I counted about seven from the time Willie shot at the jets: 1.The radar identifying Willie as an "Iraqi fighter jet". 2.The first missle backfiring and hitting the opposite jet. 3.The second missle hitting the jet it was fired from. 4.The argument (as the two are parachuting down) on what a fool's errand it apparently is to give the money to healthcare instead of the military. 5.The parachutes breaking in mid air. 6.The two landing safely in the bushes from what I can assume was a 20,000 foot fall. 7.The two immediately getting into a fist fight upon their landing.
Not Willie. That was a reference to a 1988 incident in which a US Navy cruiser shot down a civilian Iraqi airliner after misidentifying it as a fighter jet showing hostile intentions.
@@sturmovik1274 Nah, its a reference to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1994_Black_Hawk_shootdown_incident They even have it be two F-15s, just like in the incident.
@@sturmovik1274 You're thinking of an Iranian airliner. The Iraqi thing was then a US Blackhawk was misidentified as an Iraqi aircraft and shot down in 1994.
Yeah. Can't say same about the new episodes... Just literally today finished the whole series and I have to say they really can't make funny Simpsons anymore. They lost it around season 10. Just been watching something that's like under 30 minutes when eating my lunch at work lol
Everytime I see a bit like this, it makes me think the storyboarding went something like: plan out a joke, then 6 different writers came up with their own bit, and they find a way to cram them all in in a cohesive way and move on to the next part
"This is what happens when you cut money out of the military and put it into healthcare!" "It's a good program, just give it a chance! That's all I ask!"
I love that they had the pilots land behind a bush I'm assuming cuz the didn't want to fully animate the parachute landing on the ground and the rest of their bodies below the chest haha
0:50 Cutting money that the military DOESN'T need (military leaders themselves have stated that the US military could maintain current strength with about half the current budget) won't suddenly cause reliable, proven systems etc to stop working.
... (small voice) that's not a sidewinder, that's a sparrow. (leaves) In all seriousness, this is probably a dig at a friendly fire incident from April 14, 1994, wherein two F15s (the two fighters correctly depicted here) shot down two US Army Blackhawk helicopters flying over northern Iraq, killing all 26 crewmembers and passengers.
Thank you I thought that was the most subtle part of the joke, that the missile is clearly an AIM-7. It’s a joke that would be gotten by so few, but those who know really appreciate it.
Maybe also a reference to a 1988 incident in which a US Navy cruiser shot down a civilian Iraqi airliner after misidentifying it as a fighter jet showing hostile intentions.
@@sturmovik1274 The original airdate for S6E14 _Bart's Comet_ was February 5, 1995. The Blackhawk shootdown date was April 14, 1994 - nine months and twenty-two days prior, so the whole gag is far more likely to be a reference to the blue-on-blue incident than the 1988 Iran Air Flight 655 fiasco.
I love old simpsons. I think I saw this scene before, but omg I laughed so hard when the fighter jets entered - the whole thing from targeting willie and brawling on the ground
Ironically, the spending on healthcare compared to the military has actually gone UP since this aired. If you completely cut military spending, it wouldn't even come close to balancing the budget. If you completely cut government medical spending, we could start paying off the national debt... and that's WITH military spending approaching one trillion dollars.
@@SerialSnowmanKillerAnd there would be a lot less people to complain about healthcare (because they'd be dead)! And think of the profits for the coffin makers/crematoriums!
@@outis-aka-nobody1064 I'm just saying that military spending is, at most, a FACTOR in our ginormous national debt, not the whole reason. People complaining that we can't afford healthcare because of our military spending don't realize that we spend more than twice as much on healthcare as on the military... and that's not even counting the other kinds of federal welfare we have. The problem isn't money. If money was all it took to solve this country's healthcare problems, they would already be solved. The problem is that the government is too incompetent and corrupt to actually solve the underlying issues; it just perpetuates them and then demands more money to fix the problems it can't solve and has no interest in solving because solving them would put them out of business.
Just the fuckin chances that 2 fighter jets are flying by as Willie starts shooting......"Iraqi's again...." I've seen this episode a hundred times and I'm still in tears laughing at it right now😂
did you know, you could strip every penny from the military budget and not even scratch how much money is required for health and welfare services? biggest military in the world!
An extra, subtle joke is that the AIM-9 Sidewinder missile is air-to-air and not air-to-ground, as though he intended to shoot his wingman and them himself.
SIMPSONS REALLY DID IT AGAIN WTF!!! Everything was accurate down to the people throwing things meme, people shooting at it (or taking pictures with it in their sights on fb) and the two jets with sidewinder missiles. Wtf!!
You need to study the New World Order to see what is going on they did not predict anything. Every event is planned out a long time ago. Study the illuminati cards that came out in 1994. On this cards it shows what is to come in the future. The illuminati is a real society and satan is decieving them. This group is why the world is so messed up today....pls look into this
