The exposition from others talking about hannibal is brilliant & why him just standing still in a cage is awesome bc we dont know what to expect & here's this well kept man just calmly standing as all the other patients we see are just scary. Very interesting about the different scene goals of lecter & clarice in their 4 meetings.

I just finished the book and couldn’t believe how faithful the movie was. Probably my favourite adaptation. The film arguably bests parts of the book. “Toughens your nipples” was added for climactic effect whereas in the book it was a less dramatic moment.

The book is excellent. Thomas Harris has a great sense of storytelling.

another thing about character introduction (i believe another video has mentioned this) is the sequence during the hallway when clarice is about to approach lecter. we see the first three patients, each one crazier than the last. the first one we see is only creepily saying "hi", while miggs moves inhumanly around his cage and say vulgar things to clarice. along with the previous buildups you guys mentioned, the audience might expect hannibal to be some sort of a regan mcneil-esque psychopathic killer. but instead the screenwriter shattered the expectations by showing lecter being the most well-packaged one, inducing primal fear in the audience. and this well-packaged facade is resolved during the escape sequence, showing the true capabilities of lecter, which at that point was only talked about, not shown explicitly.

Script Sleuth Nice work man, and what a great movie to analyze. How about The Fisher King -that’s a film I myself have been picking apart for the sake of my own writing; I’ve even taken to a spreadsheet to dissect a lot of the film’s concepts. That analysis isn’t quite complete yet, but upon taking a very close look at the film, some of the realizations are just absolutely staggering -it’s well worth a close examination.
