When this was in the theaters, Anthony Hopkins used to sit in the audience and watch people freak out when they realized Hannibal Lechter was sitting right next to them.
" I don't ever wanna have a conversation with Lecter.. He done got my dog... and now it's doing weird shit on the bed...' You're one of a kind my friend.!
Jodie got the WV accent down really well, especially because Starling is deliberately trying to soften her accent, to sound less twangy. So she's subtle with it most of the time, but when she's afraid, or angry, the accent becomes a little more pronounced, like she's less in control of herself. It's really great acting and dialect work.
Another great movie with Anthony Hopkins as a crazy guy is Magic (1978). He plays a killer ventriloquist. Also has Ann Margret, who you would remember as thr hot grandma from Grumpy Old Men.
Dude, you cracked me up man. " I understood why it won so many awards...but I'm not sleepin' tonight.". Hahahahaha. You had me cracking up through the whole movie. You're a funny dude bro. You have a deadpan way about you when you say stuff. Hehehe. Good reaction. 👍
It was what he said at the beginning about incredible hulking the bars to the cell that got me. Laughed so hard I literally had tears streaming down my face.
I totally agree with this. The reactions are so from the heart, the humor top notch, great observations, dog lover, family project with his "editor in chief" (lol), etc. This channel is going to grow but organically which may take a bit more than gimmicks and fake BS. When I get back on my feet I plan on supporting the channel and even requesting a movie of few from you. Stay motivated, stay energized and keep spoiling the heck outta dem dogs.
You are right: There is a BIG difference between a psychological thriller and jump scares with gore. It's why I love movies like this and Hitchcock's movies. Jump scares do make you jump but they aren't necessarily scary. Not the way this does.
I was 11 in the theatre (Dad took me to movies I *shouldn't* have been seeing.) _Everyone_ in the theatre just sat there as the credits rolled, stunned and terrified, while Hannibal casually sauntered into the world to be amongst us all. It was 🔥!
I was the same age, but my sister took me to see this. I think that she thought that I'd freak out, but she didn't sleep for a month after this movie. My dad had been taking me to horror and action movies for years by that point, so I was fine.
You absolutely *should* have been seeing it and you should be grateful you got to see one of the most iconic movies ever made in the theatre upon opening.
The Bone Collector is nothing like this movie other than the "cat & mouse" type of plot except Dr. Hannibal Lector is the actual cat in the movie, he's not the mouse , hes in complete control from beginning to end & even in the next film after it!!!!! He's not only a serial killer or a cannibal, hes a actual doctor & most of all hes a renouned psychologist which is the most terrifying thing about him & the last thing u ever could want any serial killer to could ever actually be!!!!! Hes not just a serial killer, hes a fuckin mastermind menace to society!!!!! Atleat to the rude ones lolz
The reason Buffalo Bill said, "it puts the lotion on its skin" is because he needed to de-personalize a woman so he could kill "it", not "her". Hannibal was never going to give up what he actually knew, but his best clue to Clarice was one word: "Simplicity." Back in the day, the Simplicity company was the biggest dress-sewing pattern maker in the world...perfect for someone sewing a girl suit out of real girls.
@tdali8347 that was so brilliant I never noticed the reference to simplicity clothes patterns I do remember the from when I was a child, so cheers for freaking me out all over again.
I loved it every time you predicted that Hannibal was going to eat Dr Chilton before the end of the story. You musta mentioned it 5 or 6 times. Well done. Loved your reaction. ❤ Love from Ireland 🇮🇪
"Hannibal is gonna haunt my dreams the rest of my life & I am a grown man." 🤣 It goes away eventually, man, it may take a decade.😵💫 Great & hilarious analysis.
