FLIGHT THAI AIRWAYS A330-321 HS-TED "DON CHEDI"
HONGKONG (HKG) KAI TAK - SEOUL (SEL)
Summer time is flying time.
Winter time is editing time.
I am now starting to work on my oldest footages, starting in 1993, using Hi8 analogue tapes, partly heavily damaged. Quality is partially horrible and editing and scene cutting this material is a true nightmare. Nevertheless it is worth its while taking all the trouble to save these memories for the future.
I was living together with my family from 1994-1998 in Seoul, South Korea. Taking advantage of a duty trip to Thailand end of May 1996, we decided to explore some interesting places in Vietnam. This trip is nothing short from spectacular, taking you onboard twelve exciting flights ranging from the ultra-modern Tripple Seven to the tiny ancient yet noisy YAK-40 and TU-134 and a brief stopover at Honkong's Kai-Tak airport, one year before closure. I apologize for the occasional poor recording quality. I do not really care about the ratings of of my videos. Publishing these historic footages is my mission in the first place.
This video features flight #12 - the last flight on this trip -, onboard of Thai Airways Airbus A330-321 HS-TED from old and hopelessly overcrowded Kai Tak airport, on our way home back to Seoul. The Tripple Seven was planned originally on this leg, but there was an aircraft change to the smaller A330 and our original seats were gone. Nevertheless I managed to grab the required window seat for breathtaking Kai Tak footage.
History of Thai Airways Airbus A330-321 HS-TED "Don Chedi"
Airframe 064 was manufactured 1994 and registered F-WWKS.
Delivered to Thai Airways, February 3, 1995, registered HS-TED and named “ Don Chedi”. HS-TED was withdrawn from use and stored at Bangkok, December 30, 2014 and at Utapao (UTP), September 15, 2015.
Enjoy with me the Sights & Sounds of Classic Aviation.
Thank you for watching my channel.

Oh u would have loved Kai Tak. My first time landing there was overwhelming. I remember it so clearly. It was early in January and It was a night landing ( by Thai Airways). And it was like woooooooooooow we landed into a street right in the middle of this illuminating city. The plane was literally surrounded by tall buildings. Kai Tak was not a big airport ( juuuust a bit bigger than Don Muang, then Bangkok's only international airport) and it sure was crowded and super bustling. You would hear mixture of fast spoken Cantonese and English. And because it was a transit flight to Melbourne (and on to Auckland). We were told to quickly make our way to the designated Qantas gate. We just did not know where allllll the people walking up and down in Kai Tak were coming from or going where......

Kai Tak was a super fun and exciting airport. It stood for everything air travelling was all about. By the way, Thai's old livery projected more impactful corporate identity than the new one they r using. The gold color on the old livery was very shiny, and it brought out other colors so well.

Excellent Video and for the Thai Airways A330-321 it has an identical engine to a Korean Air & Asiana A330-323s a PW4100 engine. The newer TG A330-300s are the A330-343X variant like fellow Star Alliance Partners SQ AC CA LH & LX which also fly them.

This is an amazing video! 1996 a very nostalgic year for me. I was working for Northwest Airlines and went to Kai Tak. Also flew on TG that summer from BKK to DEL. Love the sights and sounds of your videos! Thank you.

I really appreciated these videos as it helps me piece together scant memory of flying as very young child in 90s!

From modern perspective, the waiting area of Kai Tak Airport was something like the waiting room of Beijing West Railway Station which is also a bit narrow...

Great catch in the end, with that PR 747-200 in interim livery. I believe it was just coming off lease from MEA (?), and was being taken over by PR.

There was no Star Alliance at that time, and Star Alliance was established in May 1997. Thai Airways International joined Star Alliance as a founding member after the establishment of Star Alliance.

Really want to see the full version of that safety video, don't know where to find the archive, don't even know if Thai Airways have ever kept it!

By any chance, have you checked here on RU-vid? They may even have a channel. If you do find it, perhaps you could send the information a link? Let's hope you can. Good luck.

Hi there, have you also been to Manila, Philippines? I hope so... we still got the same airport till now the one and only NAIA or Ninoy Aquino Int’l Apt before during 90’s we only have 2 terminals the international and domestic and only one airline our flag carrier Philippine Airlines, but now we already have 4 terminals (terminal 1- international, terminal 2- exclusive for Philippine Airlines, terminal 3- budget & terminal 4- domestic)

Back then such 5th freedom flights were more common . For example, TG also used to operate BKK/MNL/Osaka (Itami and later Kansai); for a while they also flew MNL/GUM. There are many other such examples.

@@josephsiaiowa MNL KIX was TG621/622 from BKK. If that were to be around now NH would simply codeshare on TG rather than PR408/412. Since my father has Royal Orchid Plus he knows that TG > PR
