Hey Joe, hope you're well buddy..? Since upgrading to a camera with face detection I don't know myself, best thing ever. That and auto ISO. Used a Canon 5d mark ii for years, I love it but not really a street friendly camera with no frills at all. Very basic. Quality video as always pal 👍😊👊

I shot time ago a set of photos in mid light and shadows, in raw + jpeg. When I wanted to push the shadows I found that it is almost the same the raw and the jpeg, and same amount of grain. With the Ricoh GR III (you can check it). But I found I much preferred the final look tweaked over the jpeg than in raw (because on the raw I cannot get exactly the simulation built in the Ricoh). I also find that todays software manages extraordinary well temperature and tint, even for jpegs. So have stoped shooting in raw even when I need extreme edition (and not regrets at all, and saving tons of space and better file management). Need to be said that for both the Ricoh and my Fujis I start with a very natural and dynamic recipe, easy to adjust if needed (If my liking was extreme instagramish teal & orange, I wouldn’t do that, that’s uneditable in post). I also found tons of data in current 40mp Fuji jpgs, particularly when I want to recover highlights and shadows (much more than with the old 26mp sensor).

Thanks for the comment. I’m glad to hear that you are getting some results editing JPEGs . I personally wouldn’t do it simply for the fact that.Editing JPEGs degrades image quality with each save due to lossy compression, so I prefer using RAW files for greater flexibility and better results in post-processing.

I use center spot and back button focusing. I either prefocus on a location in the scene that I am expecting my subject to walk through, or I move the center point of the frame to my subject, hit the focus button on the back of the camera, then recompose and hit the shutter release button. I was skeptical of back button focusing when I first learned of it, but now I swear by it.

That’s a great setup. I’ve used back button focusing before when I used my A7R3 for street photography. 👍

saw some suggestions using fast focus and slow shutter like f9 / 10 seconds/ iso 100, to get sharper image, is that the opposite of your advice?
@joeredski

10 seconds will give you a blurred image. Even at 1 seconds the shutter will be open for too long and you will most likely get a blurred shot. You could shoot like that if your camera is on the tripod, but definitely not if you’re holding your camera and out shooting .

@@joeredski I meant on a tripod, in which case I think the image may be sharper as the fast shutter speed is generally for that purpose.

A photo taken on a tripod with a long shutter speed can be extremely sharp, especially for stationary subjects and when environmental conditions are controlled. A handheld photo with a fast shutter speed can also be sharp but is more dependent on the photographer’s ability to hold the camera steady and the speed of the subject. Shooting at slow shutter speeds will not give you sharper or less sharp results than shooting handheld at fast shutter speeds. You just won’t be able to freeze subjects at slow shutter speeds.

Quite unfortunate that my ZV-E10 doesn't have a setting for the minimum shutter speed when shooting in the aperture priority mode. Makes me stick to the full manual mode all the time. Feels like I'm missing out on some quality of life of the modern cameras.

Sorry to hear that man. You can get any shot you want with manual mode, day and night. You don’t need Auto ISO to get great shots. Thanks for the comment 👍
