ISKCON Bangalore will celebrate Panihati Mahotsava on
2 June 2023, 6.30 AM onwards, at Hare Krishna Hill, Rajajinagar.
The Panihati Chida-dahi Mahotsava is a festival of Gaudiya Vaishnavas, devotees of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Panihati Chida-dahi festival is celebrated primarily in the state of West Bengal, India. It is celebrated on the thirteenth day of the bright moon in the month of Jyeshta (May-June). The festival derives its name from "Panihati," a locality in Kolkata where it originated, and "Chida-dahi," which refers to flattened rice (chida) and yogurt (dahi).
The Panihati Chida-dahi Festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion. Devotees and locals come together in large numbers to participate in the festivities. The event typically starts with colourful processions, accompanied by singing, dancing, and the chanting of devotional songs. Their Lordships, Sri Sri Nitai Gauranga, are taken on a boat ride around the Kalyani of the temple. The atmosphere is electrifying, filled with spiritual fervour and joyous celebrations.
One of the highlights of the festival is the distribution of chida and dahi to everyone present. Huge earthen pots filled with chida and dahi are distributed to everyone, symbolizing the divine offering made by Raghunatha Dasa Gosvami. People eagerly line up to receive this blessed prasadam (sanctified food) and relish the unique combination of the sweetened flattened rice and yogurt.
