This is The Simpit Driving School Lesson 2. This lesson is all about accelerating the vehicle at maximum speeds as well as threshold braking. Some people think that you just slam the gas pedal to the ground to get the car going, but there are things you can do to even maximize your starts and you corner exits. We also go into great detail about braking focus on threshold braking and getting your car stopped in the shortest amount of distance safely.
We will follow this episode with more lessons getting increasingly more difficult over time. To comment on this video please visit our website at www.thesimpit.com

A good trick is to turn the tire sounds to max and lower all other sounds so you can hear the tires better. You can even change the pitch of the "squeel" in gmotor based sims and others im sure. Keep up the good work Sim Pit!

Great show Shaun ! This is exactly what a lot of sim racers need !

You do not want to use the Motor Brake ever. It only unsettles the car and doesn't let you slow down faster. Use the brake pedal to decelerate.

Love the intro, last f1 sound clip is quite loud though.

Great video, Shaun Something that fundamental must be know, accelerating and braking old mentor said about turbo charged cars, "push on the gas pedal as if you have raw egg under your foot", then I said, how about a hard boiled egg, then he gave me that look with a smile.... about panic braking, I've forgotten, mainly every time I am in situation of panic braking, my mind goes completely blank of what he had told me, I am only thinking about stopping. but, your right, locked brakes take longer to stop the car. now if I could slow down with out getting into a panic oh yeah, don't over drive the brakes, he was always saying that, didn't understand until it was happening. trust me you'll know it when your over driving your brakes..... until next time

Hi Shaun. I was watching racing videos and I notices that some of them were pressing the gas pedal while downshifting. Could you please explain why and how to master this technique?

HI Shaun, I liked your newest video Please Keep Them Coming Our Way. I’m wanting to get a new wheel and wondering what wheels you use and if you might recommend a GOOD Wheel. I was looking at a ECCI (used of course) But, that fail though. I’m also looking at a TSW (Thompson Super Wheel) I don’t use FFb on the Ovals. But, I like a Little on the Road Courses. I’m also looking at the Fanatec Clubsport Wheel Base w/ GT Rim too. Any information on a Good Quality Wheel would be Much Appreciated. Thanks So Much for any Info on this Shaun and God Bless

what pedals were used in this video Shaun? May seem a silly question, but interesting to see the brake force applied, im struggling to adapt to my clubsport pedals at the moment so am trying different methods of braking, although there's not too many, only about 2 or 3 :P I'm just not used to the spring effect im used to g27 potentiometre (i think that's what it's called/how you spell it)

With the clubsports, you really need to play with the sensitivity dial. One of my kids tricks is to turn it all the way to 10, and me crashing into the wall at turn one with no brakes. I have mine down all the way, start here and increase the force required to the point where your comfortable.

Great Video Shaun. Very clear, well illustrated, right direction. I can't wait for you (or a guest depending on your skills) to go over Oval racing. I am always the slowest racer on track in ovals. But in road racing I am always at worse midfield to top 10. I never understood what I am doing wrong. Likely overdriving but if I don't I am even slower. So I am counting on you to teach us oval racing :)

I appreciate the effort The Simpit is putting in to this, but is the pace going to pick up? 3 "lessons" in 4 months, isn't really doing much for my lamentable driving in rfactor2 or Asetto Corsa. Could we hit the accelerator just a little bit harder?

Hey great video Shaun, really looking forward to the rest of the series. What would you suggest to practice everything you're teaching? Perhaps you could suggest exercises with cars/ tracks to get us started? Thanks!

Just use a lower power car and go from there, pick a bit more techincal track and just put in some laps. That's the easiest way. Technical tracks force you into proper racing cause otherwise you just wipe off the road. As for what sim, just pick one that you like, it doesn't really matter that much. If it's a true sim it will be good to practice. I like playing Assetto Corsa caus eit has a feel of a real car instead of that icy feeling you get in every other sim. But like I said, pick the sim you like and you're used to so you can focus on actual practicing rather than dealing with the sim itself. Good luck! :) Also don't break too late (it's a common mistake as ppl think that later you brake faster your laptime will be, but that is far from the truth). Far more important than entry speed is exit speed. So first learn that, and remember slow in fast out. Probably a best advice someone can give you in just 4 words. Another great advice is "smooth is fast". If you keep those two things in mind you'll do great. BTW, leave the car setup alone while you're practicing (use the default setup). Many ppl make the mistake and try to set up a car before they even drove a mile. When you're practicing always use the default setup (I don't mean when you practicing for a race, just plain "racecraft" practicing). That way you are actualy using the inherent balance of the car which is far betetr for someone that is learning the ins and outs of simracing (or racing in general). Hope it helps a bit.

Love your vids, am very much a fan. Just a quick question, is there a reason you wear shoes when playing. Do you get the same amount of feel through your feet as with just socks?

i did a lot of training on braking in old rfactor mod the AE86 n2 2.01SP, and it helps me alot to learn on braking, and i agree that we're need to find the best spot on tires to do great braking :)

Great video Shaun. Became a fan from your old work but really enjoying all The Simpit videos. Also looking forward to more in the future. My question relates to gear shifting. I am fairly new to simracing currently focusing on iracing but have f1 2013 and nascar 2013. (I wont mention nascar 2014 :( ) . My question is in real life as in sims I have always driven automatics. So have never driven a stick. I am trying to work out is it best for me to jump in to sims and try to learn a stick, or should I use say paddal shift. OR just run the car in auto. Would I lose time doing this. What would you recommend. Thanks for the content and keep up the good work
