Love these things. I use them on grape vine arbor wire, cable clotheslines, small guy wiring and on electric and non-electric single strand fencing wire. For barbed wire you probably got to trim the barbs down so not to overfill the strainer spindle.

I use the little baby version of that for holding my winter cover on my above ground pool. Mine is exactly the same except, mine is smaller, mine is painted black, mine comes with its own crank and BONUS… mine is guaranteed to pinch your skin every time you use it! Do you want me to send you a link so perhaps you could do a comparison? It came free with my premium pool cover so you might have to buy one of those. So, you can get the cover, one coated cable and one hand pinching ratchet for about a hundred bucks. Are you in?

What keeps the wires from sliding up or down the steel post? Overtighten and you have an angled end post. I have used those ratchet strainers on concrete fence posts and they do work great!
@SWiFence
@SWiFence 2 года назад
You could double wrap the wire attached to strainer causing it to grab and keep from sliding up or down the post.

I was going to use this method with a 172 foot stretch with h braces at each end but there is one issue. If I loop and crimp a strainer for each wire it will run at the center of my termination posts and run along side the opposite post. Would that intersect my diagonal wire for my h brace and then run against the outside of the inner posts of my h brace? Or would you think it would be best to just terminate both ends with a termination knot so that the wire runs along the out side of the h brace posts? Your input would be much appreciated. 😊

In my mind I feel like you could offset the ratchet strainer to the one side so it doesn't touch? You might have to get a bit creative on terminating the ratchet.

Much cheaper to use an adjustable spanner than that super expensive fork thing . Does the same job , and you already have one in your toolbox .

Why dont you use a snatch and pull jack? Then you dont have to keep purchasing those rachet pieces. Cool for sure but it kinda makes no sense to me. If you had to tighten the wire up down later down the road, disassemble one side of the terminal post and retighten with a tbar

Dan, Thanks for the great videos. I hope maybe to get some help with tightening m tension bands. I am DIY-ing a dog kennel, 20' x 20'. Only 3 sides are chain link, the 4th side is the skirting under my deck. Anyway, I can't get the tension bands on my terms to clamp down tight. I have squeezed them to no avail. I know they are the right size (2-3/8) because I bought an unopened box of 25. I used a come-along and have good tension on the fabric. Do the bands need to be absolutely tight? Thanks in advance.
@SWiFence
@SWiFence 6 месяцев назад
Glad you enjoy the videos! The brace bands are what matter the most for getting tight. The trap behind that is to ensure that nothing slips, like your top rail. That being said, the tension bands just need to be snug to the tension bar, not death-squeezing the tension bar. Hope this helps.

Don’t need the tool for the strainer. You could just an adjustable wrench.

Can you use standard chain link tension wire with that wire strainer?
@SWiFence
@SWiFence Год назад
It should be fine--depending on how long the run is you might still have to put a stretcher on it still so you don't over-fill the strainer.

Do they lose tension over time?

No. The teeth lock them in. If they did for some reason they're simple enough to add an extra click.

You could use this in tandem with a chain strainer (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JwnPBJLNQnc.html) to get it tight. That's a pretty long run--I'd recommend splitting it halfway with a brace if you can.

To many moving parts. For the fencing we install that is to many moving parts. Just some rebar and your good to go. But not for chain link fence more for field fence with wooden post where you staple the wire in place and you can tighten till the wire breaks.