Dude... I have never watched one of your reactions before. Just landed here due to the algorithm but staying for you. I had a real shitty day but thanks to you I sit here laughing tears Thanks a mill! 😘 Liked and subscribed 🔔👍 .... guess I will have to binge your reactions now ☺️
Hopkins was perfect to play this character. I can't imagine anyone else doing it. I can't think of the movie but they made one explaining why Lector is the way he is. The actor studied Hopkins so he could get the mannerisms right playing a young Lector. Would love to see you react to it because it really explains why he is that way
"I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti." is a famous line from this movie but most people don't realize the significance of it. The drugs he would have been treated with have 3 foods you are not allowed to eat while taking. Liver, beans and wine. Basically he is admitting he went off his meds and thus could eat him.
Also, the teeth sucking he does after he says that was not scripted.. his aim in the scene was to unnerve Jodi foster to get a real "flustered" 🤷 (I guess a good a word as any) reaction as she knew the 'words' were coming, but not the accompanying aforementioned teeth sucking.. I think he succeeded.. absolutely top tier psych thriller, one of my all time faves 💯👍
People can debate "What's the best action movie ever" "the best comedy", "the best drama", etc. But there's no doubt...this is the best Psychological Thriller ever.
@@wfly81well I think it's more Hannibal's romantic obsession with Clarice, which is elaborated on in the sequel. He cut off his own hand in the sequel to save Clarice's life (in the movie). She could never feel that way about him, of course. How terribly unnerving and disturbing when a serial cannibal killer is "in love" with you.
According to Brooke Smith (Catherine), she and Ted Levine (Buffalo Bill) got along really well during the filming. Once on a lunch break, she asked him what he did to prepare for the part, as he went into the audition with the same maniacal energy. He said he wasn't really sure what to do, so all he did was drink about eight or so cups of coffee.
@@mimikurtz2162 😂😂😂 reminds me of when I was about 18-20. Literally had the coffee pot on at all times-- and always strong as hell. Have you seen the Dave Grohl mini documentary "Fresh Pots"? It's absolutely hilarious. It's a spoof of the show "Intervention", where the band mates are talking about Dave Grohl's actual addiction to caffeine! It shows him actually obsessing over coffee and just going nuts on caffeine, while he doesn't really know that the filming is about his coffee addiction. It is absolutely hysterical! You can find it on RU-vid.
Ya know, using the relevant icons from the movie themes (moth here, egg for alien, bowling pin for Lebowski) is just another thing that sets you apart from the others. And that's aside from making us laugh while watching horror movies. 😆 Go big, buddy. Well done. 20:56 🤣🤣🤙
Not only did she graduate, she got promoted to "special agent" status straight from training. That is quite the leap, but bringing down a notorious serial killer will earn that.
The guy playing Buffalo said he was stretching himself as far as he could in his acting to just try to be memorable compared to Anthony Hopkins. Hell, Anthony Hopkins kind of gives me chills in his NON horror roles. He's soooo intense.
Absolutely a legend. One of my fave actors. Even watched the rite with him in it. Unfortunately, it was a boring and terrible movie even with the one crazy scene. As good as he is, he couldn't save that film sadly. Majority of his movies are good though and he is of course too.
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, lived there until a few years ago. I knew people who were extras, my former mentor's car is in the background of a scene, and my childhood museum was where Clarice met the bug dudes. I watch this movie once a year, usually when I get homesick- which is weird for a movie about a skin-suit making serial killer lol
Two things: one, when the killer was telling the girl in the well to use the lotion but was referring to her as "it", he was doing exactly the opposite of what later Clarice notices the girl's mother was doing, which was to force himself to see his victims as things, not people. The senator kept referring to her daughter as a person with a name, with a personality, with a life of her own; some-one, not some-thing. The killer, however, was dehumanising her. And two, when he starts screaming after she screams, he's mimicking her, trying to act, sound and be like her, which was his entire motivation. It's also important to note that the movie underlines that he wasn't actually a trans person, he just persuaded himself he was, likely out of some deeper issues regarding self-loathing mixed with a clear mental deviation. I haven't read the book this was base on, but I've seen an essay where they noted that portion of the story is more developed. It's interesting to see you're the kind of person who understands how creepiness and terror are different from loud bangs and bloodfests when it comes to _really_ scaring you beyond the timespan of the movie. Being afraid isn't being startled, it's being in a constant state of anxiety, stress and angst long after the story is over. I think you're ready for Ari Aster's stuff, and maybe some Robert Eggers when you're feeling happy enough not to be too weirded out later 😄. But when you get around to that, get those dogs some ear muffs (for their own protection), sit between them and hug them close. Their movies are definitely more uncomfortable than the usual stuff we get for big audiences.
