays and she runs out of the room, it is supposed to be suggested that she is in a time-warp. The building itself is an entity, which is why she teleports to different rooms that shouldn't be there, why lights are on when they shouldn't be, for example when she runs down the stairs and opens the door, she is now in the elevator. I definitely think it could have been conveyed better on my part though!

Nice work! The recording really feels like it's from 2008, like a video you would find on old-era RU-vid -- it definitely adds to the immersion. I really liked the camera trickery as well, flipping around and suddenly being in a different location. I think the scares could be more effective if the monster was shown less and there was more buildup before each appearance, like little hints and fleeting sightings, maybe some sound effects for it. Overall, very nice and deserves more attention!

This was awesome. Honestly Found Footage Horror genre is such an underrated genre. I wish there was more movies done with it. It gives off the impression to the viewer that we are looking at things from the perspective of the protagonist. That makes the movie more immersive and scary.

Very true. Im bit of a film nerd and i try to make shorts and something in the last few years has realy spiked my interest in found footage horror. If you have not seen the VHS horror movies i suggest you check them. They are set in different years (85, 94, 2012,?) there is 4 of them so far

Overall, pretty well done. You did lose me a bit on the recording, though. No way a scientist doing work in the 50's would sound like a modern teenager. It's a bit nitpicky, but realism is a must for found footage.

It would be half and half because it wasn’t that long ago in reality. There are plenty of folks from back then who sound just like us with different slang. However, I can agree that a professional would sound a bit different tone wise and using certain words.

For me it was less the voice acting and more the audio quality. A 1950s audio recording simply wouldn't sound that crisp and clean. It's clearly a modern digital recording.

It has a "Blair Witch" feel to it, but for an "abandoned " government facility, it was well lit in the hallways! Some could say that the emergency generators come on at night, but you would think that it would be patrolled by the police/ government officials to keep trespassers away! Anyhow, nice job and this is better than the Blair Witch Project by leaps and bounds ( the original version, not the remake)! At least you see what is following her instead of a "disappointed " ending in Blair Witch ( no ghoulish appearance of the Witch herself). Bravo!

Good setting, good plot set up, liked the audio, lack of narration. Overall a good attempt, that for me, some missed opportunities would be some easter egg type clues, hidden in background, unnoticed, like the creature watching though one of the windows in the door as the protagonist walks by type of thing, and the fact, is, the monster wasn't scary. One of those things where less would be more. But I like what you're doing, just need a little more practice at it.

@@tjr_films_ that’s the goal for every filmmaker, get your vision out as best you can and hope the audience likes it as much as you do. You’re right there, and as a proof of concept, this was solid. More will come in time, but you’re getting fans on board, like me, and can’t wait to see what you do next! Keep at it! You got the talent, now you need to hone those skills! Edit: and sorry for not saying it earlier, the creature design was good, but when the nails wiggle like that, kinda took me out of the moment. Again, something like lighting might fix, sturdier material, etc. small easily fixable things

As a filmmaker myself, i really like how it was executed, the grainy look with no sound effects except that noise, keeping the illusion of unedited found footage style and the tension created by empty corridors (it reminded me of outlast).I was genuinely invested and terrified!

The "grainy look" is part of the analog horror style (486 lines interlaced NTSC, or DVD quality) and the "empty corridors" belong to the liminal space genre (Backrooms). "Found footage" is its own genre, too (Blair Witch), so the filmmaker has combined three styles into a single production. This is not particularly original, but it works here better than most other attempts. Very impressive.

I would love to work on a full length film! Right now, it is more time convenient to work on short films, but it is definitely a goal of mine to do a feature!
