Probably not the kind of feedback you used to getting but I have to thank you. Watching your series have gotten me a date. I have a friend of a friend who is Jewish and I've got a bit of a crush on them. I went to visit the place were my friend and they work, and when I came they were telling my friend about Jewish holidays. I joined the conversation and the topic shifted very rapidly from Jewish holidays to Jewish history and because I watch your videos I was able to contribute quite a bit to the conversation. I was especially able to talk about Jewish communities in Central Asia India and China which they weren't really that familiar with And when I asked if they wanted to go out next Friday they said yes. That video on the Hebrew family tree was my introduction to the channel, and I loved it, as someone who spent two years studying linguistics. I'm sorry you're embarrassed by it, but from my perspective at least, it was good.
I found this channel from the algorithm, it's really great because I never really knew Jewish history before. Now it's arguably my favorite part of history! It's so interesting to see the way jewish law and leadership worked, and how it retained those to a degree even when there was no longer a centralized state or even a proper territory. That's really unique.
I found my way here as another victim of the algorithm! But it really is insightful to see so much of the history I'm vaguely familiar with through another lens. It's refreshing.
If your biggest concern is that the language video would be viewers' first introduction to your channel, would you be open to keeping it unlisted but linking to it from a future video? I would love to watch it, "boring", "mistake-ridden", and all! Anyway, I love your videos and I'm excited to see how you tackle future topics!

As always, great historical diamonds in the rough. Before this channel I had a few dirty, grimy faulty historical assumptions leading me to cynically discount "all those '6 degrees of separation' as not really being a thing". All these tidbits, connecting distant dots through grounded documentation, really does add up to a much clearer, less mucky worldview of the human past. Ex.: The chinese nationalists & the nascent PRC Army BOTH had committed jewish generals to their respective causes: mind blown, dude. Outstanding stuff, keep it up.
Hi Sam, thanks for the great work you are doing. Just a couple of comments, 1. Mahalla simply mans suburb. 2. You mentioned the conversion of Jews to Baha’i faith, this has been very interesting and puzzling to me, I can not comprehend why after denying Jesus and mohammad for thousands of years despite all the troubles, they would convert to Baha’i faith that claims to be a continuation of Islam and Christianity, just to downgrade your social status from being a minority to an extremely prosecuted minority. Some has said that they were afraid that they may get exiled to Israel, and by conversion, they wanted to stay in Iran. 3. Another small group of totally neglected Jewish population of Iran are the Russian ashekenazim who migrated to Iran. I have found/met two examples, one family converted to Baha’i faith, and the other went down the anousim way, and gradually assimilating and forgetting who they were. 4. Another group of Iranian Jews are johouris living in today’s Azerbaijan. I think that can be the subject of a video by itself. 5. While talking to a historian, he mentioned there are many villages in Iran with Hebrew biblical names, but in most cases the historical connections are lost over time.
So given that you're talking about mistakes and how your videos faire: please consider blending in texts, lists, quotes longer. They are sometimes on screen only for two blinks. One can't always pause and i don't think anyone can read that fast. I don't mind if you talk over it, about the next thing, just don't switch the visuals, if not necessary. I've experienced this over and over. 5 extra second and i would have learned something, yet there comes a cut, have to rewind, pause, not cool, especially on the fire tv app blending in an overlay while paused.
Hopefully he'll do that one soon. I seen a YT channel that claims that the Garden of Eden was in the Philippines. It's reference in the Scriptures as OPHIR. Where King Salomon got the gold for the Temple. Also other materials were sourced from there.

Once you get back to the main timeline, will you talk about Ottoman Jewry (Hakham Bashi, HaRishon LeZion etc.)? Or are you going to focus solely on Ashkenazi Jewry (HaBaal Shem Tov, Hassidism and so on)?
As you know, I don't like to talk about my future plans because they may change unexpectedly. However, the Jewish community in the Ottoman Empire is pretty calm at this point and there won't be much to talk about, so the next time I revisit the Sephardic community, it will be in a *very* different part of the world.
@@SamAronow I was noticing that it was still a bit after 1492 that the Ottomans took the Levant and I'm curious if there was a significant migration of Sephardim, who having come to Anatolia on those ships sent to Spain by the Sultan, then began to move from Anatolia to Palestine, once it was part of the same country they lived it? Also, were they full Ottoman citizens?
Frankly i think all documentary-style videos and films should start with "greetings foolish mortals" because i refuse to believe there is any better way to get your viewer's full attention.