I'm just going to have to agree to disagree with you on the "he wasn't actually a trans person, he just persuaded himself he was" line. In case you haven't been paying attention to the left lately, apparently, if you THINK you're something ... in this case, a Trans, then you ARE it (i.e. a Trans). He was also doing it for the same reasons as Trans people do it for, just in a much creepier way.
@@EOMReacts he didn't sexually harass her finger like you thought. He did that to show her that even though he's done the things he's done and he could have attacked her in that moment he chose not to. That was a period of time that you chose to show his humanity and tenderness towards her. It was a sign from him to her almost of respect and closeness for showing him decency and treating him with a level of humanity. Remember, she's not the only one who's ever been in there trying to get information out of him. She is however the only one he gave to information to even though she's very green. She proved herself to him and never spoke down to him as if he was just A CASE, even though she was working THIS CASE. She approached him as an equal, so that touch was actually one of genuine appreciation from him to her. 😉 #NYGENXBIKERLADY
@@EOMReacts Honey... when you're ready~there IS a sequel to this. It's just called Hannibal, and there's a major change in a cast member is all I'm going to say. I don't want to sway your opinion one way or another about it going into watching it. #NYGENXBIKERLADY
What you said beginning @ 7:00 had me dying! Oh my word you had me in tears! After I could breathe again, I clicked the subscribe button. It's been a minute since I laughed that hard, thank you!
Anthony Hopkins was a commanding character in this movie and won awards for his portrayal. The thing is, his on screen time totaled a whole 20 minutes……
1. This thing snagged all 5 of the big OSCARS 2. IRL you're wasting your time trying to pick that up. She doesn't do men. 3. Lt. Boyle also played "Murdock I'm commin' to get you". Rambo II 4. Ted Levine actually got death threats for the performance he did playing Buffalo Bill. 5. The FBI actually let them use Quantico. 6. The lisping following "I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti." was ad lib to see if she would freak out. It was the first scene thy did together and it worked. 7. Thank you for making "Silence of the Lambs" fun. 8. The term I have for this movie is "Mind&@*$"
Lecter was so disgusted at what Miggs did to Starling, he undertook psychological warfare on him and by morning Miggs had choked to death, he'd swallowed his own tongue.. they were right, you don't want Dr. Lecter in your head.. Starling was never in danger of Lecter paying her a visit when he escaped, they had developed a sense of raport, a mutual fascination, also, Dr. Lecter had standards when it came to eating people, when at all possible, he chose to only eat people who were disrespectful or had bad manners.. 😋😁🤐 Bill is obviously a troubled soul, he refers to the girls he kidnaps as 'It' to dehumanise them so as not to get attached, an ever present reminder of their purpose and his goal. The scene of him looking down at her, when she screams and he screams back in almost a mocking way, he is actually trying to imitate her, remember he is trying to 'become' female, so he is learning mannerisms, trying to imitate her.
There was one thing they changed from the book that I think they should've kept. The opening of the book was Clarice and her friend practicing room clearing, with Clarice clearing and her friend as the bad guy. Her friend had her dead to rights, but pulled the hammer back on her dummy gun, which gave Clarice the opportunity to turn around and fire, which was setting up how she killed buffalo bill at the end, despite him having the advantage.
Anthony Hopkins (Hannibal) give such an amazingly creepy performance in this one. It's said that during his table read/audition he gave everyone in the room the creeps. One member of the room (can't remember who) said it felt like his skin was trying to crawl off his body and he never wanted to leave a room that bad in his life LOL. If you can get over the gore it's a brilliant movie with some incredible performances. I love plot, the story line, the more deeper or imaginative the better and serial killer movies are a goldmine for that. One of the best and most creative movie like this, besides this one of course, is Seven. I highly recommend Seven, the basic plot line and how it plays out is truly a amazing piece of genius. Morgan Freeman puts on an incredible performance and Brad Pitt was robbed of an Oscar for the ending "box" scene. It's a must see. Peace
There are movies that I wish I could see again for the first time in order to get that feeling again and I love watching reactors to experience it through them. Yours watching this movie was one of the better ones. I loved when you kept saying "I hope he eats him" and knowing what was coming made it funnier. I've watched a couple of your videos but am about to do a deep dive into your reactions and am looking forward to it.
I feel that same way editing. I love to live vicariously thru him seeing them for the first time. LoL Let us know in the comments what you think. And glad to have you on board.
The head in the jar was done by printing a photo and securing it to the inside of the jar. Then filling it with water or other liquid. Simple practical effect but very effective
“I don’t know why you yelling for anyone that you’re cool with. They’re dead.” Honestly he is my whole mood on this. Like I’m leavinnnnng! I want no part of this nonsense.
new to your channel mate and I love your reactions, have never laughed during this movie but you had me cracking, the line ‘why did he sexually assault her finger’ bought tears to my eyes I laughed so hard😂😂😂
Has to be the ONLY time I’ve laughed though Silence of The Lambs🤣🤣🤣 You are too much fun to watch a film with!!!❤️ When this came out in theaters I got so unnerved (nice way of saying freaked out I made my former husband go call the babysitter to make sure all was well🤦♀️😝 And yes… from a pay phone. I’m old😩 Fantastic reaction- again!! Stay safe & love much💖
This is one of my favorite reactions to this movie. So observant, so FUNNY! I saw this in the theater when it came out. One of my most memorable audience experiences. I didn't sleep great that night, either.
You just popped up in my recommendations tonight and I'm very glad you did. You're so much fun and your dogs are awesome. Got yourself a new sub! I'm lookin' forward to hangin' out with you more.
I love his character he is such a intellectual being with such a great culture knowledge. You should watch the second movie. Greetings from France 🇫🇷 love the pitties 🤍🙏🏻 Also the camera angle in this movie is really smart for us to feel uncomfortable. Jodie and Anthony such great actors .
Anthony Hopkins starred in a movie called Magic back in the 1970s. It’s a great psychological drama worth reacting to. The trailer for that film is creepy af.
The story was partly inspired by the time the FBI asked serial killer Ted Bundy to create a profile for the green river killer and when they finally arrested him bundys profile was pretty accurate, the part where bill pretends to have a broken arm is what Bundy would do to get women to help him and then he would hit them over the head and pushed them in his car. Bill was also inspired by killer Ed Gein who would use the skin of dead people to make lamp shades and gloves and various other things. People always freak out about her getting close to the glass but it was probably thick plexiglass and not normal glass because it would be too easy for him to break. I found out recently that the actor who played Bill and the actress who played Catherine actually dated while filming the movie.
the audacity, of uttering those words, ''I hope he eats him''. that was too funny. I'm fairly certain he's not even the first to make that statement, which is even funnier, considering what a monster Hannibal is; but everyone hates Chilton, so he'd be doing the world a favor
Same here. When he first said he hopes he eats him I did a fist pump in the air and let out a "yeah!" because I knew he'd get his gratification in the end. And then he says he was pumped it was going to happen, lololol. Really glad I subbed. There are so many great films for you to see and us to join in on I can't wait. It's gonna be great. And you may not love them all, nobody really can, I don't think. But the ride will be great. Give momma and the pups some love and treats in that order.
So how were the nightmares after watching this ? LMFAO ... The terror in youre eyes when you realized he was wearing that dudes face , PRICELESS lol great reaction dude
In the book Clarice actually goes out with the scientist guy who was flirting with her, and they end up dating each other. So as cheesy as the approach was, you cannot go wrong with beer.
Yes, i always remember the book ending, Clarice cuddled up with scientist guy in a big bed with the guys 4 big dogs laying on the bed too. Its a nice ending that shows she gets some comfort and happiness after all she's been through.
First off this is one of my favorite movies!! Second do you remember the episode of Family Guy when Chris was dancing is front of the mirror….if not guess what it comes from this movie lol “would you do me, I’d do me, I’d do me so hard” 😂😂😂
I remember seeing this at the cinema when it released. That night I was simultaneously too scared to sleep with the light on or off, I was too scared to sleep at all.
"I'm not sleeping tonight." 🤣🤣 When I saw this, I was so freaked out, I thought I needed to watch another movie to calm down enough to sleep....my next selection that evening was Sleeping With the Enemy. That pretty much finished my nerves off completely. I didn't sleep for several nights. I was home alone for heavens sake. You HAVE to try Sleeping With the Enemy 😱
Great review my friend. Your reaction did not disappoint! A lot of people have no words for some of these scenes. Lol. I wonder if Oden of Asguard and father of Thor ever did his little jail cell hiss for anybody on the set of the marvel movies while in costume. 😂 I would have paid to see that! He is a creepy dude for sure! Great job my man! 👍
I LOVE watching these movies with you! I love when you say what I’m thinking. Even the most horrifying movies are comical with your comedic commentary’s! They’re truly funny because it’s not forced or scripted. You’re literally saying what you’re thinking about trying to be funny. I appreciate you!
Thank you I truly appreciate that. And the fact you get I’m just saying what’s on my mind is awesome bc people always asked me am I trying to be funny. Lol and I tell them I’m just as shocked as you are by what comes out my mouth bc I’m just saying what I’m thinking
been randomly binging this channel. I've gotten in enough to go to the beginning of the videos i like. for you as a new channel, welcome. for some odd reason i've found myself liking reaction videos. you are a good one. keep it up. and the pups.....those are some good pups you've got there.

@@k333rl We’re risk takers here. LoL We may not get to everything but we like seeing if some things get requested more than others and try to bump them up.
Love your reactions bruh and your dogs are cute aswell 😄Hopkins and Foster both got the Oscar btw! There are more films aswell. "Hannibal" is the next film, very brutal but very good aswell. And "Red Dragon" plays before this film here!
Really appreciate it. Very possible you see other films from this series pop here here, but if not, they definitely will on the patreon page we are still sorting out.
Algorithm brought me here. Since you are doing some classic horror/suspense stuff I highly recommend "The Exorcist". Loved the reaction, you're a funny dude. I've watched many of these reactions and NOBODY has said "good aim though" when multiple Migs threw his seed in her face. New subscriber.
The Exorcist is 100% on the list. It’ll be here at some point for sure. Be sure to check out our Alien, Aliens, and Se7en reactions for sure if that’s your genre. We appreciate the support!!
If you read the book the movie came from it will tell you how Hannibal Lecter could figure out so many things about Clarice Starling in just a few moments. Lecter knew perfume smells from the magazine inserts he got in his cell. When Clarice opened her purse, a puff of air that smelled like her perfume came out, and Lecter could identify it.
Great reaction, bud. 👍 20:28 Lecter will have placed the drawings all over the table purposefully so there is nowhere to place the tray and he then asks the officer to mind them in the gentlest, kindest voice which is disarming psychologically. Subtly manipulating what the guy is going to do with the tray and where he is going to place it. 23:39 The guy playing that SWAT officer is Chris Isaak, a famous musician. He rocks! Some of his songs have great Pulp Fiction / Quentin Tarantino soundtrack vibe to them. Check out; Baby did a bad bad thing. You owe me some kind of love. Heart shaped world. Speak of the devil. Blue hotel. 24:36 Amen, brother! ♥😅
Loved that Hannibal used inspiration from the vikings to emphasize the brutality of his kills for psychological warfare reasons ( same as them ), and the best example of that is the cop he strung up like a blood eagle ! The only difference being the cop was already dead while the vikings did that to you while you were still alive but still.
